Auston is his guy, but at the same time, Auston is a reminder of everything he left behind. A reminder of all the pain and failures and rejections.

The notion of celebrating everything you wanted but it looks nothing like the dream you had at 18 and the face of the person you thought you would do it with is there, a reminder that you didnt do it together.

And then Auston.

Auston, from Mitch, is happy and excited for him, but has to watch Mitch achieve their dreaming knowing that Mitch had to leave to do that and knowing that it'll never be what it was and even if you eventually win too, it'll never be what you dreamed
