JEFFERSON COUNTY, MO

I know a math major would say it's not so, but it seems we always have runs on certain types of animals.  This week it is BIG BLACK DOGS.  Last week it was Boxers and for weeks before that it was Beagles.  I've been doing this for a while and have noticed these coincidences.

  The vet is scheduled to visit JCAC on Tuesdays and Fridays if enough animals are not reclaimed, adopted or rescued.  As animals come off of their stray hold, they need a rescue commitment by 4 p.m. the day before the scheduled vet visit. 

You must have a Missouri Dept. of Ag License to pull.  If not, please contact me, Stacy, [email protected] by return e-mail to see if we can help facilitate a rescue.

    DOGS

  All dogs get Bordatella. Depending on age, JCAC has been worming and giving DHPP and if the vet visits, the dogs still on stray hold will get their rabies vaccs.

Volunteer said:  "This boy is HUGE!! He is very handsome. Was good on a leash."Unfortunately he seems to be dog aggressive while in the shelter.  One rescuer took him out with another non neutered dog and it did not go well.  Another rescuer told me he was dominant.  I did walk a non neutered dog by him today while he was in his run.  They sniffed and then he did growl and bark at him.  Could the shelter environment be a contributing factor and the fact that he is not neutered and neither were the other dogs?  Is there anyone out there that can help him?  He's good with people and the volunteers like him.

Pittie lab mix.  Volunteer said:  "Handsome lab/pit mix. Very well behaved. Young male volunteer has him on a leash. Put a little dog in outside kennel next to him and he didn't even bark. Is very nice to dogs on either side and both are unaltered males!!"  Was very calm in his run today.  Seemed like a good dog.

JOLIET, ILLINOIS

Please help these two sweet, beautiful dogs!  Asia is a Lab mix and Bamboo is a American Pit Bull Terrier.  They both can use a diet but they are both very sweet, loving dogs.  They want to be babied.  They are big lap dogs that get along fine with other dogs and are good with children.  They are both very, very friendly.  The lady that has to find them a place is going into senior living and cannot take the dogs with her.  They do not have to go to rescue together.  They are both spayed. Nita (their mom) is going to a senior living facility and has to give them up. Or else they go to Joliet Animal Control. She needs to place them by this week. My volunteer in Stella, Mo (puppy mill haven) has picked up two pups off the road dumped...one male and one female...breed unknown...she is calling them about 5-6 mo old...I have not seen them yet but she says they are sweet as pie...I am sooo full but she cannot keep them past tomorrow ...I can hold them and get to transport with a rescue committment...

She says they are NOT pits .... she knows her pits....

They are coming in fast and lots of pregnant females...I am already over what I can handle...cannot take anymore unless they move pretty fast...

     Seneca MO: Chocolate lab mix and Aussie

(or wire hair pointer) mix OUT OF TIME!!!

The chocolate lab mix is a young, intact male, perhaps a year.  He has been in the pound 4 weeks because we have been begging for time but cannot find anybody to take him.   The ACO agreed to keep him a "few more days."    He is social with people and gets along with other dogs.   The other dog appears to be an Aussie shepherd (or wire hair pointer) mix.  She is a young female, friendly and is wearing a nice collar without a tag.   Nobody has claimed her.  She will be out of time Wednesday.

  DACHSHUND/MIN-PIN MIX URGENTLY NEEDS RESCUE!!!

