“That’s a relief. I haven’t been in a fight in a long time, and I’d like to keep it that way.”
"I do not fight people unless I have to anymore.” It’s part of her declaring her freedom. “You will find no threat from me.”
wolviiejr:
“… Okay…?”
"That is what people approach me for.” Antonia explains. “To test their skills.” It’s not anything that she wants.
hellfirepriest:
“I see your sense of self preservation is intact.”
"I was trained to be a winner.” Her father had properly equipped her to make sure that was always true. “Winning is self-preservation.”
falsecap:
“well that’s news to me,” john shook his head. there was nothing he dreaded more than working with some of the russian thunderbolts. key word some. yelena was on thin ice.
“oh, do i now?”
“Do you think that you are better than me?” She glances over at him. He’s not. John Waker is a sniveling rag of a man. “Yes. How do you not realize that? Your mouth is always moving.” Not as bad as Red Guardian, but still. It’s more than Antonia.
destroyrofworlds:
Antonia Dreykov. Daisy knew of the former Red Room commander, it was hard not to given the notoriety. It made her sad to see the choice of job Hill selected for her Pleasant Hill persona, and guilt swirled in her gut as she uncrossed her arms and let her face soften at the other woman. “How are.. How are you holding up?” There was a pause as the Inhuman just shook her head. “I mean, I know the answer to that— But you know.”
There’s a long moment of silence. For most of her life, no one asked Antonia if she was okay. She simply existed; the Taskmaster would complete hit after hit with no complaints or failures permitted. Those years of silence have left her ill equipped when it comes to answering questions such as these. “I am...” Angry? Sad? Both. “Accustomed to being disappointed.” She finally says, surprising herself. Most of her life hasn’t been her own. Maybe she’s a fool for beginning to believe it could be otherwise.
pquills:
“good to know, good to know. so um – what are you going to do?”
“Sit here.” She remains stationary in her chair. “I just want to sit here.”
draxtheliteraldestroyer:
“No. I’m Drax the Destroyer. Wise is a dumb name.”
“Who are you?” She also needs to know what he is. Other than annoying, that is.
barneswinters:
The thought of his anything being indexed in any Russian databases made Bucky’s skin crawl, but he stood there anyways as he offered up a challenging shrug towards Antonia. She was arguably the teammate he felt the least attached to, and while he didn’t strive to be close with most of the Thunderbolts, it felt like he had an obligation to at least be friendly. “Humor me, then? Val’s alloted us two hours for training, and I really don’t feel like talking to her again.”
Antonia nods once. She doesn’t want to talk to Valentina either. It’s strange to be gearing up to fight but out of her suit. For a long time, she had almost lived in it exclusively. Without it, she feels naked and unequipped. “Shield or no shield?” Her chin juts towards the orange and blue disc that sits with her gloves and weapons. Both are trained in how to use it, so it won’t tilt the fight very much.
draxtheliteraldestroyer:
“You smell foul. Is that so that predators will think you are dying and diseased so they won’t eat you. That is very wise.”
Antonia knows what burning flesh smells like. After that, she doesn’t think she’ll ever smell anything worse. Whatever he’s going on about is not as bad as her own singed skin. The assassin blinks once, face blank under her helmet. “You are not wise.”
barneswinters:
Shoving himself up from the bench in the Thunderbolts training room, Bucky just grumbled softly in response to that as he raised his brows. “Isn’t that the whole point of us being in here?” He could already imagine Val’s nagging if she found out they skipped out on their training.
“Fighting you would be as useful to me as fighting Yelena or Natasha.” The words are stilted. Her English isn’t great after spending so many years not speaking. Even in Russian she falters. “Your fighting style has already been indexed in the Taskmaster Protocols. I can do what you do but better.”
falsecap:
“–– i don’t care what your clearance level is, as of right now, my missions are classified.”
“We have the same clearance.” The words are quiet and accented. Antonia and Walker have been paired up on assignment, unfortunately. The Russian killing machine and the disgraced star spangled man. There’s surely supposed to be irony here on Valentina’s part, but Antonia isn’t amused. “Also, you talk too much.”
destroyrofworlds:
“Hill’s been taken care of.” When Daisy realized how final that sounded, she raised her eyebrows and quickly backtracked. “She’s not dead, though. Just on a mandatory medical leave.”
The burns have returned to her face now that Pleasant Hill has been erased from her physical form. There’s a tightness to her skin that she’s long gotten used to but had forgotten about. It had been years before that she had asked Nat is he gone? in regards to her father. She feels as if she’s back at that moment, only it’s not Dreykov whose hurt her. It’s Maria Hill. Antonia makes a noise in the back of her throat, head nodding slightly. “I am glad to hear.”
ex-odus:
“A wise decision. You would lose.”
“I do not often lose.” Antonia does end up in stalemates quite often, though. She can use what she has for each individual fighter but then combines it with the others who are indexed. It’s supposed to make her a superior combatant. That’s all physical. If he’s a mutant with powers, she’s screwed. “In this case, I would not like to find out.”

← ONCE THERE WAS AN IDEA TO BRING TOGETHER →
For the first time since she was a child, Antonia is free. The chip is no longer controlling her actions and stripping her of free will; that being said, she’s still spent years performing under the Taskmaster Protocols and has a honed skillset. It’s made Antonia of interest to a number of groups, and the United States government got her to sign onto their Thunderbolts roster after they agreed to waive all of her international crimes. The Thunderbolts doesn’t seem like a forever deal, though. It’s learning how to be a team player after years of being alone. It’s about getting her feet underneath her as she figures out who she is for the first time since she was a small child. Right now, it’s what she needs. She’ll reassess tomorrow.
← A GROUP OF REMARKABLE PEOPLE TO SEE IF THEY →
✗ NATASHA ROMANOFF (MCU) is the reason everything happened to Antonia. She’s the one who completed the assassination attempt that resulted in Antonia’s scars and forced participation in the Taskmaster Protocols. She’s the one who did it all… but she’s also the one who saved Antonia in the end. Then, she died. The two never grew close and Antonia is working on letting go of her resentment and rage over the years she lost. Natasha saved her in the end. She’s still a hero no matter the hurt she caused Dreykov’s Daughter.
✗ YELENA BELOVA (MCU) joined the Thunderbolts alongside Antonia. Both women were hurt and used by Dreykov for a long time and will always have that shared trauma in common. That being said, they’re not technically friends. Antonia doesn’t actually know how to made any after the years of subjugation and manipulation. What they have instead is kinship, and that’s enough right now.
← COULD BECOME SOMETHING MORE →
✗ THE THUNDERBOLTS– It wasn’t a surprise when they came to recruit Antonia considering her skill set. She technically has international crimes on her record even though she never willingly committed them, but the government agreed to waive them and seal her file if she joined the team. It felt a little like blackmail, but it was Antonia’s choice. She’s had very few of them in her adult life and made the decision to sign on as a step towards independence. There are some days it feels more like a trap, though, and she’ll quit if need be. Right now, she’s interested in doing something that’s hopefully good after being forced to do bad for so long.
✗ OTHER AFFILIATIONS– formerly the red room.
