Pairing: Raphael x Reader (TMNT 2014-16)
Warnings: Â Blood, angst.
Many times you had been up, beside Raphael in bed either reading a book or watching the tv with low volume, and not once had you heard him mumble in his sleep.
But now he was, as he lay there on the couch with you and his head in your lap. Â It stopped you from reading your book, leading your (e/c) eyes down to him; his head was bobbing back and forth and sounded as if he was in distress.
Dreaming, you thought. Â You resumed your reading.
But then Raphâs head suddenly jerked upwards, frightening you to where you finally closed your book and placed a hand on his plastron to attempt to calm him. Â However, your attempts didnât work, because the spasms began to get worse and it also began to frighten you. Â You set your book aside and had your undivided attention on Raphael; he would have to be woken soon if it got too serious. Â Even his mumbling had gotten louder.
Your eyes never left him.
Raph screamed out your name as he rounded a corner of a street. Â The pavement was wet, and you get that fear that if you took the wrong step your were going down on your ass, your mind tricking you that the gleams of the water were actually ice.
There was a slight breeze, cool and crisp as it hit Raphaelâs nose, the end tails of his bandana trailed behind him. Â He was in a dead sprint for he was desperately trying to find you; he didnât exactly understand how he got where he was, but his gut was telling him to fin you. Â He somehow knew you were in trouble. Â Raphâs legs carried him faster down the empty street.
It was rather cold there. Â The mist blocked all view from either side of you the further you moved along. Â Raph spotted out a few buildings here and there but everything was clearly deserted, even the smell was old and musty. Â Grass and weeds grew in between the cracks of the sidewalk, and there were even some parts of the cement that were missing or broken off and thrown into the street.
It felt like Raph had been running for hours.
But he stopped once he heard the sudden sound of clanging metal ring through his ears; the echoes became more quicker and louder, repeating contact over and over again. Â His head swiveled in every direction as the sound rang from all around him. Â He couldnât tell which way it was emanating from, so he just decided to run further on in the hopes that he would find you there. Â He prayed that it wasnât you fighting. Â He moved on.
Finally, after what seemed like endless hours of running, and surprisingly not getting tired, Raphael noticed the clanging was getting louder the more he ran. Â It was nearby, ahead of him really. Â He skidded to a halt.
Raphâs green eyes spotted the orange sparks from scraping metal fly through the mist, illuminating specks of light in little areas. Â He spotted two figures, but they were dim and not in color; he could only make out the shapes. Â He was right that they were in battle, but he didnât know what for. Â Frankly, he wasnât worried about who was winning, only to know who the hell they were and where he was. Â Skidding to a halt, Raphael watched frantically as the feet drew nearer to him.
â(Y/n)!?â Â he called out. Â Raph waited for one of the figures to answer, but nothing was returned to him; he watched and waited for it to end.
Eventually though, the figures came close enough to him that they were finally shown in the light, the one area that no mist lingered. Â Both were covered with cloaks so it was impossible to tell who was who, though it was clear on what weapon they were using.
One had a very thing sword, one you would see from the Middle Ages, used by Kings and Knights. Â The other was using, what appeared to be, sais. Â Those were a pair of sais in their hands.
Raph couldnât believe it. Â Those were his! Â He spotted the red cloth wrapped around the handles of each one, and even his own were missing from his belt. Â
As if time had skipped, the only thing Raph could see now was a river of wet colored water running under his feet. Â His green eyes looked up to see one the figures, bloodied and exhausted, laying on the cold pavement. Â It then began to pour the rain, and soon both were drenched; Raphael repeatedly wiped the rain from his brow. Â The other figure however, was gone, as was the mist, revealing dim lights from broken houses on the sides of the walkways.
Raph slowly approached the figure, taking both of his weapons back and sheathing them to his belt. Â He then dropped to his knees and reluctantly began to inspect the body. Â It was visible to him that they were still alive, their chest rising up and down ever so slowly and roughly. Â They were coughing up blood; the gurgling of the red substance was audible as it flooded their lungs. Â A green and scaly hand reached for the hood to draw it back.
â⊠N-no.  No!  NO!â
The figure in the darkened shroud, was you.  Your breath so shallow, blood flooding your mouth, cuts on every part of your face, and ⊠a gaped, cut, and hollow hole through your abdomen.  Your clothing was more soaked from the blood than the rain itself.  (E/c) eyes barely open, barely visible to your love.  Raph lowered himself more closely to you, one hand on your open wound, and the other under your head.  Now not only was water dripping off of him, tears had joined the fall as well.  Each drop hit your face, washing away your own.
Raphaelâs voice was so coarse by then as he choked up so many tears, watching the life and breath fade away from you one second at a time. Â He couldnât form any words, except only to be there until your final moment. Â
He wasnât ready for when your hand slowly moved itâs way up to his face, and Raph was quick to place his own over it and lean into your touch. Â It was still so warm, and yet, everything else seemed so cold.
âI-â you try to say, but only resulting in failure. Â Blood pooled out of your mouth again, and Raph choked out more tears.
It was clear to him, that your final breath, had let itself free. Â With your mouth agape, eyes still open and body limp, you had been washed away by the rain. Â You had left the world, you had left your pain, you left him.
Shutting his eyes, Raph slowly bent down to kiss you on your forehead; he crashed onto your chest.
The torrential downpour then came.
It startled you the way he woke, for it was hard for him to catch his breath and actually form words. Â His eyes were so lost, scared, and they searched every crevice of the room for something. Â for you. Â Now sitting up and those green eyes staring every so longingly at you, your heart was ripped from your chest as you heard his breath catch in his throat. Â He was crying.
Raphael didnât even say anything; you were in his arms for what seemed like hours, he wasnât letting go. Â His hand rubbed your back, tangling your hair with his hands as he sobbed into your shoulder, wetting your clothing and leaving you now terrified. Â You whisper to him softly;
âRaph, itâs okay. Â Whatever it was, it wasnât real.â
You being to pull away to look him in the eye, but Raph has got an absolute grip on you. Â You werenât going anywhere.
âBabe, look at me, please⊠.â you say again.
Ever so slowly, Raph kept his head low but still pulled away enough for your eyes to meet his. Â They were filled to the brim with tears. Â He felt both of your hands rest on the sides of his face, and a wave of relief washed over him.
âIt was just a dream,â you say again, giving him a loving kiss.
He eventually managed to choke out a few words, though they were choppy and hard to hear. Â
âYou⊠. you were right there, in my arms, dying, then dead.  You- you⊠gone.  I couldnât-â
Raphael watched as you took one of his hands and placed it on your chest.
âDo you feel this?â you say. Â His hand was feeding off the vibrations of your chest, of your heartbeat, something he could not hear or feel in his dream. Â It was there, warm and rhythmic, soothing to his touch. Â Raph closed his eyes as his head fell to your chest, and you arms instantly wrapped around his shoulders. Â It was there. Â Your heartbeat was there, beating along with his.Â
âI love you,â he says. Â Those three words were repeated continuously, growing more dim and silent as time went by, until his tears washed him away into a now peaceful slumber with you right there watching over him.
