Do I have something on my face?
“Kids will laugh at any and everything! So, don’t worry. Nothing is on your face!”
ethanxmonroe:
“It’s gotta be,” Ethan said, his expression excited and interested as the woman went on and by the end of her little walk through her career, Ethan was grinning broadly at her. “It sounds like you found something that truly fulfills you and god knows that’s the most important thing,” he told her, smiling because he knew that kind of passion from his own experience. Once she’d cut herself off, Ethan’s soft smile soon grew back into his signature bright grin. “You gotta come see it before it closes!” The older male urged, filled with pride because after all, the show sold well and had definitely become something people talked about. “It’s so much fun,” Ethan confirmed. “And I know some people just say that but I truly feel so incredibly blessed being able to work on that show - it’s incredible and so are the people working along with me,” he told her before nodding quickly. “Oh yeah! I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better job because while the general idea for the looks were there, I still got to give them my own twist and it’s just been…,” Ethan trailed off, trying to find a word to describe his experience on the show, “it’s just been a dream come true, really.”
“Oh, that really is amazing! Honestly, I wish I had a creative bone in my body. Some of the things people do with makeup is astounding!” she smiled brightly at her companion. She did have some envy for those who were creative. When it came to artistry, the best she could do was draw a stick figure that was questionable at best. “I will certainly look into snagging a ticket for the show soon. Like I said, it’s been so long since I’ve gone to a show. I think the last one I saw was Wicked and that was ages ago! I keep telling myself that I should go see Chicago or Kinky Boots, but then I get distracted by work or the kiddo. But now since I know someone with the production I’ll have to show my support for sure!” As soon as Tyler finished her sentence, the sounds of a train on the tracks began to echo around them, “Sounds like our ride is almost here.”
serenacovington:
“Kinder than I would have been, honestly. I was mostly making bets with myself as to how long it would take before they either made it work or gave up. My final thought was that they were going to give up until you came along,” Serena hummed, pushing of from her spot on the railing, “Unfortunately, my train isn’t for another fifteen and now my source of entertainment is gone. I need to find the homeless man who plays the wooden spoon and plastic tub. Now there is real entertainment.”
“Sounds to me like I just helped upgrade you to the true source of entertainment here,” Tyler grinned at the stranger, “the guy with the spoons is the main reasons to even come down here, honestly. He drops a sick beat.” She let out a small chuckle, “Sorry for ruining your internal betting game. Though, I think if given enough time the guy might’ve tried to jump the gate. You never know!”
Don’t underestimate the need for strong, flawed and relatable female role models for girls and women alike on TV.
ethanxmonroe:
“The pleasure’s all mine,” Ethan replied, flashing Tyler a friendly smile before he pulled back as well, walking along with the young woman. He focused back on her, listening intently before he raised a brow in suprise. “No fucking way! That’s a big deal - hell, you’re an important part of the team then, huh?” He asked, grinning widely. “I gotta admit, I’m more of a football guy usually but I sure enjoy a good baseball game,” he added, still impressed with the woman’s career. “Are you having fun with it?” He asked before a laugh escaped him. “Oh, there’s nothing wrong with prying, I was just as curious,” he joked, merely teasing her. “I’m a makeup artist,” Ethan told her. “I work on a Broadway show right now - The Fame Monster? But I got some other projects going on, otherwise I wouldn’t have a reason to travel all the way to the Bronx,” the male explained.
Tyler let out a small chuckle, “It’s a great job— my dream job really! I’ve been a fan of baseball and the Yankees since I was a kid. Getting a job like this with a pro team is incredibly difficult, I feel like I really lucked out! Being one of the people who helps makes sure that the players are tip top shape and safe, just means the world to me!” Her passion for her work was very clear, she could honestly go on for hours about it and sport she loved. But she would cut herself off there for that very reason. But quickly, Tyler found herself getting excited once more, “The Fame Monster? That’s amazing! I’ve seen advertisements all over for that. Gosh, I haven’t been to a Broadway show in so long. It must be a blast to actually be working behind the scenes of a show? Do you get any creative freedoms when it comes to the makeup?”
evelyn-phettson:
Evelyn felt something click inside her head. “You really think those women would buy these clothes or rather, I suppose the men would buy the dresses for them if I’m understanding what you are saying.” Guess those kind of relationshps still existed nowadays, the ones where the man just spoiled a girl endlessly. Evelyn perferred to buy whatever she wanted herself, never exactly relying on a man to do it for her. Although her father did buy her many things as a child, he wasn’t the best male influence she had. “What type of clothing style would you reccomend if someone were to say, come out with a line of clothing specially designed for the average tomboy?” She questioned, always willing to gather information about fashion whenever she got the chance.
