Seeing criticism of Jim carrey’s metaphysical bs is so validating… that video IRKS me because it’s so easy for old rich white men to be into ego death/the idea that everything is meaningless. It’s such an easy escape from examining their position of power. And you can tell that his spirituality doesn’t centre compassion because of how he engages w the reporter…. he is attempting to create a dichotomy bw him as enlightened and her as a mindless dupe, as well as ppl who engage w fashion week (who are mostly women….). The idea of people being either conscious or unconscious is itself an ego trap.

I feel this about eckhart tolle as well. If these ppl really felt no separation between themselves and the entirety of existence, energy fields, whatever, how could they hold onto their millions of dollars knowing entire countries could benefit from a fraction of their net worth? The majority of people on this planet are just trying to survive, not “wake up” to the “metaphysical reality of existence”. Imo it is far more fulfilling to centre spiritual practice around doing all you can to reduce suffering (and developing a metaphysical relationship to the world thru that) rather than this idea of being “on another level” which actually separates and alienates you from other people
