Anyway I think this video adds to my feeling that Showgirl is at its heart a project about authenticity and joy in spite of those who would seek to judge your joy as "cringe"

If you're still one of us, this message is for you.
carol's parents loved her because she was their child, the simple obligation of blood relation. but they didn't like her as she was, they viewed her (as so many parents do their children) as something they owned and thus were entitled to try to fix and change until she was something easier for them to stomach.
similarly, the hive's love for carol is of a biological imperative. they love her simply because they can't help it. it is an instinct, it's what they were made to do. it's unconditional in its worst form. unchanging, unevolving. and they want to fix her too, don't care what she really wants because they've decided they know best.
helen made a choice, to love carol. she kept making that choice for 20+ years, even when it wasn't easy. she didn't intend to fix carol, but she wanted to help her, to push her to be better, because that's what a good relationship is. and she knew how to do that, how to stop her from going too far, from hurting herself. she didn't claim there was something wrong with carol, and certainly not that she was the solution, but she wasn't enabling her either.
manousos, too, is making a choice. to cross a continent and risk his life to meet her. to not leave when it isn't easy, to stick around for her so she can eventually choose him too.
love is a choice. and choice can be difficult. but love without choice is unsustainable.
Imagine being an alcoholic and youāre surrounded by people who will give you everything you want forever and call it love. No matter how selfish or inconvenient or stupid. They have your wifeās memories but they canāt be her. Your wife wouldnāt love you like this.
Love is a breathalyzer in your car.
Over a decade later and Vince Gilligan is still calling out his misogynist fans that worship Walter but hate Skyler. And now Carol too.

Pluribus is like what if a woman was in the most deadly, isolating, predatory, abusive relationship in history- but her abuser was infinitely charismatic, beneficial to others, and SHE was a curmudgeonly, lonely, asocial person.
Could you still identify that she is the victim here? Or could the charismatic predator (who tries to lull her into a sense of lustful security with the smiling body of a corpse)(who controls her interaction with others, her access to food, and the safety of her home)(who kills 11 million hostages any time she gets angry at them)(who intends openly to consume/kill her) convince you that actually she's the bad guy. Because she's too mean to them.
Especially potent that the creators know they're talking to breaking bad fans - who were able to see skylar white as a whiny bitch when her murderous husband sexually assaulted her in like season one and then continued getting worse.
Itās not until I get to the end of the album that it hits me. This is the first time ever I havenāt heard Taylor Swift wonder if sheās enough. Not on a single song. Sheās not dreaming of running away, hatching escape plans or making herself small. Twisting herself into knots, worried about being seen not as something shiny and new but as a woman, when the lights go down. She isnāt worried about news cycles or legacy or ageing out. She knows who she is ā the motherfucking showgirl. And thereāll never be another like her. Besides, sheās not going anywhere.
An extract from my review of The Life of A Showgirl that I'm really fucking proud of and hope you all read and share with every Taylor fan in your life x

so gemma was orpheus all along. when she looked back, called markās name, and asked him to come home.. innie mark realized he had no feelings for this woman. if she had stayed facing forward maybe the allegiance to his outie would have won out. but gemma turning around made him hesitate long enough for helly to appear. and when she called his name.. it was game over. eurydice embraced the underworld with open arms.
Iāve think Iāve figured it out
I think I know what MDR is doing and what lumon is doing and where this story is going to go
Itās Orpheus and Eurydice. Eurydice dies and goes to hell, Orpheus descends down there and gets the chance to bring her back, but loses her forever because he turns round to look at her.
If mark is Orpheus, and Gemma is Euridyce, and the severed floor is hell, that means that by going down there as a severed employee Mark got a chance to bring Gemma back, but heās going to lose it by looking back to find her. By reintegrating.
Gemma died. Like actually died. She wasnāt brain dead and intercepted by lumon. She died, mark identified the body. Somewhere between that and the cremation lumon took her.
Lumon is trying to raise the dead, presumably to bring back Kier (whoās body im sure is being preserved in some horrid cult place of worship somewhere in the depths of lumon) and has been pretty successful so far. At getting the body back. The mind is trickier, and thatās what MDR is doing. Theyāre tidying up brain waves, trying to bring a persons memory and conciousness back.
Thatās why the files expire. The person gets too dead, their brain gets too damaged, and thereās no point trying anymore.
Gemma has been the most successful so far. Sheās not just physically alive, but her brain is functioning too. Her position as wellness counsellor was an experiment to see how she interacts with other people, to see how well her consciousness is recovering
Coldharbour is her last file. When itās done, sheāll be completely back and lumon will have successfully brought a dead person fully back to life, a major milestone for them. If it expires, sheāll be gone forever
Mark reintegrated. Heās going to be suspicious of lumon, suspicious of the work, and so caught up in looking for Gemma he wonāt finish cold harbour
He looked back. So heās going to lose her forever

āi donāt even like taylor swift but-ā this may come as a complete shock to some of you, but you can condemn a planned terrorist attack without bringing your thoughts on taylor into it. these attempts at virtue signalling are just unnecessary.
