FACT: Dodos were flightless birds that can run really fast, and were native to the island of Mauritius. They had no natural enemies and therefore had no natural defenses when sailors settled on the island...which led to their extinction. Historians are uncertain about how this animal got its name; it may have been derived from the Dutch word "dodoor" (sluggard) or from the Portuguese word "doudo" (crazy). It was only in 2007 that a complete skeleton of a dodo bird was found, which could confirm many of the dodo bird facts.
