After the recent incident involving a certain tumblr user and her getting bullied for petty shit by the SU fandom, and cosplayers that spat in a fucking bucket, I thought hey why not make a blog about shit fandoms that do such as above. Please keep in mind this blog will possibly be just submission based. If anything is to be posted by me is will have "mod d" credited at the bottom or in the tags. Please read the "questions" page for any concerns you have. Also read the "what this blog needs/wants" for what could be submitted. (although you probably won't have to do that because i'll pretty much accept anything)

Important Reminder:

All of these “artistic freedom” arguments sound just like when people try saying “freedom of speech” to cover up their ignorance. Just because you have the “freedom”, that doesn’t give you a platform to practice racism, homophobia, transphobia, fatphobia, thinphobia, or pedophilia without consequences. Yes, call-out culture is bad. Bullying is absolutely horrible, and a lot of people don’t understand where the limit is, but to rebel against it by producing work in attempts to “battle” bullying isn’t the proper manner, nor is it effective. It’s causing more frustration and it DOESN’T make your art any less wrong. Identity erasure is a serious issue and there’s no wonder why people get incredibly angry when they see a character that FINALLY breaks traditional roles and stereotypes being forced right back into them. You’re not “making a statement”. You’re not even defending the girl who tried to harm herself. You’re missing the entire point. The issue wasn’t with “artistic freedom”, it was with bullying. If you really want to defend and stand up for her, try taking a stand against bullies and mobs made for hate, not perpetuating hate through images that are harmful and offensive.

What I mean is, just because the crewniverse is okay with people changing up  the show, not every media creator is okay with it.

I was basically saying,

“If the creator(s) of a certain media doesn’t care or won’t see it, of course it doesn’t matter, draw what you want!

However if you wanted to do something like make fanart of some random person’s black human OC and want to whitewash it, please think it through and see if the creator is okay with it first because its probably a character that’s dear to their hearts or w/e.”

The crewniverse does not control every artist’s opinion/view. Just because they’re okay with a certain thing doesn’t mean everyone else is???

I am NOT trying to tell people they can’t draw whatever they want because honestly, its physically impossible for me to stop them. I’m basically just saying at least be considerate/nice.

its just that ever since the crewniverse said they were okay with character changes, i’ve been scared that people will take that too far (because let’s be honest there will be that one asshole that does). 

i’m just scared that one day some person will take one of my black OCs that i love so much/identify with and whitewash him because they don’t like him having black skin or how he looks. and their excuse will be “BUT THE CREWNIVERSE SAID IT WAS OKAY SO I CAN DO WHATEVER I WANT!!1!”

I agree, it’s one thing to draw Rose skinny, especially now that it represents a stand against the hate blogs and support for Zamii and all victims of their abuse

It’s an entirely different thing to make changes to someone’s OC, and you should be asking the Creator’s permission just to draw it

People tend to put a lot of work into them and it could hurt them on a personal level to do change defining characteristics

i hope zamii gets better, i wasn’t a big fan of her (and the fact there’re people who’re trying to force you to like her irritates me) but honestly she wasn’t even as bad as people make her seem. ppl need to just shut up, let her heal, and move on with their own lives b/c that’s what i’m doing and it’s working pretty well.

What in the world are you going on about?

OP’s warning was not to apply the logic Crewniverse apply to their show to all media. OP is warning fans not to assume that just because the SU creators are okay with character designs being manipulated doesn’t mean every creator would be okay with that.

Literally nothing in OP’s post was entitled, nor was their any attempt to police a person’s creativity or work - it was purely a warning.

I, for one, would not appreciate people editing my characters to suit their own tastes. If people were drawing fanart of a webcomic I wrote and illustrated, but were, say, white-washing characters, or making their features more “conventionally attractive”, I would be very annoyed and request they not do that.

Meanwhile, the Crewinverse is okay with people messing around with character designs.

Of course I think people should be free to draw what they want, i was just saying they should THINK before drawing certain fanarts, especially if its fanart for an individual person.
