" you're getting blood on the carpet. "
the smell of dark iron alleviates the senses, breathing in its decadence with a grin most malign. a slow pace forward, bloodied hand lands underneath the large, fancy collar above his shoulder, a few drops trickling from her fingers and seeping into the cloth.
❝ such a killjoy. ❞ letting out a sigh, the delight colouring her features dissipates wholly into one of discontentment. ❝ alas, i assumed you enjoyed such carnage as much as i had. ❞ the assassin's silver eyes connect with @tyrantsbindings when she circles back around. ❝ or was it only me which fancied your gaze, banite? ❞ the tease of her lips rouse upward once again, tongue licking the remaining crimson splatter staining the corner. mmmm. tasty, tasty ichors these demons do possess.
He was hardly surprised by the sight of blood on her, though he was very much still a little ... miffed to see her ruining his clean floors and even more so when she had the audacity to stain his clothes as well. " I ' enjoy ' the carnage just fine without having it spill everywhere, dear. " There was a time and place for such displays of violence though perhaps he should have known better than to expect a BHAALIST to understand such things. If they had their way, every surface would be painted red at any hour of the day.
" You do realise what a pain it is to get blood out of this, yes? " A tad more annoyed than he had to be. Someone would take care of it and it would all be cleaned up before questions could be asked about it and yet she was hitting a nerve with her words — the implication of what he felt towards her all too sharp for him to ignore. " If you want to play with your food you'll have to find someone else to entertain you — I do not have time for your games. " But he enjoyed the thrill of it, did he not? He simply knew better than to ADMIT it to her.
Enver Gortash Archduke of Baldur's Gate, Bane's Chosen
there's satisfaction laced in coquette smile, kneading smooth, rhythmic motions with her thumb from shoulder to neck muscles. a miniscule but elaborate rouse to make him wonder. the mind may weave many lies, but the body does not.
❝ just one? ❞ another taunt before fingers drew back and fold against her chest.
❝ such an agreeable assumption, banite— however. . . ❞ the gladdening of her expression starts to falter dourly when thoughts linger on moonrise tower where they were once again to be summoned. ❝ the same cannot be said of the general. his reliability is as brittle and duplicitous as the marrow in his dust-dried bones. grief binds him, i fear, and yet we are supposed to trust his leadership wholly to our cause? ❞
He studied her for a moment, eyes looking down at her fingers for a moment before meeting her eyes once more, pulse steady and slow under her touch, if she was hoping to get a reaction out of him with her games she would be DISAPPOINTED. He would ask more of her than just a few words and touches here and there. She would never stop with these small tests though he guessed, always seeing if he would take the bait, if either of them would decide that they were past trusting each other, if they wanted to declare they had NEVER trusted each other fully. Who could tell what they truly thought of their bond and each other in the end?
" Oh please — " The mention of the general made him roll his eyes. Ketheric was the last person he wanted to concern himself with today. They were already forced to deal with him often enough. " Ketheric serves his purpose. For now. You and I both know this alliance will likely undergo some ... restructuring eventually but that time has not yet come. " Ketheric was a fool, too stuck in his old ways, in his GRIEF for his wife and daughter. He would never understand why Myrkul had chosen him. Ketheric possessed strength in a fight, certainly, but what good was strength that wasted on senseless distractions?
" I'm sure Myrkul will have no difficulty finding a REPLACEMENT for him should the need arise. " And no one said they would have to continue the alliance of the dead three. Bane and Bhaal would need no help once Baldur's Gate was fully under HIS control. Until then he would endure the old man for the sake of stability.
→ @alluringlittledeath said: ❛ all this time . . . and it was all a lie? ❜
He had known the return of Bhaal's disgraced son would COMPLICATE things, especially given his own choice not to waste time and valuable assets trying to track him down and thus risking that Orin got to her sibling first in the belief that surely he would find his way back eventually! It had been a gamble to trust that even after what she had done to her brother's brain he would remember enough to know better than to trust a word that came out of her mouth. Then again should he remember enough he would have known that his old friend's favourite tool to wield was that of simple WORDS and that trusting his word was rather foolish for most. Perhaps it was a mercy he did not remember much.
