Still trembling, she shook her head yes before hiding her face in Peppers tummy. “I want you to be my mommy.” She said softly, biting her lip before looking up at her. “I get it if you dunnwanna.” She said with tears in her eyes.

Pepper gently moved Maria, lifting her chin, "Maria" she raised a hand to wipe to tears that started to roll down the child's cheeks. Just looking at her made Pepper emotional, almost crying herself, "I would love to be your mommy" She said quietly with a stifled sob.

Gulping, she walked forward towards Pepper and climbed up on top of the chair, biting her lip as she trembled. “I…I need to ask you swomething. But I’m scared too.” She said, whispering the last part out.

Pepper frowned, holding out her arms to pull the toddler into her lap, “Maria, honey, you know you can ask me anything” She explained softly, starting to braid Maria’s hair, listening carefully.

Pepper let go of Maria's hair, shifting so she could see the girl's face, "Do you...want me to be?" She asked quietly, covering her smile with her hand.

After her Dada explained what he and Pepper did and their engagement, Maria crawled onto her small bed as she bit her lip. She fidgeted for a few moments before her anxiety got the better of her as she got up and walked slowly to where she knew Pepper was, trembling slightly with fear.

What if she said no? A voice in the back of her mind said as Maria paused, biting her lip as she peeked around the doorway, looking at Pepper’s face, the happiness etched onto it.

Clearing her throat, she lifted a trembling arm up to the door and knocked like she had seen her Dada do before.

"Peppah?"

Pepper kept looking down at her hand, admiring the ring on her finger. It wasn't the style or the money it must have costed--although she was sure it was pretty expensive, knowing Tony's taste. She was interrupted by a small knock on the door, head turning to see who it was.

"Hi Maria" She said happily. Pepper gave the spot next to her a pat so that Maria would come sit with her, "Do you need something?"

[Blinks at her a few times before breaking out into a smile] Really? [Takes the ring out of the box and slides it onto her ring finger before stepping up to pull her to him and kiss her tenderly] I love you.

[Smiles against his lips] You think I'd say no? [Steals another kiss before looking down at her hand, the ring gleaming in the light perfectly] Proof that Tony Stark has a heart...in more ways than one.

[Steps up and gets on one knee, looking at her] Pepper…will you marry me? [He held out the box, a look in his eye that he couldn’t even identify]

[Stops, covering her mouth, obviously shocked by the display, almost feeling tears well up in her eyes again, trying not to keep him waiting too long] I... [She started to say, stepping closer to him] I'm sorry I doubted you, Tony...I...

[Takes a deep breath, trying to regain composure] Well...it's not often that I become speechless... [Looks at Tony with a smile, blinking softly at him] I would...love to marry you, Tony.
