What's happening?
On July 9, Taliban officials claimed that they had taken control of 85 percent of Afghanistan’s territory.
Indian photojournalist Danish Siddiqui, whose searing images of wars, riots and human suffering won global accolades including the Pulitzer Prize in 2018, was killed in Afghanistan’s Kandahar province on Friday while covering the region’s escalating conflict for Reuters. He was 38.
They have been condemned internationally for enforcing their interpretation of the Sharia and brutal treatment of civilians – especially women who have faced oppression under their rule.
The Afghan forces are expecting the Taliban to attack key military installations such as Bagram at some point.
the civilian death toll in Afghanistan stands at over 47,200. This excludes 444 humanitarian aid workers and 72 journalists.
2.7 lakh Afghans have been newly displaced inside the country since January 2021 primarily due to insecurity and violence. That has taken the total displaced population to over 35 lakhs.
Who are talibans?
The Taliban, or "students" in the Pashto language, emerged in the early 1990s in northern Pakistan following the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan.
They are terrorist who claim to be scholers of Islam.
While they aim to impose a law called 'Sharia law' on Afghanistan, they have not accurately represented Islam in the way it should be. They have defied the teachings of Islam.
They have oppressed, raped and coerced women into marriages.
They oppress citizens of Afganisthan.
They are against the Afghani government.
They have restricted the movements of women in and around the country.
They have bombed schools and government buildings in Afganishthan and Pakistan.
How much has the Taliban advanced?
In recent weeks, the Taliban have gained several strategic districts, particularly along the borders with Iran, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
The Taliban control more than one-third of Afghanistan’s 421 districts and district centers.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told AFP their fighter had captured the border town of Islam Qala on the Iranian frontier and the Torghundi crossing with Turkmenistan.
With the Taliban having routed much of northern Afghanistan in recent weeks, the government holds little more than a constellation of provincial capitals that must be largely reinforced and resupplied by air.
- Please keep in my mind that THIS IS NOT A RELIGIOUS ISSUE. Talibans DO NOT represent Islam or Muslims. Infact, they've been torturing and oppressing Muslims (majority population) and minorities of Afganishthan for years now.
- Afganis themselves want Talibans to leave their country because they (Talibans) have caused nothing but misery and pain for Afganisthan.
- USA has also played a major factor in contributing to the blood that's been shed in Afganisthan. The ongoing war between Taliban and America have resulted in many innocent lives being lost.
Please spotlight Afganistan since the world media has largely ignored this issue. Afganis deserve to live in a free country without talibans, let us not forget the innocent lives who were killed by talibans and the US. 💔💔💔
