Splatoon food be upon ye
These are kinda lame. Much cooler in my head I prommy. But I got a singular bit of validation on my last post so! Sploon food!! Go my scarab
アゲバサミサンド!
Honey and two of his maids and some food he likes! I made it aaaallll up! No need to read all that if you don't want...
I think I'm getting things started, I'm happy to have managed to map out where the story of Waters Gone By will take place! 🦈✨
It's simple for now, but I hope you like it!
Right now, I'm working on creating some 3D models to help me when drawing the backgrounds, starting with downtown Tidebay buildings, then I'll focus on Roberto's apartment and bedroom!

I think I've finished the basic models of Tidebay downtown, where my sharkfolk live and shop, hehe 🛍️🦈✨
I added some plants and other simple buildings. Now I'm going to try draw over of them to see how I do!
(Sorry for the quality of the GIF, I had to reduce it significantly for Tumblr to accept it lol)
These were some additional simple buildings that I modeled to compose the city skyline.
A glimpse of what I'm doing now. I chose an angle of the city to experiment with how I fare at creating backgrounds for the webcomic I'm thinking of making, drawing over 3D models.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what is the cultural inspiration for the buildings in the back and the traditional clothing of the two sharks and human on the left?
Your question isn't stupid at all! These are fun questions.
For the structures, I generally thought of making them all circular or cylindrical as the main rule of their worldbuilding. An idea of the circle as a symbol of unity and community, a symbol of water and the ocean.
The ancient settlement that appears under a mangrove tree would be several circular walls made of shell midden, a mixture of limestone and shell debris, inspired by the settlement of Choirokoitia.
For the huts, I was inspired by a cylindrical version of the Dogon people's huts and also by the Spanish town of Alberobelo.
For the palaces, from here on, I am greatly inspired by the architect Antoni Gaudi (my favorite architect!). It would be a mixture of domed architectural inspirations, such as the Church of Saint Joan of Arc in France, the architecture of Casapueblo in Uruguay, the design of Masia Freixa in Spain, and Chorsu Bazaar in Uzbekistan.
For the mansions, it is inspired by a mixture of Antoni Gaudi and Portuguese architecture of the Brazil.
For modern buildings, they are an imagination of what skyscrapers with Antoni Gaudi's architecture could look like. They would be large cylindrical towers covered with colorful tiles, with organic shapes reminiscent of corals.
For the more current buildings, which are not represented in the art, I am drawing inspiration from some modernist architects from my country, such as Oscar Niemeyer, Artacho Jurado, Ruy Ohtake, Fernando Peixoto, etc.
Regarding the clothing, I didn't do anything too in-depth; it's just inspired by fantasy ideas like tunics or something similar. In innovation age, it's somewhat steampunk? I'll dedicate more time to the clothes at some point.
The human girl's outfit was sewn by the Sharkfolk after her original clothes wore out. It's inspired by some Hawaiian and Maori clothing, combined with modern pieces. The pants and sandals were a special request from her to the Sharkfolk.
Oh, thanks a lot for reminding me of this artwork! I need to finish coloring it!
A glimpse of Roberto's old family home, where he was born and lived until he was 8 years old, before it was destroyed by the mysterious 'Great Storm' that devastated the downtown of Reef City.
The house was a large "Sobrado" designed by Fernando, one of Roberto's two dads and who is an environmental engineer. Fernando was inspired by the ancient architecture of the sharkfolk, called 'atoll style', a ring structure with several rooms surrounding a central lagoon. The family who lived in this type of house usually met to consecrate meals at a gazebo in the center. These houses were always built by the sea.
I was inspired to try to make a 3D model to imagine what the complete house would look like hehe
As the house was built in a rural region of the island, Alejandro, Roberto's second dad, established a seaweed plantation around the house to make 'seaweed wine', which was aged submerged under the sea.
Unfortunately, everything was lost in the great storm. Fernando holds a lot of resentment about this, as the house he designed was literally a dream come true. He had wished on a falling star to have the chance to build this house and honored the star with an ornament on the house's tower.
Roberto's family currently lives in a resort called 'Seven Waves', which has been converted into a residential building to house refugees who lost their homes in the great storm.
The style of the house looked like something from Studio Ghibli hehe

