I wanna hold your hand (Max imagine)
A/N: I’m so, so sorry to hear about Max’ tragic loss. Losing pets will always be hard, but especially because he and Ronnie got so little time together. I wish more than ever that this writing could come true. xx
“It’ll be okay.” You whisper to the shaking form of your best friend as he curls up on the couch.
He looks up at you, his grey eyes full of tears, but doesn’t respond otherwise. You bite your lip because those words sound so hollow and empty. Ofcourse it’ll be okay - but that doesn’t take away that Max is hurting as hell right now.
You take a deep breath to calm yourself and you try to be a source of comfort for him. “It’s just the same as with humans Max. Some will die at a ripe age, and some -”
“Will die when they’re barely even adult yet.” Max interrupts you harshly.
You nod. “Sadly, yes. And I know this won’t make it better, but he had a splendid life with you. You gave him the best life he could wish for.”
“His life would be even better if he didn’t die.” Max says bitterly.
“I know.” You say softly. You’re unsure of what else to say, so you sit next to him in silence.
“You know the worst part?” He asks after a while in a calm voice. You shake your head.
“I see him everywhere. I see him when I’m in the kitchen in the hope he gets a snack. I see him when I sit on the couch, sleeping and wiggling his paws in a weird way because he’s probably chasing a cat in his dreams. I see him running around the room as I put my shoes because he always knew exactly when it was time for his daily walk. And it hurts so much.”
His voice breaks at the last word and you look next to you just in time to see fresh tears running across his cheeks.
“Oh Max.” You sigh and you put your arms around him. For once, it’s not his broad arms comforting you but the other way around. You try to pour all of your love into this hug. “I wish I could make it better.”
“This makes it better.” He says rather muffled. “Not much, but it helps.”
You sit there for a while, still with your arms around him, until he breaks away. He dries his eyes and takes his phone out with a sort of determination. “I’m going to fill the internet with my undying love for him.”
“That’s good.” You nod as you walk to the kitchen to stick the kettle on. You figure out Max needs it now. You discovered some time ago that every kind of heartbreak needs some love, hugs and tea. Whether you’ve broken up or lost someone dear to you, friends can make it better.
