A battle takes place between the US Army and allies against primarily Lakota and Cheyenne during the Great Sioux War of 1876. It is known as the Battle of the Rosebud or the Battle Where the Girl Saved her Brother due to an incident involving Buffalo Road Calf Woman, who is said to have killed General George Armstrong Custer in the Battle of the Greasy Grass (Little Bighorn).

The DeBruce Grain Elevator near Wichita, Kansas explodes after the grain dust ignites. Seven men are killed. It is one of the deadliest grain dust explosions in US history.
