walker offered up a hand for him to shake, “john walker, at your service. formerly captain america,” the words still stung.

“never claimed to be, pal,” walker straightened up, posture rigid despite the casual grin on his face, “although, i suppose now you could call me a thunderbolt if you really wanna get that title correct.”

walker crossed his arms, “oh well, she can take credit for that one.” he let out an amused exhale and shook his head, “hey, don’t you have more important things to be doing than pleasant hill checkup?”

“well that’s news to me,” john shook his head. there was nothing he dreaded more than working with some of the russian thunderbolts. key word some. yelena was on thin ice.

The snarky question probably wouldn’t have bothered Matt that much on a normal night, but this was different. He was asking about Elektra. The same Elektra that supposedly died that night with him under that rubble. Who brought out, at most times, the worst in him. Violence it was then. Gripping the other man’s arm, Matt used his other hand to pull out a truncheon as he slammed it against Walker’s kneecap. Not hard enough to shatter it, but jarring enough to force him onto his knees as he twisted his arm. “Let me ask an easier question, then. Why is Fontaine so worked up about S.H.I.E.L.D.?

walker went down with the hit, face contorted in pain as the man in the suit wrenched his arm back, “fuck! jesus christ, man –– you must be seriously out of the loop.” it was early enough, maybe the news hadn’t completely traveled through all the right channels yet. walker’s hospital bracelet still hung loosely from his wrist, “– if she’s not recovered by now, i don’t know what to tell you. we might all be fucked.”
