Vaughn Fahie Jazz....
I've had the pleasure working with Vaughn for several years.....We first met at Los Amigos Elementary school where my daughter and his son were in the same pre-school class. Vaughn is a tremendous musical talent. And his instrument of choice is the sax.... Vaughn has just created a new promo video that has some of my imagery I captured of him at wedding he played at down at Dana Point California, right above the bay. Also another fine photographer, Veronica Bernhagen, has images that Vaughn features and his promo video was artfully made by Edwin Natividad ..... It was a beautiful day for the bride and groom, and was enhanced by Vaughn's smooth and melodious music. Please watch his video below:

It's been a long time....
It's been a while since I've done a blog post....I'm going to try and do better. I've been spending alot of time on social media, and have been neglecting my own website. A few posts back (which was a couple of years ago) I ran across a video of an artist that did the cover art for one of John Mayer's albums. His name is David Smith who does incredible custom lettering and signage. I came across another gentleman on Facebook, Jake Weidmann, Master Penman. Please watch this video and appreciate his skill and craftsmanship! We need to support all of our creative people in any way that we can...
A new look for Pasquale and Felicia's Honeymoon Photo, Circa 1925...
A few years ago, I was commisioned by my good friend and Godmother to my daughter, Xenia, Dianna DiOssi. Dianna presented me a photo of her paternal grandparents, Pasquale and Felicia DiOssi, taken on their honeymoon in 1925. I was honored that she came to me with the task of doing some restoration work on a wonderful piece of family history. At the time that I was given the photo, I didn't have the most recent version of Photoshop (which I believe was CS5 at the time). I didn't have access to some of the tools that would make some the work that was needed to be done, a litter easier. So I got the ol' clone stamp tool, and others tools, and got busy. The original had defintley seen better days. It was torn at some point in time, from top to bottom along with a variety of other areas of damage:
Now a majority of the photo was in good shape, and was easy to fix, it was a matter of cleaning up spots and scratches and a general brightening up overall with some detail enhancement. Where I had a challenge was around Pasquale's head and face. With a little time and patience, I was able to get to the final piece below. I also made it a duo tone to put back that look of an aged photo (which it is!!). I was pleased with the end results:
I've been working with products from a company called Photobacks. It allows you to give your photos a multitude of looks, based on customizable templates, backdrops and overlays as well as some great Photoshop actions. With the use of Photobacks , the only thing that you are limited by is your imagination. Recently Photobacks issued one of their free templates which they do from time to time for their Facebook subscribers. When I looked at this month's "free-bee", I thought back to the image I had done for Dianna. Here is how it looks after a little customization to the template. Photo restoration is something that I enjoy doing, and hope to do more of in the future. It allows me to use both technical and creative sides of me, as well as satisfies my interest in history.
Here is a little history on Dianna's Grandparents, Pasquale Thomas DiOssi and Felicia Rose Capadonna DiOssi. This picture was taken in 1925 on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City. Pasquale was born in Naples Italy and came to America in 1919. Felicia was born in New York, but her parents were from Sicily. They resided in Wilmington, Delaware, and were the parents to 5 children, Pasquale, Alessandro, Vito (Dianna's father), Carmella, and Alphonse. It was an honor to be able to restore and help preserve a piece of family history like this!! Thanks Dianna for giving me this opportunity.
Throwback Thursday!!!!
Here is an image I found of my uncle Robert Willis showing me the ropes of his slr camera. I'm not sure what model it was but I was, around 12 years old. I had gone back to stay with my grandmother on my mother's side for the summer in Cincinatti and got in touch with my father. They divorced when I was very young, and this was the first time I had met my fathers side of the family. I guess that it was all a matter of time that I got back into photography years later. My father is a very creative person (I've been told). So my I guess my instinct to the more creative side of things is in the genes. I'm a graphic designer, by trade, trying to make my way as a freelancer. I'm glad I found this picture because it just re-affirmed that I've had this desire to do this all of my life...Just got to keep on pushin'.
