Iâm curious, how does the yandere âclaimingâ a darling thing work? Do they just kidnap them, or is there a whole legal process that occurs with it too? Whatâs preventing a parental yandere from simply âclaimingâ their darling child to protect them from other yanderes? Or is it different when it comes to platonic/familial cases?
The idea of claiming a darling in the yandereverse works similarly to how marking works in the omegaverse.Â
For romantic yanderes, the process is.

Marking a darling signifies a yandere marking their ownership on a darling. This is done in multiple ways, and is dependent on the favored method of the yandere.Â
For magicless yanderes, they either mark in one of two ways. Those who want to see their marks of possession on their darlings and those who prefer not to. Magicless yanderes have a harder time because magic makes things much easier to mark, but tattoos and special collars are the most common.Â
Magical yanderes use marks made of or connected with magic. There are rituals that leave marks that can identify the magical signature of the yandere. The magic prevents other yanderes from marking them, and can only be removed by the yanderes.
Beastmen and merfolk yanderes use bite marks usually on the back of the neck or on the ring finger.Â
Fae traditionally use treasures, enchanted ( cough* cursed *cough) necklaces and rings that canât come off no matter how much the darling pulls, yanks or tugs. All enchanted with magic and seals to identify the yandere that marked them.

Relocating darlings is done after theyâve been marked. Often very quickly. Jealousy tends to take over in yanderes and the potential threat of other rivals and the dangers of the outside world makes them want to keep darlings all to themselves and far from all others.Â
Itâs traditionally done by kidnapping. Yanderes prepare rooms perfect for captivity made of soft things and warmth to warm up the unwilling. Alongside the comforts the shackles that bind and constrict against the will of the darling.Â
In places like the Coral Sea and the Sunset Savannah, darlings can get kidnapped in the night and no one bats an eyelash.
In the Queendom of Roses, the Shaftlands and Scalding Sands, yanderes need to document the darling being rehomed because of their protection laws. The wealthy expedite the process, but bureaucracy's a bitch so it can take weeks in certain places.Â
Some places just donât follow it altogether, old fashioned, small towns like Harveston donât really waste their time with this stuff and just skip it altogether. The only time they ever bother is if government officials are summoned.Â
The Isle of Woe considers it one of the most necessary steps. After all, the outside world is incredibly dangerous for darlings, and unless itâs deemed necessary by the Jupiter Corporation, itâs never documented.
The Briar Valley doesnât do Relocation until after the Engagement part, mostly because the engagement ritual is necessary before their relocation.Â
Engagement starts the claiming process being finalized.
The binding spells are replaced with a permanent ritual, meant to bind the yandere(s) and the darling together till death do them part in preparation for the matrimony stage.Â
The most common spell used by magic users is the Lure and Bind Ritual. Which ties a, nearly, unbreakable bond between the darling and the yandere. This bond can only be severed by the yandere themselves or a more powerful mage. Unlike the marking spells, this one leaves no mark, and the caster can only be picked up by a special spell.Â
The Isle of Woe, more specifically the Shroud family, saves the permanence spell for the Matrimony stage.Â
But this stage can has its own unique events and stages.Â
For example, the test of worth.Â
Once a yandere has marked their darling as their own, showed that they are capable of the homing of their darling to show that they are able to keep them comfortably without harming them, a yandere must prove their love through rituals. In order to prove their love, they must perform the tests of the rituals with the threat of dispelling the claim if the yandere fails.Â
While they have fallen out of practice for most of the more modernized nations, many like to take the risk to prove the strength of their love.Â
For some rituals the consequence of losing a darling has been erased, and now theyâre a common activity for engagement parties to prove love.
The Queendomâs favored ritual is âThe Mad Trial of Devotionâ. Out of all of them itâs surprisingly the least dangerous ritual, given the Queendomâs history. Itâs set up like one of the Queenâs mad trials. Promises of commitment, interrogations on how well the yandere knows the darling, a âdanceâ where the party guests fight the yandere as âsuitorsâ, and at the end the darling and their yandere are crowned, and the celebrations continue. Itâs all in good fun.Â
The area in the Shaftlands once governed by the Kingdom of Ivoria (Snow White) has the âThe Ritual of the Enchanted Heartâ performed under moonlight in a scenic forest. The ritual is full of magic just like the original tale. The three-part ritual requires a test of honesty, devotion, and loyalty. Itâs slightly more dangerous, because the test of devotion requires a poisoned apple to make the yandere feel agony in order to prove their unyielding devotion. Similarly, itâs a common engagement party ritual, but itâs often done privately with only close friends and family present.Â
The Scalding Sands celebrate with opulent engagement parties, but it is separate from their ritual, known as âThe Cave of Devotionâ. The yanderes enter a magical cave and face three challenges all of which tempt their jealousy, fears and then their desires. After completing all the trials, they receive a magical stone meant to tie the wearer to the yandere eternally. It often happens before the actual engagement ceremony, because the stone becomes the darlingâs wedding ring.
Other places treat the rituals with the utmost importance, and they need to be done in order to progress to the next stage to Matrimony.
The Sunset Savannah and the Coral Sea has a ritual known as âThe Huntâ where the darling is given the chance to escape, given food and water etc, and her yandere has a week to retrieve them by themselves or they have to relinquish the mark and claim. The darling is given a fair chance to escape and is allowed to pick the terrain they want to escape through. Wealthier families get to give the darlings the choice of multiple terrains and environments to escape into. Poorer families use the environment they live in. Regardless, the darling is given a fair chance to escape, but it's likely they won't.
The Isle of Woe wouldnât have a ritual if the Jupiter Corporation hadnât had a say in it. Each family apart of the group has a ritual different depending on their godly ancestry. They are done in the presence of relatives. âThe Pledge of the Underworldâ is the Shroud familyâs. First the yandere vows to face any and all trials in the name of their love before descending into darkness where they must challenge a powerful fear of theirs to prove their love. A blood oath is performed to mark the completion of the ritual and the darling is fed three months of the year worth of pomegranate. And those three months will mark the date of the coming matrimony and honeymoon period. (the other nine months are eaten during the wedding ceremony)
The Briar Valley has â The Three Giftsâ Ritual, to prove their worth as a partner to their darling, the darling picks out âtasksâ for the yandere to complete to receive their hands in marriage. These three tasks can range in difficulty and impossibility, but all three must be complete in order for the yandere to earn the hand of the darling, or else they lose their claim.Â
(Warning: Self harm) Fleur City has surprisingly, considering the relaxed rituals of the Shaftlands, has a very high stakes ritual. Known as âThe Vow of Eternal Vigilâ, the yandere must prove the sanctity of their love in comparison to the filthy world, by trial by fire through burning themselves (to cleanse), an oath and offering of self (to show sincerity) and finally a mark of devotion, done through branding (to permanently and visible show the completion of their vow).Â
The Matrimony stage is just a celebration of the union being completed. Simply, it's the wedding. Friends and family give gifts and blessings, drinks and dinner etc. After that the claim has been permanently cemented and death will become the only thing that can separate it.Â
Platonic (Parental) Claiming is a little similar.Â
The process goes:
Claiming (mostly the same but the temporary marks are magical, non-invasive and easily removable)
Relocation (done for their protection)
Adoption
The adoption part is the bureaucracy part. After theyâve been found and protected, and the yandere has proven that theyâre able to take care of them, then all thatâs left is paperwork to assign the yandere as their legal guardian.Â
Regarding, platonic yanderes using claiming to protect a darling from their romantic yanderes. Itâs common that a platonic yandere will relocate to intervene with the romantic yandereâs claiming process. After all, you canât claim a darling if you canât find them.
