What's in my bag? I'm glad you asked! - 4x100 flashcards - biochemistry review book - notebook - pencil case - headphones - water bottle - my youth The premed lifestyle isn't the most exciting lifestyle out there, but it's mine!
It turns out one of my favourite cafes in downtown Victoria has a silent room just next door for those who want to get work done in a more quiet environment! I love this place, I'll be sad when move back to the mainland in August... Today I'm whizzing through the CARS Review before I go bouldering with my friends at a nearby climbing gym later today :)

AYYY RAISING GOATS 👌👌🐐
Getting some work done in between my volunteer shifts today! I needed another background noise show so and my friend recommended The Office, it has tons of episodes so it should last me a while! Also shoutout to that same friend for getting me this mug for my birthday last week ❤👌
Medschoolmanic Presents: Brachial Plexus Made Easy!
The bane of all students who take anatomy seems to be the same: the brachial plexus. But never fear! I I found a link online that you can follow here that makes learning the brachial plexus incredibly simple. I drew out the steps themselves to show the process in color. Furthermore, I corrected a few mistakes within the presentation. Let us begin!
Step 1: Start by drawing two y shaped lines in the same direction. Feel free to draw them in either direction as it will make it easier to learn if you can draw it both ways.
Step 2: Draw another Y shaped line in the opposite direction.
Step 3: Draw an M connecting your initial two Y’s. This will also be an important point of reference when looking at the cadaver.
Step 4: Draw an X and a dash
Step 5: Label the nerves roots (C5-T1)
Step 6: Label your nerve branches. Key is as follows:
Mc: Musculocutaneous
Ax: Axillary
R: Radial
M: Median
U: Ulnar
Some people like to remember the mnemonic MARMU for the brachial plexus branches
Step 7: The rest of the brachial plexus can be split up into four groups of 3. Our first 3 would be the branches to C5, C6, and C7 that form the lateral thoracic nerve (LTN)
Step 8: The next three to be added are the following:
DSN: Dorsal scapular nerve
SS: Suprascapular nerve
LP: Lateral pectoral nerve
Step 9: The next three nerves to be added are the:
SS: Subscapular nerve
TD: Thoracodorsal nerve
SS: Subscapular nerve
Step 10: The last three to be added are:
MP: Medial Pectoral Nerve
MBC: Medial Brachial Cutaneous Nerve
MABC: Medial Antebrachial Cutaneous Nerve
Step 11: Last nerve to be added is the Subscapular nerve
Step 12: The last step is to label your roots, trunks, divisions, cords, and branches, which I separated with a faint gray line. At this time, you’ll want to label your upper, middle, and lower trunks, the anterior and posterior divisions, and your lateral, medial and posterior cords. Some people like to remember the order from roots to branches with the mnemonic: Real Truckers Drink Cold Beer.
All done! After drawing this out a few times you should get to the point where you can draw out the entire plexus from memory. The key to anatomy is repetition repetition repetition. Best of luck!
For any M1s starting out with anatomy!

This image is so cool!
I'm back on the mainland for the weekend! My brother's convocation from BCIT was yesterday and I just couldn't bear to miss it so I hustled back to the mainland on Wednesday to make sure I'd be there for him. Not going to lie, my throat hurts a bit from cheering for him as he crossed the stage. He graduated with a diploma in architecture and ALREADY has a job in the field, I'm thoroughly jealous haha. My brother and I were the only two to graduate from university this year year out of our entire family so my parents are having the time of their lives bragging about it to all of their friends! Let's hope they get to see me graduate from medical school as well in the years to come! Also, coincidentally, Ramadan is ending this weekend so I'll also be sticking around to celebrate Eid with my family. Just in case I don't post before then I'd like to wish Eid mubarak to my fellow Muslim followers and studyblrs! 🙇♀️❤ This morning I am chipping away at the last bit of my biochemistry review book, I'm so relieved that I remember most of this even though I found biochem to be the hardest part of my undergrad career. Looks like my struggles might pay off after all!
I was planning on studying at UVic this morning but I ended up at my favourite cafe instead. It's much closer to home, which is nice because I definitely forgot my biochemistry review book there. Hopefully I can finish the last two chapters of organic chemistry quickly so I can run home quickly to grab it!
…and just like that, I’m back on schedule! Today is yet another studying day, but this time boo has joined me to work on homework for his computational theory class. I had a VERY good brain day yesterday and I was able to stay focused for long enough to get back on track! To celebrate, I spent yesterday evening at a comedy club watching my old high school teacher (also professional comedian) do a comedy show, which was quite the experience, haha.
I also bought a couple non-sciencey books from Chapters just for light reading, I’m looking forward to reading them whenever I can tear myself away from my MCAT books for long enough to enjoy them!
Today I'm sitting in one of my favourite cafes enjoying a delicious caramello while I chip away at the general chemistry review! I'm about 1/3 done the book now because I fell a bit behind schedule due to illness earlier this week. Hopefully I'll be able to catch up in the next couple days so I can start the organic chemistry review next Sunday-ish!
I got all four of my wisdom teeth taken out yesterday but that doesn't mean I get to take a break from studying! I'm planning to be done the biopsyc by next Sunday so I can start the chemistry and organic chemistry books before the end of the month! I have so many topics to cover in so little time, but I'm confident I'll feel prepared come August. :)
Back at it again with studying at 8am! Now that I've finished with actual school work, I'm back at school to start preparing for the MCAT. It's going to be hard to focus today because it's supposed to be sunny and up to 19 degrees... I guess my study breaks will double as tanning sessions today! 😅😅
Tomorrow morning I will be writing the last final exam of my undergraduate degree, my final final, if you will. It seems rather fitting that my biopsychology degree will end with a neural development exam! I'm slightly nervous since I'm almost done but I have to stay focused because this one will be tough and require all of my mental capacity 😅. Oh well, do it for the BSc and a future full of brains ❤❤❤❤
I'm studying for my exam that's in 10 days instead of studying for the one that's in 3 days because one can only study stats for so long. As long as you have a proper formula sheet and know how to use the equations there's not much more you can do! Meanwhile my ion channels and disease exam is cumulative so there's some more incentive to work on that instead! (Also Huntington's Disease is infinitely more interesting than ANOVA tables👌)
Today is the last day of classes of my undergraduate degree. I might have had a mild panic attack last night but it's right back to business this morning! I'm finishing up my stats assignment due today and then I'm going to check over my (20 page 😢) ion channels and disease assignment so I can hand it in early and be done with it. My prof made it due during my road trip later this week and we all know that it won't get done then. 😅 👌
I find people who blast music on the silent floor of libraries such that a person 3 seats away can hear the lyrics to be super inconsiderate. You're on the quiet floor, turn it down, people are here to avoid distractions like you.