I thought about preserving the model of the house on Sketchfab if anyone wants to see it!✨
I added some more details that I was missing in the construction hehe
Old house where Roberto lived with his entire family of great hammerhead sharks. That house was destroyed by a mysterious storm when he was
I know this is a weird question, but what exactly do the bigger sharks eat in your world? I know Rocky is a Great Hammerhead and they (as a species) are known to be other shark eaters, so is there like an alternative meat that they eat, or do they just stick to stingrays and bony fish?
That's a curious question, and I was quite inspired when I thought about how to answer it!✨
In the past, they used to hunt wild fish, but with the advent of the modern age, they stopped fishing and adapted entirely to the practice of pisciculture. 🐟✨
In a hypothetical future on this Earth, fish are incredibly larger and more abundant. Some have been domesticated, just as we humans used to do, and are treated with deep respect.
In order not to cover too much, I've focused only on the fish that have been domesticated for consumption in the region where my main characters live, called 'Aguazu'.🏝️✨
They are the descendants of species we know, such as Arapaima, Tuna, Tilapia, Sardines, Anchovies, Salmon, Cod, Octopus, Squid, Crab and Shrimp.
These are some of the typical dishes of the Aguazu region, most of which are variations on recipes handed down from the ancient human presence that marked this region a thousand years ago. Lots of seafood-based dishes with a spicy touch! 🌶️✨
Some of these dishes were inspired by real recipes from my country such as: Casquinha de Siri, Tuna Poke, Vatapá, Bobó de Camarão, Moqueca de Peixe, Octopus Rice, Acarajé, Cod Baked in Olive Oil, Cod Croquettes and the sweet dessert called Manjar, which is a coconut pudding with plum syrup!
Things like corn, wheat and other fruits, vegetables and animals domesticated by humans disappeared millions of years ago. So I wondered what other options they could find to use as the main ingredients.
Algae Flour, Palm Oil, Palm Butter, Coconut Milk, Palm Sugar, Domesticated Snake Eggs, Sea Salt. In the Santa Maré region, palm is widely used as the main ingredient, while other regions may prefer ingredients based on algae, for example.
Some domesticated fruits and vegetables are only used to season and enhance the flavor of dishes, but they don't make much difference to their bodies.
There was a time in the past when small and medium-sized sharks feared 'Niuhi', the name for large sharks that could devour smaller sharks such as the great white shark, great hammerhead shark, tiger shark and others.
However, this fear was unjustified, as when a smaller shark fell victim to a wild predator, the Niuhi were the first to be suspected. Fortunately, this has changed over time, although some small displays of prejudice still persist.
They eat several meals a day, and food is plentiful in this civilization, so the great sharks wouldn't need to devour their friends to satisfy their hunger, hehe.
And speaking of Roberto, my big hammerhead shark, if he gets really hungry, a Tuna Poke is enough to make him very happy and satiated! 🍣✨
The Dreamfarers Sharkfolk 🦈🎶
I was exploring ideas of shark characters for my secret stories. This time I had the inspiration to make an teen indie band from to enrich a retro worldbuilding of sharks that I created!
⭐ Aria Almarina is an introverted and reserved zebra shark, but behind her distant gaze lies an eccentric and optimistic personality. Fascinated by anthropology, she is a veritable walking encyclopedia on extinct humans. Passionate about photography, she also loves to express herself through singing, a role that made her the band's lead singer. For Tiago and Roberto, Aria is like a star that inspires hope and faith, bringing purpose and meaning to their lives, just as they did to hers.
☀️ Tiago Tigrado is a bold and confident tiger shark. Despite his rebellious, independent appearance, he is always ready to take care of his friends. He enjoys sports such as skateboarding and surfing, is enthusiastic about geek culture and video games, and has a keen interest in electronics. His favorite form of expression is through the synthesizer, which led him to become the keyboardist for the band. To his friends, Tiago is like a warm sun that illuminates and guides when everything seems uncertain.
🌙 Roberto Martiello is a great hammerhead shark, hyperactive and charismatic, with strong empathy. He provides emotional support to his friends, although this sometimes causes him to neglect himself. He loves to cook for his friends, despite his fear of fried foods. He is attracted to mysteries and esoteric themes, and likes to express himself through acoustic instruments, which naturally made him the band's guitarist. To his friends, Roberto is the caring moonlight that brings the reflection their hearts needed to hear.
Together, they are aspiring musicians and have formed the band Dreamfarers! 🦈🎶

Varishkava! I adored the flea caravan from the moment I met them--they're a cheerful light in a dark world. Way before I knew anything about Act III, I could imagine them inviting their new warrior friend to set down her weapon and enjoy their company and hospitality awhile before rushing off again on her quest.
And feeling inspired by the bug food other people have come up with in art and fics, I had to draw some, too. Everything here is made with blood--they're fleas!--and I think they'd mostly eat foods that keep well for traveling, with fresh-made foods as more of a special thing.
(also these drawings are set pre-Kratt because he'd spoil the vibe)

If Baker was a Silksong NPC, would she sell foods based on the region she's in? (And if on Mt Fay, would it be possible to make ice cream? Do Hollow Knight bugs even have ice cream?)
I think she would have items based off the location! Whether or not Hornet would BUY THEM though /joke
I definitely think that she gathers local stuff to cook to try and sell (in addition to feeding herself and Potpie, they gotta care for themselves too!), but she probably keeps a bit of a stockpile in case she goes to an area that doesn't have a lot of foragables. Like Mt Fay, lol.
I don't think Ice Cream is possible, but Shaved Ice is! I also drew some more Mt. Fay food bc I love drawing fake food
the green syrup is a sweetened sap from plants and the Puffs are the little white plant balls you find in the mountain