"I don’t know about the guys buying these for their ladies, some of them wouldn’t know good fashion if it ran up to kick them in the face. In fact, I know for sure that at least three of them need their wives to pick out their clothes when they aren’t in uniform,” Tyler said with a laugh. At the woman’s next question, Tyler had to give pause and think. A beat of silence passed before Tyler gave her answer, “Good question. Perhaps a series of tops, shorts, and pants that are all interchangeable. Like you can mix and match to create different outfits with ease. I personally like not having to put much thought into my outfit. I tend to stick to either earthy tones or neutrals so most of my clothing can match up together no matter what. Comfort is, of course, a must. Also, I personally dig some Bohemian vibes as well.” She looked over at the woman with a smile, “And I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that you’re a fashion designer?”
everettxandrews:
“Where are you from originally?” He asked though her story wasn’t unusual a lot of people weren’t natives of New York and were transplants from other cities. Once you came to the big apple it was hard to be anywhere else. Everett knew he couldn’t move back home after two years in the city. “Where did you go to school? NYU?” It was the one that popped into his head first, as he was sure for a lot of other people. “Yeah, that sounds about right for New York City. And taxi driver’s honking at you when they have a red light and you’re crossing the street. Though really how many people wait for the lights to change. You wouldn’t get anywhere.” He smiled though at the genuine thought to her paying it forward idea. She seemed like one of the few people who truly just did something to be nice. “Will just assume that's what happened. It makes for a nice happily ever after story to the day.”
"Oh, I’m from Larchmont. A village just north of the Bronx. So, I wasn’t too far from the city, but my family and I didn’t come down here too often— honestly, we only ever came down to catch a baseball game. The city is a bit too much for my parents. And yes, I did go to NYU!” Tyler let out a laugh at the mention of the taxi drivers. Entirely true. They would honk for everything, even when you had the right of the way, “hell, pedestrians aren’t waiting for the light to change either. As long as there’s no cars speeding down towards you, might as well haul ass across the street!” Tyler smiled at the man, “Yes, let’s stick to the happily ever after version. I enjoy that so much more.” Sticking out her hand, she offered it to the man before her, “I’m Tyler, by the way.”
ethanxmonroe:
Ethan snorted at the woman’s words. “You know what - you’re actually completely right. I gotta admit, I’ve been living here for years but even I was shocked you stepped up and helped him out,” he joked, an amused grin tugging on his lips. Looking back at her, Ethan had waited instead of running off once he’d passed the gate, after all, he had some time to kill anyways and even though he was on his way to a meeting, there was no rush. He’d always liked being early anyways rather than too late. His brows raised at her question and the male gave her another smile. “Actually, I am! I got a meeting a few blocks away so it looks like we’re gonna be stuck with each other for a bit,” Ethan informed her jokingly before pulling a face. “I’d hope they wouldn’t dare to and I assure you, I’m not one of them either,” he said with a laugh, extending his hand in a friendly manner. “I’m Ethan by the way.” He figured that if they were going to spend the ride together, he might as well let her know his name. “What are you doing at the Yankee Stadium if you don’t mind me asking? Today’s not a game day, is it?” Ethan wondered.
She accepted the extended hand and gave it a single firm shake, “I’m Tyler. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Ethan.”
She released his hand and walked along side him towards where the train would be pulling up any minute. She gave her new subway companion a smile and shook her head at his question, “Not a game day here, but the team is playing in Cincinnati tonight. I’m an athletic trainer for the team and I’m working with some college students over at the stadium today. Someone has got to prep the summer interns!” The brunette inclined her head towards Ethan, “And what is it that you do? Not that I mean to pry. Just curious!”
everettxandrews:
“Yeah, I think it’s generally a really good theory to have. I kind of feel like being here in New York you don’t get that as much. Everyone’s always in a rush to get from one place to another, a New York minute, and paying it forward doesn’t always happen.” He spoke while at the same time swiped his own card to follow her through the gate. “You turned his frown upside down and hopefully he goes out and does something now. Maybe even just holding the door open for some little old lady or something. I don’t even know. But I like the idea that it sparks a wave of things happening.”
“The locals here aren’t really known for their hospitality. I didn’t grow up in the city, but I moved here for college. My first day running around I accidentally bumped into someone and was promptly told to go fuck myself,” despite the negative story, Tyler was still smiling, “I don’t want to be that sort of person. But, yeah, I hope it acts like the domino effect. He goes and does something nice for someone and then that person does something ice for someone else and so on. It’s a happy thought!”
evelyn-phettson:
A slight surprise looked came to her face before she shrugged. “Oh I see, are you more into the tomboyish sort of style? Nothing wrong with that, I prefer women who wear men’s clothes but a touch of femininity is also attractive.” But overall, she preferred to see people wearing her brand of clothing rather than anything else. New York was a goldmine for that, but between all the different competitors you had, you only really got a thin slice of gold. Though Evelyn made plenty of money from her work, somehow it never felt like enough. “Still, these dresses are worth quite a lot of money. Would be very good for a business lunch or perhaps some over the top party.” All things she was more than used to and enjoyed to a certain point. She focused her attention back on the dolls, noticing small little hints like how they were positioned and how the dress hung off their body in different ways. Shame you didn’t see any plus size mannequins, Evelyn would need to introduce some plus sized beauty designs eventually.
