I don't know what it is about this Edwyn Collins track that feels so October-appropriate, but it feels almost criminal to not post it in the run-up to Halloween. Maybe it's the way it sounds straight out of a sitcom costume party, all dark wood and spray on cobwebs, three people in the same costume around a suspiciously food coloured punch bowl.

With the recent AM stream sending everyone in a tailspin, it only felt right posting an old favourite from Arctic Monkeys' 2006 debut album as my Throwback Thursday song for this week. Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not was the soundtrack to a chunk of my secondary school experience, and I'll admit I haven't paid much attention to the band's releases post-Favourite Worst Nightmare, keeping them in that moody space between Year 8 and Year 10. Judging by aforementioned tailspin, it's pretty clear their music still has the same impact, and I'd be lying if I said I don't feel like a proud parent.

Usually, "Song of the Day" means, "Song of the past few months that I haven't posted yet", but I first heard MS MR's This Isn't Control last night, and it's been on repeat since. Lizzie Plapinger's voice is gorgeously clear*, and the slightly eerie undertone of the song makes the perfect backdrop.
*It's a valid compliment, I swear. There's a clarity to it you wouldn't expect from a softer, almost husky vocal.

I planned on starting to post again around Monday or so, but some things warrant an exception. Namely - and I'm typing this up past midnight, so heavily relying on it still being August 23rd in another timezone - the 19th anniversary of Jeff Buckley's Grace. I could ramble on here for hours and am actually pretty surprised I've resisted posting anything Buckley-related so far, but for now, here's a personal favourite from the album.

How's this for a throwback? This Throwback Thursday tune is from 1957. (I bet everyone's just excited that I didn't post anything from the 70s again.)This Johnny Mathis classic is my grandmother's favorite song. It is also featured in the trailer for Bioshock Infinite's Burial at Sea DLC. You can pick whichever reason you like best as the reason I chose to post this song.

It's a pretty fucking big day in music history today. Today marks the 44th anniversary of Woodstock. I present to you the first performer of the festival Richie Havens, performing Freedom. It's quite powerful if you consider the context of the time period.
Another Throwback Thursday here on Tunes Feed, and we're back to 2001. Jill Scott writes the kind of love songs that little me was convinced would be the soundtrack to whatever pre-watershed movie my adolescent love life would be; relaxed, carefree, and totally unabashed. (Also involving street parties and walking hand-in-hand past kids playing near burst fire hydrants. I'm sure it made sense at the time.) A Long Walk is no exception, and sounds just as perfect as it did when released twelve years ago.
