i’m so glad that i’m like 10 years late to ace’s death so i knew that it was coming when i came to that chapter

it still wrecked me but it would’ve been 1000000x worse if i had been blindsided by it

his death was not even necessary to move the plot forward.... fight me on that.... oda’s editor was allegedly against ace dying in the war and i 1000000% agree.... 

sabo is a poor man’s ace, a cheap replacement that will never live up to the original

i just feel like it was a waste of a good character that oda didn’t do as much as he could have with as evidenced by the posthumous novel. it was just oda trying to subvert cliches by having the rescue mission utterly fail. 

his death didn’t make me sympathize with luffy for his loss on the contrary i found myself begrudging the fact that he’s the main character and therefore have plot armor out the ass. i find ace to a much more compelling character, if you’re gonna kill him off at least give him enough plot to work with to justify the design and background you’ve given him, if not just leave him in luffy’s backstory with the rest of the emotional deaths. 

like the waste of potential was just annoying. give me like a couple of cool, plot relevant fights why don’t you instead of building up the reveal then have him get captured in his first and only fight. what a waste of a cool character design! it felt like inviting someone over, waiting all day for them only to have them ring your doorbell and run away.
