as someone who was diagnosed autistic as a child i have absolutely no shared experience with people who are like "WOW i just found out i have autism😲" in their 20s. like the ppl who are making infographics abour it on instagram are not the same people who were childhood social pariahs for being weird and unapproachable. sorry this post is meaner than i intended. oopsies

wait ok adding on to this here's my surprisingly controversial opinion. i think aspergers/high functioning autism is a useful label bc people like me (or most people who post about being autistic on the internet) have barely any shared experience with people who need 24/7 care. like yah the world is very hostile and difficult sometimes but WE still Have the privilege and fortune to be able to navigate it with less help.
