"Don't make me come over there, James."
“But I didn’t do anything? What do I have something in my teeth?” He blinked and wondered what the hell she was talking about.
Meg raised an eyebrow, closing her book. Standing, she slowly walked over to where James was sitting. As she approached, she ran a hand through her hair. “Relax; I’m just messing with you,“ she said as she sat next to him and picked up the makeshift toy that was on the floor and waved it around for Loki, who jumped at it with a tiny yowl.
He chuckled. “Yeah I figured as much…” He watched the tiny kitten play with the toy. “So how are those….task things going?” He looked up to her. “I mean I would have participated but….Yeah…No.”
“No?” She wiggled her fingers to grab Loki’s attention once more. Looking at James, she spoke again. “Things are progressing, for sure. Kal treats me well, though I feel like he won’t let me pull my weight.” Then she scratched the back of her neck shyly. “Though I won’t complain too hard; so far things haven’t been too pleasant.”
“I’m not suited for deadly demigod tasks. It’s not my thing.” He shrugged. “You know?” He looked to her. “From what I saw from my window you looked pretty good out there but that’s just my thoughts.” He was also hiding the fact he was watching anime to pass the time.
"Why, thank you." Meg playfully leaned into James. "I try." She was feeling a bit emboldened that day, and it was showing as she relaxed in James's presence. "Though I imagine you might enjoy at least the feeling of accomplishment at the end, or the rush of adrenaline you get in the process."
"A fair decision." Meg conceded. "If I had the ability to grow plants like that, I would too." Bugs didn't tend to taste amazing, and the texture often left something to be desired. Meg would much rather a nice salad than a handful of insects any day. "But I would willingly eat the bugs in this situation. It is somewhat life-threatening, after all. The other two options result in extreme pain or death." Common sense dictated that they take their chances with the bugs.
"Don't make me come over there, James."

So, is Kal being pleasant or is his attitude showing up in light of the recent shittiness of everything?
“He’s somewhere in between, actually. Not sunshine and roses, but that’s how Kal is, is it not? I would honestly say he’s a lot more pleasant than would be expected.”
"Hm...Meg? I hope I'm not being a bother asking but...might you know of something that can help my stomach? I'm still feels queasy thanks to the fog, and all the herbal remedies I know of haven't work..."
“Yes, I can definitely help you with that!!” Meg hurriedly sifted through her bag. “Here you go! I had some extra from helping Kal with his upset stomach so I keep it on me in case anybody else needs it.” She handed Oliver the small vial of pinkish liquid.
“A fair point.” Meg kept her eyes on the three boxes. A movement from the center box- the one holding the scorpions- drew her attention. “These poor things- they probably don’t appreciate being kept in that box, huh?” She opened the box, unaware of any discomfort from Kal.
Six scorpions made their way out of the box, moving three to each side. The three scorpions on the left raised their pincers and began shoving away the box in front of them. The ones on the right were doing the same to the box on their side. This had only happened to Meg once before, and she knew what it meant. “I guess that answers that question, then. The scorpions are the ones we need to eat.” This was unfortunate; Meg really didn’t mind scorpions at all.
Sins and Shutdowns
“Will do.” She rested her hand on his chest as he pressed his lips to her head, her touch lingering as he pulled back. As soon as James’s dirty clothes were given to her, she added them to the bundle and hurried down to the laundry facilities on campus. Starting the laundry in two separate machines, one for the bedding and another for the clothes, Meg left to return the cleaning supplies to their rightful places.
Meg returned right as the washers started chiming their completion. She switched them to the dryer and sat down nearby with the homework she had picked up on her way back. She had only missed a few days of classes, but she had several assignments that she needed to catch up on.
She had made it through two and a half assignments when the dryers slowed to a stop. Meg hummed as she worked, folding everything neatly and placing them into the basket to her right. Once that was finished, she rested the basket on her hip and placed her homework on top, making her way back to James’s room.
Sins and Shutdowns
“It’s no problem, really! I enjoy it.” Meg smiled and blushed at James’s praise. “Anyway,” she said, “here is a change of clothes for you. I was just going to do the laundry, and I figured I would stop by with some clean clothes and I could wash your old ones while I was at it.” She held out the folded outfit to him. “If you want to hurry and change, I’ll just run down and wash everything at the same time.”
iosly, do they wanblitzkrieg-ritter:
“We’re eating bugs. Eating. Bugs. What kind of Fear Factor bullshit is this school up to!?”
“Bugs? Excuse me while I go throw up.
Seriously, do they want us to die because eating bugs does not sound healthy.”
"Actually, they're a great source of protein." Meg said. "And they hold all of the essential amino acids you need, so they're quite healthy." This, Meg learned, was crucial to know in survival situations. "In a life-threatening situation, you're safest to eat large insects to stay alive."

“I am getting the sinking feeling that many of these challenge are genuinely trying to kill us…”
“That’s not legal is it?” He has to pause for a second from the sheer unease at the progressively more dangerous events before letting out a small sigh.
“Welp, there are worse ways to die.”
"Technically, Mythos doesn't fall under the same jurisdiction as othe public or private schools, so I'm pretty sure they can do what they want." Meg knew it wasn't at all comforting, but it was the truth. "Also, the purpose of the Academy is to prepare us for survival in the outside world, which, for us, includes monsters and other deadly creatures."
She looked down at the two boxes of insects and one box of scorpions. "If we get it right the first time, we don't have to eat any more though." Which one was correct, though?
Thank you-for the tonic yesterday I mean. My stomach's feeling a lot better
“Oh, it’s no problem!! It’s really the least I can do. Thank you for your hard work, Kal. I would never be able to do these tasks by myself.”
Blushing at the compliment, Meg scrunched up her face in thought. “That’s admirable of you,” she said. She smiled worriedly at Kal as he finally took the tonic from her. It was now only a matter of time until his stomach calmed down. She retrieved the vessel from him and placed the cold rag she had prepared in Kal’s hand. “Now put this on your stomach.”
