October 7 2020 - Riot police in Athens attacked the tens of thousands of antifascists who had gathered outside of the court house to await the results of the trial against the neonazi Golden Dawn party. (Coincidentally; it is estimated that in the 2012 elections 50% of police in Athens voted for the neonazis.) Antifascists fought back with molotovs, bottles and bricks. The judges declared Golden Dawn a criminal organisation and found the far-right group guilty of operating a gang of hit squads bent on eliminating their enemies, like immigrants, minorities and leftists.

The leader of the Golden Dawn and seven other MP’s for the party were sentenced to 13 years of prison. 57 other neonazis were convicted of murder, assault, weapons possession and either running or participating in a criminal organisation, and a total of more than 500 years behind bars was handed down by the court. The high-ranking Golden Dawn member who murdered antifascist rapper Pavlos Fyssas, a murder that ultimately led to this court case, was sentenced to life in prison.

The hearing was the biggest trial of fascists since the prosecution of the Nazis at Nuremberg after the second world war. [video]/[video]/[article]
