Hmm... good question! I feel like that’s up to interpretation. Personally I think he did it because he likes running. I figure this was before Buzz became a household name so the guys had plenty to try things and find out what skills they possessed to share and bring to the battles. It could go either way, though!

Plasma Boy does have a real name, but he dislikes it so much he prefers to be called Plasma Boy.

So what would his real name be? Jordan Staralter. The latter is a modified take on his voice actor’s surname, Mr. Michael Showalter. Where does Jordan come from? The country of Jordan.
