> #wait are labubu's blind bags?!
Labubus are blind bags but they're also blind bags with some of the most insane dark patterns stacked on top. The online store for them has a thing where they tell you what you got the second you order it online so that you can immediately try again if you didn't get the thing you wanted.
There's also a shake feature that is designed to encourage you to buy more than one by narrowing down the possibility space on a crate of options so that if you're hunting a specific model you can verify that it's guaranteed to be in one of these three IF you buy all three right now!!!!!
You can read more about what dark patterns are and how to spot them here.
The original website about deceptive patterns (also known as âdark patternsâ) - tricks used in websites and apps that make you do things tha
That is a fucking awesome site everyone should visit. Don't skip the Hall of Shame.
I just thought of this post, which was actually how I learned what Dark Patterns are, because I tried to cancel my Adobe Acrobat subscription, and it took much longer than I anticipated because several times throughout the process it felt like it was intentionally trying to trick me into thinking I'd cancelled my subscription when I actually hadn't yet.
Please read up on Dark Patterns and learn how to recognize them.
âWe chose the term âasexualâ to describe ourselves because both âcelibateâ and âanti-sexualâ have connotations we wished to avoid: the first implies that one has sacrificed sexuality for some higher good, the second that sexuality is degrading or somehow inherently bad. âAsexualâ, as we use it, does not mean âwithout sexâ but ârelating sexually to no oneâ. This does not, of course, exclude masturbation but implies that if one has sexual feelings they do not require another person for their expression. Asexuality is, simply, self-contained sexuality.â
â The Asexual Manifesto, Lisa Orlando and Barbara Getz, 1972
Note the date, people:
Thatâs 1972
29 years before AVEN was started online,
and 47 years before the present.
And thatâs only the date that Manifesto was written, so asexuals as members of a community must have existed at least some time before that.
So, no: we are not just Tumblr trenders. Get out of here with that.
supporting my asexual friends and foes by rebbloging this
Itâs 50 years this month since the first version of the Asexual Manifesto was written. Aces have been writing about our experiences under this name for at least half a century. We are not an internet fad.

"Don't speak ill of the dead" my ass. If you didn't want people talking shit about you when you're no longer there to defend yourself, you should've been a better person.
I always took it to mean, like, don't bitch about Mrs. Obnoxious in front of her grieving children, not 'you can't say anything bad about a dead person ever' but let me tell you some people really do seem to take the latter approach and it's EXHAUSTING. "don't speak ill of the dead" are Ronald Reagan's descendants in this room right now?
Oh wow it's almost like being vulnerable with the people you love is a *good* thing
Thereâs actually a few things here that majorly dropped childhood mortality. In no particular order these includeâŚ
Vaccines (yay!)
Pasteurization
Implementing and enforcing food quality and sanitation standards. Did you know White Castle was called as such because their gimmic was that they continually cleaned and bleached their stores inside and out to prevent food poisoning.
The invention of antibiotics! The first sulfa drugs dropped in the 1930s-40s
Widespread access and distribution of enriched food products! Enriched flour did a lot to prevent malnutrition, and itâs how Wonderbread got its name!
We got a hell of a lot better with medical care for sick and premature infants. The first incubators for premature babies were actually used as something of a sideshow attraction at Coney Island! It was the only way the doctor who invented them could get funding to keep them running because no one thought it would work. It showed a lot of people that really premature babies could survive with the right treatment and eventually was adopted by hospitals.
The green revolution in agriculture that prevented around a billion people from starving to death
More recently itâs been widespread access to mosquito nets and medication to poorer and rural areas
Reblogs in a chain now get their own notes
The reblog chain is one of the things that makes Tumblr unlike anywhere else. All the notes on reblogs are attributed to the original post, no matter which branch people actually liked or reblogged. We want to keep encouraging conversations, and give contributors the recognition they deserve.Â
Soon, you'll be able to like, reblog, or reply to any part of a reblog chain, and that note will go to that reblog's author. Each reblog will have its own counts, instead of one aggregated number from every version of the post. And yes, youâll be able to like multiple posts in one chain.
If a reblog doesn't add anything, the love flows up to the last person in the chain who did. Your post doesn't lose notes just because people spread it quietly.
Past notes will stay on the original post â we're only changing what happens from here on out. Retroactively re-attributing all of them would be... a lot.
