One of my favorite aspects of Smile Precure and one of the reasons why it’s my favorite season in the Pretty Cure franchise is the dynamic amongst the Cures. They feel like a legitimate group of friends, not teammates telling the audiences that they are friends or a group of followers. I noticed that in some seasons, every time all the Cures are gathered (until an extra member joins them later) they would have a bonding episode or two that follows right after but the rest of the series don’t really emphasize, reflect, or cement their bonds beyond those said episodes. We basically have to accept them as buds for life afterwards. It just feels like a prerequisite, rather than a group of individuals who are becoming genuine friends. Not helped that in some occasions, the team or story itself will treat one or two character as the central figure(s) of focus, leaving the unlucky Cures in the dust.

The Smile team as a whole feels balanced as they all have a chance to shine and equally have really cool powers. While the story is simplistic and can get monotonous at times, it gives the opportunity to make the season more character driven and see their traits bounce off from each other. It’s the reason why they remained as one of the most beloved teams in the franchise despite their simple story.

Omg yes!

Despite being seen as the most “simple” out of the Precure series, there’s no denying that the characters, especially the Smile team, shine through within this season, both in dynamics with the each other and their individual personalities and spotlight that drive their series as a whole. Goes to show that even the even the most “simplest and slice-of-life” season among most Precure series can have the best characters and team if done well 😊

Maybe procrastinating on break after vacation and still working on some artworks of mine. But I do wanted to showcase some moodboards of my main six of Battle Doll Fantasista I made on Canvas since they’re just laying there on the shelf.

Also may have gotten a bit whimsy compared with my Selenic oc moodboards, but at the same time, it adds in some neat details to them as well :3

AND I"M BACK!!! Just manage to rest up a bit after my two-week vacation from Alaska and Canada and I'm now here to catch up on some art pieces that I did but never posted on here due to irl stuff.

Especially a SR oc birthday finished before Independence Day with Kana as the star coming up fresh from the oven with not only a watercolor style artwork but also some ✨backstory lore✨

As previously mentioned, Kanata has been a lover for music and singing, but that very passion she has all started with her mother, Kanade, who is a musician back before her marriage. In fact, out of the heartwarming relationships Kanade spends her time with her family and friends, cherishing every moment with them, she and Kanata has the most beautiful and closest one out of all, due to her daughter having to inherit her love of music and singing. (They have a relationship based on Suzu and her mother from Belle)

As such, during her childhood, both of them would often sing together in equal harmony, and in other times teaching Kana how to play their instruments; the acoustics guitar Kanade had who be the predecessor to Kanata’s signature aqua green bass.

And still to that day, Kanata still carries that melodic passion in her second year in Kizuki Academy…

Even after her mother’s untimely death…

Some design ideas for Epic Au anon’s DL oc, Hitoshi, aka Kocho’s boyfriend, cuz while I know that they’re busy with their own life outside online, I feel like pitching in some design thoughts for Hitoshi in case they have trouble in putting his design.

Which speaking of, in having to read his appearance description in Kocho’s profile in which he’s “as basic as possible” it makes me think of the Kodaka protagonists, especially the male ones, who are designed to be as “basic” in terms of appearance and personality to the target audience. Yet at the same time, they’re also distinctive enough to be recognizable and memorable to said audience thanks to their unique design and character traits.

Heck, after having to think of this idea, I ahead to making Hitoshi’s design which I based it on from Makoto Naegi from Danganronpa Trigger Happy Havoc cuz his design definitely aligns to Hitoshi’s description, alongside some elements of Takumi Sumino from Hundred Line Academy, Aether from Genshin Impact and Tanjiro Kamado from Demon Slayer (these last two being quite obvious due to Kocho being inspired by Kanae Tsuyuri and the fact that both boys have the same Eng voice actor).

Again, that’s just how I see what Hitoshi’s design would look like in my interpretation, and if Epic Au anon is okay or not with this idea of mine then that’s perfectly okay with me. Like I said, just laying design some design ideas for Hitoshi in case they have trouble.

As a reminder, July is disability pride month! This pride month, I want us to especially think of:

Those with long-term/worsened disabilities because of their parents telling them to just work through it/get over it/"it's not that bad"

Those with disabilities stemming from childhood abuse

Those who know that they're disabled or suspect such, but can't get it diagnosed or checked out because of their parents/guardians disapproving

Those who know/suspect that they're disabled, but won't be diagnosed or checked out because they're "too young"

Those who struggle in or had to drop out of the harsh and mostly unaccommodating school system because of their disability or disabilities

Those who were lied to or not told they were disabled growing up so they could be raised "normal"

Those who have their privacy and autonomy violated as a combination of being disabled and being a child, as both of those groups are seen as not deserving their autonomy

Those who are disabled or had their disability (or disabilities) worsened because of the school system pushing them too far

Those who feel that they can never be one of the "normal" kids and that they'll always be isolated because of their disability or disabilities

Disabled folks who don't know or didn't know much about their disability as a kid because doctors would only explain to the parents/caretakers and no one bothered to talk to you

All disabled children having to deal with the intersectuality of being oppressed by both ableism and adultism.

Happy disability pride month and please start treating children and disabled people with basic respect and dignity!! They are autonomous beings! Act like it!

🌙✨ Moonlight Stargazing ✨🌙

Already had a head start on finishing this drawing yesterday. And today is the day I showcase this to you!

June 30th maybe the birthday of fellow magical girls, Cure La Mer of Tropical Rouge and the titular heroine of her own series, Sailor Moon. But it’s also the birthday of my buddyfight oc, Rin! 🌙✨💙 Plus, it’s been awhile since I’ve drawn her given I’ve been very busy with vacation and wips. And I also felt like wanting to update her design a bit after looking at her initial design (which I don’t like it as of now and will probably show her new design in the future 🙁) and practicing in more landscapes, which leads me to doing both for this occasion. Plus adding in the colors of the moon as a meta touch to the latest discovery of the moon.

Either way, I really like how this piece turns out as I haven’t done a starry night artwork since last year, and given Rin happens to be connected to the moon, I think it would be a neat detail for her to be into stargazing as well ⭐️

Oh! Didn’t mention this until now.

But today is also my dad’s birthday due to the fact his and mine’s yesterday are right next to each other. Hence why the word double centered next to happy birthday. And since I wanted to make something different for today, I’ve gone with a realistic style on digital watercolors.

Yes I said it. I also do realism as well and trust me that I also don’t like it as much as you do except for certain occasions. 😓 But at least for me it’s a good drawing exercise to practice on.
