Macklin is reclining against the kitchen counter. The silence is covered by the sound of nature outside, a ray of light ripples through the window and hits near the sink. The air is cool for the hour. In reality, it is a beautiful view, although not so beautiful now that Will wasn’t there.

He remembers the week in Vancouver as an epiphany. He had dreamed about it more times than would be prudent to admit for the sake of his own sanity; now, however, his desires were occupied by a house in San Jose.

It is easy for him to imagine the same sun winding its way through the kitchen tiles, the invisible motes of dust dancing in the air, Will behind his back with his hands around his waist humming some silly song (because he always wakes up with one and doesn’t remember the lyrics). The aroma of coffee invades everything. It rises between their bodies, settles in a wet kiss that lands on the skin of Macklin’s neck, and all he can think is yes, yes, yes. I want this with you.

Will wants and wants and wants, and he’s never permitted himself to crave anything other than hockey as fiercely as he does Mack right now. It makes sense that Mack and hockey are the only exceptions to all of his rules, because Mack is hockey and hockey is Mack and there’s a hole inside Will that only those two can fill. Will has spent so long stopping himself, controlling himself, and now, he wants to let go. He wants to let the dam break loose, to let the rushing current take everything with it.

a lot of people are so smut-focused that they’ll read fics where that is clearly not the focus and feel entitled towards dynamic tags. if it’s a pwp or smut is in a larger part of the story/prevalent, then i get it. but if you read a work that is clearly meant to be plot heavy, then maybe just maybe they author didn’t feel the need to tag it for that reason.

i can’t imagine putting so much effort into writing something with substance and plot… only for someone to to say ‘ugh it was ruined bc it was *insert dynamic* instead’… like keep that shit to yourself!!?

it costs NOTHING to just close out of a fic and move on with your day. ntm it’s a CHOICE to read a fic that doesn’t have dynamic tags, the cage is made out of paper. you can be annoyed, but to post, ask, or comment about is corny asf and rude.

absolutely. if you have a favorite dynamic and you don’t want to get jumpscared by reading something you’re not into, it’s as simple as checking the tags. it’s not tagged but you liked the plot??? read at your own risk. maybe you’re missing out on something that actually does fit your tastes??? that’s the risk you take when you choose to read or not read untagged fics.