“Tomboyish? Yeah, I suppose that’s one way to describe my style. I tend to prefer comfort over fashion, in all honesty,” Tyler said kindly. She did hope she wasn’t irritating this woman by not being more excited about the clothing in the window display. She had been genuine when she said the dresses were lovely— because they truly were. They just didn’t suit Tyler, was all. “Unfortunately, business lunches don’t really come into play where I work and I don’t have much time for parties. Although,” she was quick to add, “I’m sure some of the wives and girlfriends of some of the guys I work with would absolutely adore these clothes. It would really be right up their alley.”
everettxandrews:
The New York subway was already an interesting experience when you were in the city. There was almost every walks of life down there. Tourists had to ride at least once to get the full experience of being in the Big Apple. But for those who didn’t take it every day, sure it could be a bit complicated as the one tourist found out as their card refused to work. It wasn’t every day you had a stranger swipe their card to let that person go through on their dime. It was a small act but probably meant the world to the other. He wasn’t looking to take advantage, “I wasn’t.” he held his hand where between his index and middle finger he held the flimsy piece of plastic for his own card. “I was just going to say that was nice of you to do that for them. I think you made their day.”
“I was only teasing,” she said with a smile to the man behind her. Well, she had been partially teasing. She was half serious, at least about not running a charity. Tyler found herself shrugging at the mention of her deed being nice. She hadn’t done it for any sort of gratification, but merely because it seemed like the right thing to do at the time. Plus, she had felt genuinely bad for the person and their troubles. “That’s what I’m hoping. That it made their day a little better,” she spoke as she swiped her card and passed through the gate, “Pay it forward and all that, you know?”
ethanxmonroe:
Ethan was watching the woman interact with the unlucky person in front of them with an almost amused smile on his lips because somehow he was reminded of his first few days in the city where he was just as clueless as the person who was, without any luck, trying to get through the gate. He hadn’t even registered that he’d been blatantly staring until he locked eyes with the young woman who grinned back at him. A laugh rumbled from Ethan’s chest at her warning and he shook his head quickly, holding up his hands in defense, one of them holding his own metro card. “God, no! Don’t worry! I pay for my own rides,” he told her with a wink and swiped his card through the slot to get through the gate, turning to face her from the other side. “It was a nice gesture though, that poor guy seemed pretty lost. I have a feeling he would’ve stood there swiping his card for another hour if you hadn’t helped him out.”
Tyler was still grinning as she looked at the man from the other side of the gate, with a shrug she spoke, “I’m sure he would’ve figured it out eventually, but I did figure the good Samaritan in me need some time in the sun. Besides, it probably shocked the hell out of him that a New Yorker actually stopped to help. And that amuses me immensely.”
The brunette swiped her own metro card once more and made her way through the gate. She stepped in front of the stranger. He certainly seemed nice enough. Perhaps he was heading her way? Might be nice not to sit silently on the subway for once and have someone to chat with. “Wouldn’t happen to be heading in the direction of the Yankee Stadium, would you?” she asked as she made her way around the man, “Would be nice to have someone to talk to for the long ride. Even nicer not to be hit on by strange men on the train when they see me alone.”

Was this person a tourist? Had to be with the way they were swiping that metro card and having zero luck getting through the gate. It was a bit sad really. Especially when they let out the most frustrating noise. She couldn’t help but take pity on their poor soul then. They were definitely someone who had never ridden a subway in New York before. Might as well pay it forward. Walking up behind them, Tyler swiped her own metro card and gave the tourist a gentle nudge through the gate with a quick ‘you’re welcome’ tact on for good measure. Taking a glance behind her, Tyler found her eyes locked with a person nearby who had witnessed her little act of kindness. Tyler grinned, “Don’t get any ideas, buddy. You’ll be paying for your own subway ride. I’m not running a charity here.”
evelyn-phettson:
“Aren’t they beautiful?” Evelyn stood outside a display window, inside where three mannequin dolls and each one was wearing her latest design, something she was quite proud of. “Tell me, do you think you or a special lady you know of would be willing to wear those dresses? Or even perhaps a drag queen, I don’t tend to judge.” She spoke quickly and straight the point, though she was confident with her work. When it came to the public’s eye, she was a little nervous.
Tyler gave pause. Was this lady talking to her? She took a quick glance around. She was the only one standing there— and this woman was looking right at her. Tyler gave a polite smile, hoping she hadn’t come off as rude just half a second ago in her confusion. Quickly, the brunette stepped up to the display window of the boutique and peered at the dresses, taking them in before turning her gaze back to the woman standing beside her. Tyler weighed her words before she spoke. This woman seemed a bit excited about these dresses and Tyler would rather not disappoint her.
“Honestly?” she started— figuring that was the best way to go about this conversation, “they aren’t really my style. I like my jeans and t-shirts. However, they are lovely. I suppose if I absolutely had to wear a dress for some reason, I would go for something like these.”
