Some people have asked me to pin a post with a link to my website, so here you go:
www.turtlebrownie.com
The site is made and run entirely by me, and hosts stuff about me, links to other social media, and information about my OCs, but more so the site was made with the purpose of collating information and helpful resources for artists.
You'll find my brushes, as well as links to useful resources and tutorials I've made, all for free. There aren't many tutorials as of right now since it's just me doing them, and the site hasn't been up for super long, but slowly and surely as suggestions come in, the site will be populated with a lot more.
Please enjoy :) Donations are always welcome to help keep the site hosted and free for people to use, but is never necessary. Thank you!
This is my first Artfight, and it's helped me break down a massive art block I'd been struggling with for the first half of this year so I'm delighted to present what I've been up to (6 images under the cut)
Laurenyuj's Laenys!
ichiyi25's Iroha!
One_TrueBlue's Astr!
@turtle-brownie's Mei!
@stayathomekowboy's Tamara!
And finally @ladyylynx's Eileen Trevelyan!
You can find me here on Artfight if anyone wants to join and/or see my OCs!
Honest question, how is your art so ridiculously immaculate 😭 asking for a friend
To be completely honest, it's mostly because I am some kind of Neurodivergent. Got this fancy thing called an 'autism diagnosis' that makes me get all kinds of crazy and abnormally obsessed with sitting down and drawing my blorbos all day, everyday, for like a decade
for blending, it was honestly just from doing a whole lot of studies, especially from photos, and it just sort of 'clicked' for me. It's also to do with the brushes you use, I like using 'softer' brushes that blend a lot smoother (all my brushes are here).
Hard vs Soft Edges - Guide to Shadows
My Rendering Process (Video)
colour theory is a tricky one, I'd argue that I don't even fully understand it yet. My main advice about it, is to stop using the standard painter's colour theory predominantly taught in art classes (RYB) for blending & colour mixing, and learn the colour theory relevant to digital art (CMYK)
If you try to apply colour theory rules from traditional paint to digital art, you'll find that in digital art, mixing for example yellow and blue does not make green, but instead makes a gross grey-ish colour.
I suggest using RYB for picking colour palettes and schemes, and using CMYK when it comes to the rendering and painting process.

okay this might be a silly ask but do you have any tips on creating home brew species for dnd? i keep wanting to try and create one myself but i can’t figure it out :(
hi def not a silly ask!! I always love giving d&d advice/tips (almost a little too much lol)
I'm assuming here you mean more mechanical than worldbuilding, so this is what this is for. I've made homebrew races several times in the past for specific visions players had for their characters, and I follow a general guideline when doing so as follows:
Decide Creature Type
The default creature type is 'humanoid', but some races such as changelings are considered something else. What this impacts mostly, are some (mainly detection) spells/abilities such as 'Divine Sense', 'Detect Evil & Good' etc. Otherwise its difficult to break anything by picking the 'wrong' creature type.
Decide Creature Size
For playable races, pick either medium or small.
There is a reason WOTC ensure they never deviate from either, and it's because it can make things unbalanced very quickly.
Decide Creature Speed
Typical is 30ft (walking speed) for medium creatures, and 25ft for small. Some races have slight variations, i.e. Dhampirs have a 35ft walking speed.
Try not to go more than 35 or less than 25. You can also decide to add another speed on top of a walking speed, such as flying, swimming, or climbing. I recommend only picking only one extra, if you do pick one; and generally don't have it exceed 30ft.
I suggest keeping the walking speed to 25/30ft, and not adding an extra speed if you add in extra variable abilities.
Decide Ability Score Increase
Most, if not all races, have 1 or 2 points to put into ability scores. You can decide if players can pick whatever ability, or if you decide the ability. You can also decide if players can put 1 point into one ability, and 1 into another, or if they must use both points in one ability, etc.
I recommend giving only 1 point if you decide to give more variable abilities.
Pick Languages
All races get Common; you can decide if players get 1 extra language of their choice, or 1 extra language of their choice and 1 extra language you decide on.
Decide on Variable Abilities
Pick 2 or 3 from the following (you can pick some more than once):
Darkvision
60ft, but some races have more, i.e. Drow
Resistance
Resistance to cold, fire, poison etc. damage; advantage on certain saving throws i.e. against spells
Proficiency in a Skill
Spells
Some races, such as tieflings, gain an extra cantrip. You can just have it be a cantrip, or you can add spells the race automatically knows at certain levels (I'd say about 2 spells; one spell at 3rd level, and one at 5th level).
I'd also make it that the spells can only be cast once per long rest or something like that. If you pick this, don't forget to also pick the spell casting ability modifier.
A Cool Ability
I recommend seeing what abilities other races have, i.e. elf 'Trance', changeling 'Shapechanger', stayr 'Mirthful Leaps', dragonborn 'Breath Attack', etc., and either stealing them or using them as a basis to create your own.
What I've written here is the general guideline I use, but you'll notice some RAW races break these guidelines. Use your own judgement, and most importantly my general advice is don't create 'debuffs' (ie vulnerability to certain damage types, etc). I find players find these tedious and unfun.
If you're even uncertain if you've balanced something correctly, it never hurts to get a second pair of eyes; whether that's a friend, a stranger, or posting your build onto a d&d subreddit for the purpose of feedback.
ohhh I used to have a patreon for it but I don't draw it enough to really warrant keeping it active and I felt awfully guilty about taking people's money about it 🥲
Hii, I was just wondering how long it approximately takes you to finish a fully rendered piece? For example this Vindarr one? I find it so fascinating how perfectly you can define texture and form in your work. I aspire to be you honestly. <3
hi of course!! tysm!!!
the Vindarr one is a bit of a special one, because I spent a little more time on that compared to what I normally do to render paintings.
I can't give a super accurate estimate because I am terrible at keeping track of time, but I'd say I take anywhere between 45min to 3 hours on average (in one sitting, usually). The Vindarr one took me closer to 6 hours (I think... likely a bit more) spread out over the course of a few days/a week. I was using some new brushes and attempting to study/learn some colour theory, so I took a bit more time.
I recognise though that I draw unusually fast, compared to other artists. I have ADHD so I sort of lock-in on whatever I'm drawing and will sit there for the 1—3 hours straight with 0 breaks. I also try to finish things quickly because I know I tend to get bored and abandon WIPs if they're not done quick enough 🥲
Does Distro have interest in dating? If she went on a date, would it only be a pretense for some nefarious purpose or would she give it an honest attempt (only to end in disaster, of course)?

