Calinda Media Presents: Trident Review: Star Wars the Force Awakens

JJ Abrams once again demonstrates his ability to reinvigorate our beloved childhood franchised and make movies fun again! Star Wars 7 is certainly not perfect, but it comes quite close.

The film opens with a bang and never really lets up (maybe once and you’ll know when) but this is good thing! Within’ the first twenty minutes we are treated to a thrilling storm-trooper raid, introduced to our new villain (and he’s pretty bad-ass) and root while our young new protagonists are taking center stage.

Rey & Finn have amazing chemistry together and it is a joy to watch as they traverse our favorite science-fiction universe. My only gripe is that the plot takes almost no risks and is essentially a re-hash of the first flick. Once again a big-ass laser tootin’ Death Star Star-Killer base threatens peace in the galaxy and must be destroyed.

Not to spoil anything here, but at some point someone is probably going to need to use the force..

Verdict: Go see it. See it NOW

Calinda Media Presents - Trident Review:  “Another Earth”

Another Earth is as magnificent as the interplanetary views it offers. This is smart film-making people, like dat good sh*t you can watch on the flight back from that bender in Miami you won't ever be telling your girlfriend about EVER.

As the title implies there is a second mirror of our little blue bombshell within seemingly reachable distance and our main character is staring at it, well.. just all the time. Her eyes are blue, the planet is blue.. The point is, this movie is crammed packed with ideas from great philosophers like Plato and Nietzsche plus some truly remarkable cinematography by Mike Cahill. I highly recommend smoking marijuana before watching this film as well. You'll be says "whoa" over and over..

Verdict: Blondes have more fun

2016 is already looking like the year of the nerds with Batman v Superman, X-men Apocalypse and Captain America Civil War soon to hit movie theaters nation wide. Now there’s a new kid on the block (a weird kid, the kind that eats lunch alone and for good reason) in the form of Suicide Squad. The recent release of the trailer introduces us to a super hero team full of freaks not seen since Mystery Men. Still getting used to Will Smith rocking a Rick Ross beard, but we’re sure it’ll be fine in the end.

Yup, it’s the Fresh Prince, but with a machine gun. Yes please!

The rest of the team is full of freaks including a guy who can shoot fire from his hands, a crocodile dude, a witch of some kind and of course the Jokers long time main squeeze Harley Quinn!

Speaking of the devil himself, one of the biggest things to look forward to in Suicide Squad is the appearance of the Joker who seems just as deranged as ever!

Let’s not forget this machine gun wielding panda because f*ck it why not. In any case, this movie looks dope and we can’t wait to see all the action! Checkout the trailer and see for yourself!

Calinda Media Presents: Trident Review: Donald Glover - "Weirdo" (Standup Comedy)

From being a minority at a Kanye West concert to using racial slurs in sign language, rapper, actor and comedian Donald Glover pulls no punches in this raunchy standup act. Mr Glover warns the audience from the start that this is no “community”, I agree. This is much better.

Creating a quirky persona something like part rich kid part nerdy black hipster-dude, O'l Childish Gambino (his rapper name which he acquired via Wu-Tang name generator) keeps the laughs coming a mile a minute. He even acknowledges his new hip hop endeavors in a bit that pokes fun at old school hip hop that is easily worth the entire hour.

Throw in some midget Klu Klux Klansmen, a hilarious encounter with a hobo and a childhood tale of a trip to Home Depot in which shit (literally) goes down and you got a recipe for gut-busting laughter.

Verdict: (Jay Z voice) THAT boy good!!

Lex Luther brings Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne together at a fancy gathering. *Note the height difference between the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel!

One of the many exciting things to look forward to is all the Bat gear! New Bat-suit, Batarangs, Amour and let’s not forget the Bat-jet! Pretty cool!

It looks like Zack Snyder has finessed the comic book style visual aesthetic he pioneered for the film “300″ and later “Watchmen”. Both of those films where also inspired by graphic novels.

Fans of the two larger than life superheroes (Yes, yes, Batman has no powers WE KNOW!!) have been waiting for this epic smack-down for decades and it looks like in 2016 we’ll finally get to see it go down and then some!

What is happening in this scene!? There appears to be aliens and dudes with guns rocking the superman logo?? Who knows!? Batman can probably handle it though. Hopefully he doesn’t have to snap any necks..

Batman punching Superman in the face isn’t the only thing to look forward in this extravaganza. There’s an additional villain and a slew of surprise guests in store. Stay tuned!

Calinda Media Presents - Trident Review: “Focus”

Can you keep focused while a smoking hot blonde stares you in the eyes suggesting an incredible "hump" to come? I probably couldn't. Then again, I'm not Will Smith.

You probably aren't Will Smith either which makes watching him portray con man Nicky Spurgeon so entertaining. He's smart, rich and knows exactly what to say to ANYONE to get them to trust him. That's when he works his magic, ripping off people for their goods. Watches, cash and even millions of dollars. The film (which is beautiful to watch thanks to cinematographer Xavier Grobet) plays out like a CQ magazine inspired wet dream.. And without all the sticky mess! (Some sticky mess may occur though because this movie is fucking beautiful)

Verdict: "Bel Air Rose"

Calinda Media Presents - Trident Review: “Mission Impossible Rouge Nation”

Mission Impossible Rouge Nation is the equivalent to eating a juicy steak while sprinting. Alot is going on, but you never really stop to enjoy it. At the end of the day though, steak is steak and from the sight of the bad robot company logo it's on like Donkey Kong.

The super-cool hanging off the plane thing we saw in the trailers is gone in a flash before the movie dives (feet first) into a story-line that I honestly can't recall. What I do remember is gorgeous cinematography punctuated by blazing action. In some cases Ethan Hunt (portrayed by the still impressive Tom Cruise) makes 007 look pussy by comparison. Also noteworthy is the choreography both in the fight scenes and chases. Add to that a slew of sleek technology and vehicles and you might as well be eating that steak off fine china while you jog.

With both the Pope St Francis and President Obama visiting NYC today (9/25/15) I cannot help but picture o'l Ethan Hunt pulling some death defying stunt to save the day from some cyber/spy/terrorist/blogger looking muthafuckahs.

Verdict: Crazy Good Fun

Calinda Media Presents Trident Review: "Terminator Genysis"

Holy shit-balls-fuck! Ok, now that that happened let's dish. Basically this the terminator movie every fanboy/girl has been waiting for. None of that character development malarkey. Nah son, just literally every terminator ever, fighting every other terminator ever, for the entire run-time.

Supporting players include a WAY hotter/younger Sarah Conner (thanks Hollywood, you pigs you) and a host of unforgettable dudes who seem about as real as the robots they're fighting WHICH IS TOTALLY THE POINT. Yea, this movie was da bomb!

Verdict: All hail Skynet!
