Over 20 years ago I wrote a book about my broken home and running away to live in London. For reasons of privacy I changed all the names and turned my own character into a goth boy named Jamie. The "B." comes from my own last name.
After friends read the script they started calling me Jamie. Even my own sister. For years. I still have mail in that name.
Last November someone told me about this guy that "looks like you" and he kept showing up in my IG suggestions. I researched and found out that his name is Jamie B. as well, and I found photos over photos of him where he looks like me at different stages in my life. Like this one.
I knew eventually I was going to have to meet him and see what this is all about. And now we did meet, and then even again later that same day when fate seated us next to each other on a train to Paris where I live part-time. In the same neighbourhood he frequents too, and that is featured in many of his own photos.
We talked about Paris and I even showed him the original manuscript of my book and the side-by-side photos and he said "This is so wild". We even have the same mannerisms.
I gave him a ring and he was still wearing it last Saturday. I wonder how many times through the years and in how many cities we may have crossed paths, without meeting. Until now.