Subject: The Romeo Effect
Subject D157-R0, with even the correct procedures and restraints put into place, has an extremely childlike cognitive framework. This makes it uniquely pliant to obedience, with a callous cruelty and unyielding exaggeration of loyalty forming what we describe as ‘The Romeo Effect’.
Subject D157-R0 had been selected for the implementation of the ‘infiltrator’ kit, and exposure to various chemical and hormonal therapies during trials has proved Subject D157-R0 to be efficient as a stalker and hunter. It develops an almost monomaniacal obsession with a single target, with activity within the prefrontal cortex resembling that of a typical humanoid observing an object of attraction. Some staff have come to refer to the psychological effect as an ‘extreme, more violent form of “cuteness aggression”’.
While the mPFC activity has resemblance, Subject D157-R0 is noted to be incapable of ‘affection’ in any standard sense; Staff are warned to limit their interactions with the subject, and protocols have been put in place to regularly rotate the supervising team at frequent intervals, to avoid the subject from forming inappropriate manic fixations to any members of the staff. Personnel that notice clear displays of favouritism from the subject, are encouraged to seek assistance from the current supervising team, and will be removed from the project until it is deemed safe to return. Signs of such favouritism include: Unusual friendliness and curiosity from the subject, excessive staring from the subject, the feeling of being watched when alone, and any evidence of stalkish or lurking behaviours from the subject.
Faculty that choose to indulge Subject D157-R0’s infatuation do so at their own risk— Reminder that Summit Pharmaceuticals is not responsible for the injury and/or death as a result from the subject’s neurotic, psycho-sexual acts of ‘affection’. Staff are reminded that displays of infatuation and romance are misinterpreted and projective, and are not reflective of Subject D157-R0’s core function for the purposes of the Zarcenian Defense Force. Any efforts to form interhuman relationships with the subject, will be grounds for termination from the project.

Hey there! I was wondering what brushes you used for this artwork, I’ve been looking for textured brushes on clip studio for a a while now and it seems like I can never find any? turtle-brownie/821485232331046912/did-this-like-a-few-months-ago-whoopsee
hiii of course!!! I used mainly 3 different brushes from memory, and all three are up on my website here:
Canvas Brushes - The main 'crux' of the painting; textured brushes that mimic the look of traditional paint on canvas
Intoxicate Pencil Set - A bit less textured than Canvas Brushes, but I use this one predominately for refining and details
Textured 3 - I use this one in conjunction with Canvas Brushes to lay down colour, as well as blending. This one has a more subtler texture, and looks especially nice with the colour jitter feature.
The first one can be found on the CSP asset store; the other two are downloaded from people on twitter who shared their brushes via google drive haha