This is just the beginning. More changes are coming as we keep building this out â stay tuned!
tossing in my two cents, the site's format literally does not support this at all. not in the sense of "this is a ui issue that can be resolved in some years time" but in the sense that the basic functions of this site will not work if you do this
while I can see how you would come up with this idea, it should have died the first time someone tried to operate their dashboard in testing. consider what it looks like when someone opens a post and sees no replies, and now consider that the majority of posts will look like this
because of how this displays, every new user will assume the site is dead and leave
If you hate this, as you should, dont forget to send your feedback here: https://www.tumblr.com/support
lol they're rolling this out as we speak.
this post had like 3000 comments and 15k reblogs with people yelling about how they hate the change, but on my reblog of it it now looks like this:
and you cant see the thousands of other reblogs. i guess this really facilitates conversation somehow??? what a bizarre change.
and now even on the OP by @tumblr itself it looks like this:
while in reality the post has like 25k notes? so it just makes every post seem like it has an absolute tiny fraction of the actual engagement that it has! what the fuck.
edit: and of course now i reblogged it again it looks like it has no notes at all!
as it looks now you'll have to go to the original post, and then click through every single comment thread from there by hand if you would like to see what other people have added in response to the earlier post and the replies following that.
it really is interesting how most adults really only see child sexual assault through the lens of how it makes THEM feel. it's not really about the actual harm that comes to the children, it's about how they, the adult (the real victim) feels about the fact that a child or children got abused and taken advantage of.
like one time I saw a vid of some dudes who tricked some guys into thinking they were going to meet up with minors, instead they forced the two dudes to fight on camera. it's voyeurism, it's not about protecting children it's about the good feeling YOU, the viewer, get inside when you watch this happen.
or like I was arguing with some people about CSA being punishable by death. i don't care if child abusers die, let me say that. wouldn't care if they all killed themselves to a person. but there is a REASON child advocacy organizations will tell you that executing convicted pedophiles is a bad idea, and that's because it will lead to more children being killed to hide the crimes of the abuser.
But if you argue against THE STATE executing pedophiles, people start pulling the "ohhhh wow defending pedophiles. this the hill you wanna die on?" like no dude I just think about the effects of policy outside of the fucking feel-good yummies in my tummy I get from seeing someone I don't like punished.
I know this is a deeply American thing to say but I am begging everyone to stay the fuck away from military recruiters. Especially high school kids. You are going to be seeing an unholy amount of them in schools or around schools or literally anywhere kids are known to congregate. THIS INCLUDES ALL FORMS OF ROTC. Stay the fuck away from military recruiters. As someone whoâs familiar with entirely too many branches through entirely too many friends and family, including my partner, recruiters are authorized to say literally any fucking thing they think will make you sign on that line. They cannot and will not deliver on those promises. They need bodies for the war theyâre pretending is only now starting up again. Thatâs all you are. A body. Stay the FUCK away from the military.
nazis made it illegal for Jewish people to drive before they began sending them to concentration camps. and let me remind you, people in the US are already being sent to worryingly concentration camp-esque places. the holocaust didn't just happen at the push of a button. Jewish people didn't dissappear overnight. fascism takes over slowly, and takes more and more rights from more and more people as it progresses.
and they do not, and will not, stop.
I need to set the record straight for queer people who donât have a transphobic government holding their birth certificate hostage.
In the United States the average native-born citizen can prove their definitive citizenship in terms of eligibility for work through either a birth certificate or a passport. Birth certificates are legally owned and issued by the government of the state you are born in.
I was born in Texas. Texas has banned trans people from changing our birth certificates to match our name and gender. Texas will put me on a list if I reveal I am trans in any legal way, including having ever applied to change my gender marker. I cannot change my birth certificate.
This means the only way I can prove my eligibility for work is with my passport. Without my passport, I canât legally apply for work.
That is why the executive order banning trans people from changing our passports to match our gender identity is such a huge problem. Itâs not boo hoo I canât leave the country to go on vacation, itâs stripping me of my labor rights and daring me to work in a sweat shop if I want to survive.
And say I did want to cross the border because oh, I donât know, fleeing to seek asylum in a new country suddenly becomes very importantâwouldnât it be a good idea to have a passport that matches my identification to show local authorities, so they donât deport me back to America?
I know not everyone can read legalese, but I need the LGBT community to at least try to stay up to date and connect the dots on the legal ramifications of orders like this if we are going to fight back. Because frankly, my passport was recently threatened, and I was not impressed by the ignorance I was met with from cis gays and trans folks who hail from the east/west coast.
Actually materially help trans people in hostile territory by donating here