  All but the little female girl, a black and tan chi-weenie, found rescue!  Laura went ahead and pulled her but she is full and needs to find rescue for this little one.  The shelter dubbed her as a fear biter but Laura has had no problems with her.  In fact, when Laura's husband brought her home from the shelter, she slept on his lapa all the way home!  Below is the original write-up about her.  Laura does not think she is a chi-weenie but rather a Dachshund/MinPin mix. Aurora, IL: There are some BEAUTIFUL pits here right in our own backyard in need of rescue. See below for photos and info. Pirate Betsy and Rosko have some sponsor dollars, but they are both set to be killed very soon! So do not waste time if you can rescue. Bella Sunny Jackson and Geroge all need rescue too as they are full and have no room for them. Please LOOK and try to help even one stay alive. Contact is below. ALL are YOUNG so please post for them if you can not rescue. The BAD news is that Pirate Betsy has now been taken OUT of the adoption room. We can't adopt out any dog on any kind of medication. She's on meds for pododermatitis and the vet says she has to be kept on a mat/gridded surface rather than on concrete. She may be sensitive to the chemicals used for power washing; she may be allergic to the food she's been on (Purina Dog Chow), but we aren't going to do any kind of testing to find out. This is NOT a good thing! Any time dogs are too "labor intensive" (i.e., you have to do more than food/water) their days are numbered. Please help me get Betsy out! She's a good dog. She's this fantastic combination dog that can go from playing ball in the back yard to following you inside for a snuggle on the couch. She's past the crazy puppy stage, but she's got WAY more fun to have before retirement. How can anybody resist her perfect eye patch!? She's a low key snuggle dog who still has plenty of energy for bouncing, 2-3 year old spayed female. No cats, but good with other dogs her size. There is still $100 sponsorship on PIRATE BETSY and ROSKO! I don't know how much longer it will be in effect. Both are spayed/neutered and vetted except for rabies and have been friendly with dogs their own size .These are really cool dogs, but if they are here too long they start to be seen as "unadoptable" and can be euthanized even though they're vetted. Rosko is a neutered 3 year old that was never reclaimed by the owner after coming in as a stray. He's generally calm and quiet, but strong on leash. Pictures don't do this huge headed guy justice. Simmons is still here as well. He's on hold for adoption, but that's tentative as of right now. He's a very puppy puppy! Very sweet, active and sees everybody as his friend. He has no more leash issues. He knows when the leash goes on, it's time to go out for fun! He's just a nice little dog. We have him as 1 year old...if you're looking for a puppy, though, he could be your huckleberry! He is already neutered. Priscilla (Queen of the Nile) is an approximately 3 month old puppy. No medical issues- sweet and friendly, but that doesn't keep her off "the list." Priscilla has a tentative rescue as of right now... Pocket Pit, anyone?! Bella was an owner release. Mom brought her in because the owner went to college and Dad is allergic. She was a little fearful at first, but when plied with cookies, can sit give both paws and lay down (that one I think she just learned the other day). It also seems like someone taught her to "dance" or something similar because she does kind of an "up" and balances without putting her paws on you as a default when she's not sure what you want. She was described as a "pit mix" and certainly looks it, but is very petite- about the size of an extra large Jack Russell. She's about a year old female and up to date on all shots according to the owner. HEY!! Little puppy alert! Sunny must have gone under the radar last time...don't let her sit here while the puppy room fills to beyond capacity with fluffy puppies...you know darn well who will go down first! Sunny says BOTH attention AND toys, please! She's about 3 months old. Her owner came in after she's been here for 4 days and was sooo happy to find her. He said he'd be back to reclaim her in half an hour!...that was two days ago now. (UPDATE...4 more days...and counting... Jackson is a 1 yo intact male that came in as a stray. He's a happy, friendly guy that likes other dogs. He's active, but settles down quickly, especially for a boy his age. He really likes attention - particularly, back scritchies! George is a 1 year old Pit/Boxer mix. He's just a nice guy - not too barky or jumpy...He's decided that he's just as happy getting the little bit of attention when we administer meds for his ear infection as at his old house, out in the yard by himself most of the time. Mexico, MO: PLEASE CROSSPOST & SHARE!!! Jasper is in DIRE Need of rescue!! He was found lying alongside the highway in Mexico Mo. He was picked up by a ncie woman that took him home. However, he is not inside; outdoors on a chain! He is skin & bones, flea infested, etc!! Jasper appears to be a lab mix. He is SUPER sweet and gentle!! Gets along with other dogs. Louisiana, MO: Blind Pit Bull! Please help! PLEASE CROSSPOST & SHARE!!! Jackson is a 5yr old, male Pit Bull. This sweet guy is mostly blind! He may have a tiny bit of vision left but it is minimal! However it doesnt slow him down! He is the sweetest, most gentle boy around!! He just wants to be loved and cuddled! He clearly had a collar on a one point, can see the marks of it almost being embedded! He appears to get along with other dogs, not cat tested. He adores all people! Jefferson County, MO: A generous donor has offered to sponsor the female Walker Hound at JCAC for $100. My email goes out to all the local rescues in the area. Can someone please make space for