It was clear his old friend would need some convincing. A frustrating step he would have to take. He had no time for a discussion like this however, not now, not when the brain was threatening to tear HIS city apart and ruin everything he had worked half his life towards. But losing Jaez again would be ... unfortunate, to put it mildly. So he would have to find a way to de-escalate the situation and turn his favourite assassin loose on Orin instead and he had to find it quickly. " A lie? Did she tell you that? Dear, I know we don't always see eye to eye on things but I hardly LIE to you. " But he had turned his back on the man when it had been more convenient to not pick a fight with Orin over their internal power struggle. He wondered if Orin had told her brother about that or if he had somehow figured it out himself. If he knew, then this could turn unpleasant. For both of them.
" You come to me with wounded pride but I am not the one who caused you this pain. Where Orin betrayed you and Ketheric shunned you I am offering you a hand again. Does that not prove my intentions are HONEST? " It proved very little but it might just buy him some sympathy back.

when you 'survived' the first night with your 'business associate' and need to think of a more sustainable solution
okay finally, House of Hope post —
Enver's parents sold him to Raphael to clear their debt when he was 12. His life at home had already been shaky for years before this incident. His mother tended to take her anger out on him and often called him an insufferable know it all, complaining that he tended to get sidetracked while doing important work helping his father in their shop when in reality Enver tried his best to help keep the business afloat, he really did, but it did not interest him and thus barely held his attention which for a child meant he ended up daydreaming a lot without ever meaning any harm.
His mother was the one to sign the contract and refused to even say goodbye to her son or even face him when Raphael's minions dragged him off kicking and screaming.
Raphael was worse than his mother. Raphael hated his 'mess' even more than Sally did, Raphael had even more seemingly random and nonsensical rules that Enver struggled to obey and Raphael's anger on a good day was worse than his mother's on a bad day.
Enver was horribly afraid of Raphael at first, tried to do as he was told to avoid punishment only to learn the hard way that nothing will ever be enough for the devil. After a while there was not much left Raphael could do to him to scare him and all the punishment did was teach Enver to learn to become invisible and get better and better at not getting caught.
He also learnt to blame others for his mistakes, there is no solidarity in the House of Hope, only suffering and Enver was determined to weasel his way out of as much of it as possible.
He only saw Hope once in her prison below the main building and he never directly spoke to her given Raphael's tight security on her which did not seem worth the risk to him.
Absolutely despises Korrilla. Her situation with Hope reminds him a little too much of himself and his mother. He is also disgusted by how quickly she gave in to Raphael and how she basically became his lapdog. He would rather die than share her fate.
Haarlep is a mixed bag. He and Raphael are partly the reason Enver learnt to use sex to manipulate people and that is certainly not something he learnt by his own free will but given that Haarlep is pretty much just here to disrupt Raphael and Enver is perceptive enough to figure parts of their whole situation out, he also knows how to use them to his advantage and get Raphael out of his hair for a bit.
It takes him seven years to finally escape, he has just turned 19 when he makes it out after years of punishment, failed attempts and careful collecting of enough information to finally get his hands on his contract so he could destroy it.
A lot of his behaviour, his dramatics, the way he presents himself, the manipulation tactics, the over the top charm, comes from years of watching Raphael work. 'Enver Gortash' built his own empire but Raphael laid the foundation for it.
their eyes magnetize towards each other as he speaks. she's unable to take them away, nor deny the facts he's always made in spite of her amended expression.
