And Troy never once even considered blaming him.

Personally I think it's because Troy doesn't really see as Nick having enough agency to have chosen to do so. It's like he said in that deleted scene "you don't strike me as someone who does shit. [...] you're someone that shit's done to" - he sees Nick not as acting in those instances but reacting. Pushed into a corner with no other way out. No, he wouldn't blame him for that, when he himself knows all to well what it is to be pushed into a corner. Ironically, the kinship he feels towards Nick is irrevocably tied to the people he lost. What a tangled web their relationship is