her? Volunteers say she is a very happy dog and is non-reactive when walked past the other dogs. There is something going on with her front legs. They seem a little stiff. Volunteers think she is only about 3 or 4 y/o and that she may have had a litter or two. They emphasized she is really sweet. Pictures are below. LOUISIANA MO ---- MIN PIN PLEADING FOR HELP!! NEEDS OUT ASAP...OUT OF TIME! PLEASE CROSSPOST AND SHARE!! Baby is a 6yr old, female Min Pin. (possible mix) About 15lbs. She is a sweet girl that takes a little time to warm up. SHe loves to get treats. SHe appears to get along with other dogs, not cat tested. She was brought in as a bite case, so is "RESCUE ONLY". Her time was up on the 5th.....she is now living on borrowed time! Her story: Had a family! They had her on a VERY long tie out in the front yard. A tie out that reached clear to the sidewalk! Schaumburg, IL: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE..... Help us save these poor boys... We are in urgent need of help for these great dogs! They have until Friday, March 23rd or will be PTS. Because of the Spring Break Boarding crowd these dogs are first on the list to be put to sleep. They have literally given us a date of 3/23/12 AM and if they don't have rescue commitment, they will be PTS that AM. Please Help!!! They don't deserve to die!! In fact, the shelter has extended two of their dates because they think they are worth it!!!! ALFRED -Young, healthy, local stray!!! Chicago Area: Help Bear! HE'S approximately 2 years old and cinnamon-tan color. Quiet, house trained and good natured. He clearly had a home before and probably got lost. His vet appt. is tomorrow (I'll have him fixed, tested, shots and chip) and should be ready for transport by 6:00 pm. All the vet records can accompany the boy. Mansfield, MO: From: A Bridge Between Canine Rescue These guys/gals were all abandoned left to fend for themselves. They all need approved rescue. All have had first round of vacs but no further vetting. They are all dog/kid friendly but have not been cat tested. Dexter: Stray approx. 2 years old Heeler Mix (Beagle?) Intact Needs immediate placement. He is staying with the elderly couple who found him, Della, and Delilah. Delilah and her 8 newborns have rescue. Della: Stray 1-2 years old Beagle Mix Came in last week in heat! This little girl is so shy and timid. When you get close to her she hits her belly and cries. She needs to be in a foster situation where she can get more one on one. She is not aggressive nor destructive but she is an escape artist...never seen a dog climb like a goat before. She will probably settle down once she is spayed as the neighbors down the road have an unaltered male...we are constantly with her when she is outside. ST. LOUIS, MO- JOEY NEEDS PLACEMENT BY FRI 3/23 It has been approximately 2 months since Joey first became an urgent dog. Joey was picked up as a stray and spent several weeks at an animal control facility. With his happy personality, stuck in a small indoor run, he developed "happy tail". With the strength and length of his tail, constantly hitting the walls of his run, he formed an open sore, which would not heal, causing lots of pain and lots of blood. He was the only one of the group of dogs networked that did not get a commitment. A few weeks later, Joey was brought to the larger county animal control to be euthanized. Fate had me placed there, because Joey had arrived 30 min before close, and would've been euthanized before open hours the following morning. He was one of 5 dogs pulled that day, and the only one who never had a commitment. The reason for his euthanasia was dog aggression, which was an unfair and inaccurate label. I took Joey to the vet to have his tail looked treated. They did some other tests, and it turned out he was Heartworm positive and had demodex mange. Not to mention, he was about 15 lbs underweight. Since then, I have raised the $400 to cover his heartworm treatment, his tails has healed, his mange is under control, and he is at a healthy weight. He is fully vetted, other than his heartworms. Joey is a mix, which I cannot figure out. He is tall and lean. He may have some pitbull in him, but he also may have some greyhound or pointer or even great dane. He is extremely loving. Joey is human submissive, especially with males. He listens well, loves car rides, does well on a leash. Joey spent about a month, with a female foster who has since gone to rescue. They were bonded, and did so well together. He has also been introduced to multiple other dogs, even spent a day sunbathing with some dogs at a friend's house. He is very easily excitable, and with his lankiness/clumbsiness/​awkardness, he does upset some dogs. He can be vocal when around other dogs, but has usually slipped a quick kiss on their nose. Joey has been seeking a foster home or a rescue. He had 2 potential foster homes, both which bailed on him due to personal reasons. He needs to start his heartworm treatment ASAP, so he can finally find a home of his own. The foster home should be a calm, quiet environment, which he would need about a 3 month commitment for, with strictly crate rest. Rescues who are interested, will receive the $400 raised, but it must be applied to his heartworm treatment. Joey needs a place to go by this Friday 3/23. There is another dog from his group, who was saved from euthanasia, sent to rescue only to face euthanasia again. This other dog really needs to take Joey's spot. If not, the other dog's future is unknown, and he may face death once again. Joey also really deserves to get through this last hurdle so he can move on to the life he always deserved. He is a one of a kind dog, who loves everyone who meets him, and everyone loves him. I have never met a dog so unique and quirky as him. Please consider helping! St. Louis, MO or Chicago, IL:

I am at a loss for what to do. Strike and Bella were picked up as strays in a St. Louis, MO area animal control many weeks ago. They came with their names, so either they were microchipped or had tags, but the owners never came. Bella had 4 pups while in animal control and was pulled to a temporary foster to take care of her babies.Strike is a few years old, believed to be a black lab mix of some sort. Strike sat there day after day. They had written "caution" on his kennel card, and when I asked "why?", they said he was agitated when they picked him up as a stray. The volunteers called him "grumpy", and therefore did not spend any time trying to get to know him. I asked an ACO if Strike was ok, and he said he never had any problems. He would come to me, but would back off when I tried to leash him up. The ACO got him on a leash, and the first thing that Strike did, was burrow his face into my chest. Strike went to a kennel, where the manager said they had no issues with him. He finally had a rescue commitment, and came to stay at my house until transport could be arranged. Strike did fine at the vet's office and did well at my home. He did growl when I tried to pick him up once to bring him inside, and from that point, he learned to jump up to come in. Everybody he met, he jumped on and gave them hugs. I knew he would need a little work though, and I explained everything I knew, to the rescue. They said they had behaviorists to help work with his issues. I had a hard time saying goodbye, when we met transport (picture attached), and even the transporter could see how much Strike was bonded to me. When he arrived at his rescue, they said he was struggling a little bit with the new environment, and that they would keep me posted. I hadn't heard anything for several weeks and expected that things were going ok. Then I got an email on Thursday, stating that he was "growling and posturing", and he had been evaluated by 2 trainers, both giving him a "thumbs down", and that the best solution was a humane euthanasia. I had told them if he was not doing well, that I would take him back. That was many weeks ago, and there is nowhere for him to go right now, except to a kennel, which would not solve any problems. I am in St. Louis, MO and he is in Chicago, IL. While i do not want to disregard professional trainers' evaluations, I see a different dog than they do. I see a dog, who was scared, confused and lacking confidence and stability. I see a dog, who wants to be held by humans and told that he is loved. Maybe a shelter setting was not ideal for him? I personally thought it would be better, because that way, he could be worked with, before going to an adoptive/foster home. Strike does not have much time. I am waiting for a response, as to what his actual issues are, and what they are in regards to. I am in no way trying to insult the rescue that took him. They did what they could within their own guidelines. I am desperate to find him a place where he can succeed. If anyone in or near the Chicago area or anywhere in the world has any ideas or suggestions, please let me know. Strike will likely need some work before he is considered adoptable. I am begging for help for this boy who I love so dearly. Out of the hundreds I have helped place, he is one of my most memorable. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.