❝ no . . .❞ she finally says of a droll tone. they cannot — another added sprinkle of a smirk to add in flavour, hand resting at the slope of his shoulder. ❝ that would only be my butler, as he always comes back- a choice not of my making, unfortunately.❞ howbeit, she would not be here without him, either. the one who guided her to her destiny, to her birthright. and, as much as it vexed the creature, she must work with gortash to bring their gods plans to fruition. her plans.
fingertips casually press into his muscle, a playful dig without dangerous implication as she hums. ❝ but where are the limits, i wonder. . . ❞
He could only imagine he was one of few to get such direct truth out of her, probably even less people SURVIVED such an encounter. For them it was almost a casual evening now. Quite a rarity for the both of them. Under all the threats and guessing games ... it was genuinely a refreshing way to spend time with someone else though she would have to cut this particular confession right out of him if she wanted to hear him say it out loud.
" Well I suppose we'll see where the limits are one of these days. " And that was their whole game, was it not? To keep prodding, to keep trying to cross the line and see how close they could get to doing so without being BURNED. He did not move as she pressed her fingertips into his skin, hardly alarmed at the pressure, if anything he was a little charmed. He knew if she wished him harm or wanted him dead he would be spilling his guts on the floor already.
" So let me be so bold as to assume that for now I HAVE your trust. "
Now, roll over and die.

" I would almost be offended if you did not recognise them. " He was always testing her skills, always seeing how easy it was for her to recognise him even when he tried to deceive her. Part of him had known she would notice him immediately ( it was difficult to sneak up on a drow especially a drow of her calibre ) and he would not be working with her if she had not proven this PERCEPTIVE. Still, he liked challenging her. It kept her sharp and him amused. " Don't tell me you were waiting for me? You could have tried to lose me the second you heard me coming. " Perhaps he was pushing his luck, needling her about this with even the slighest bit of mockery. But where would they be if he did not PUSH her a little bit every now and then? " I am, however, glad to have caught up with you. We have a few things to discuss. I received news from our dear friend the general. "
→ @hellscaress said: “Yes, yes, have your fun. It isn't you they're trying to kill.” / have an annoyed orin when tav decides to kill her first~
" Why thank you, I'm very much planning on having my fun with this. " It was hard to even pretend not to be INCREDIBLY amused over how things were developing. He had no idea if the thieves would honour their pact or if they simply wanted to take advantage of the path the Steel Watch cleared for them to Orin's hidehoud before they would try and come for him next. He could live with either decision. They would not get far if they decided to break their alliance but either way Orin would finally be taken care of and that was going to be the vital part of the next step in his plan. He wondered how much she KNEW about where he was headed with all of this, if she was aware how much he had happily sold her out to the enemy. She could hardly be surprised given the open animosity between them. " You're not here to ask for help, are you? I imagine Bhaal's little slayer can handle these insects all by herself, or am I wrong in that assumption? "
→ @selunaris said: “You have my attention - now do something with it.”
" Demanding, aren't we? " But he had expected nothing less from the woman who had slain Ketheric. he had been eager to make her acquaintance if only to ensure he would be able to avoid whatever mistakes the old general had made to end up dead at her hands instead of stomping this little insurrection out before it had begun. Fortunately for him, he could change gears now, offer the thieves something BETTER while getting what he wanted at the same time. " Very well, you and your companions have travelled quite far, it is only fair I do not waste your time. You are here because you seek my Netherstone. I am telling you now that you would be a fool to try and take it from me but I am also not BLIND to your situation. I am offering you an alternative. That is, if you are willing to hear me out? "
→ @hellscaress - continued !
That was the question, was it not? Could he trust her? Could people like them even ever truly grasp true trust without BETRAYING themselves over it? Not so long ago his answer would have been a firm no. Trust was for the weak, for foolish men who did not know any better. But such a world view also dictated that he was to expect an end to their partnership rather soon. After all, the only one he was supposed to rely on was HIMSELF. Moraena did not fit into his plans — or at least she had not fit into them until very recently.
" Would I be asking such trust of you if I did not believe it to be mutual? " He would, they both knew he would and yet ... asking her so directly, out in the open, lent his words more weight after all. " I think I've earned SOME confidence in my assessment of the situation. After all, I'm still alive, aren't I? I don't think many of your acquaintances can claim the same. "
