celestia is such a funny character like she's constantly manipulating twilight and friends to do shit instead of just asking and you could arguably frame that as being bc she's a "god" and pushing fate to her design or whatever, except that she engages with the group like a normal and relatable person, which makes it more like villainous machinations, except 90% of this manipulation goes towards things like "I don't want my party to be boring shit again. put my little country girl blorbos in there with zero prep so they fuck it up bad"

Celestia instantly makes more sense as a character when you ignore the princess stuff and remember that she's a 1000+ years old wizard. Of course she does manipulative trickster stuff to teach moral lessons and/or cause chaos to amuse herself, that's classic wizard behavior. Of course sometimes she's actually socially awkward and bad at personal relationships and has bad ideas that she thought were good that result in her eating shit embarrassing style, that's classic wizard behavior. Of course she lets the aristocrats and nobles run around being assholes she's still running on wizard advisor programming, she's basically trying to merlin the entire upper class of equestria instead of just a king and some knights. "Yeah uuhhh we'll release the incarnation of chaos himself from his ancient prison because we think this shy girl can be friends with him", terrible plan if you're thinking like a ruler, amazing plan if you're thinking like a wizard. Just look at Canterlot 'Castle' for five seconds and ask yourself if that's in any way a castle. No. Wizard tower, yes. Wizard.

Twilight sparkle: HORROBLE DRIVER like book smart but hits every damn mailbox

Rarity: passenger princess

Rainbow Dash: road. rage. like will drive into the grass to get around other cars. challenge you to a race.

Fluttershy: The kind of person to be at a 4 way intersection, and it's her turn to go but insists on the other people at the intersection going.

Pinkie Pie: wanted to learn how to drive for the purpose of having a clown car.. but can't seem to manage to schedule driving test.

Applejack: Good driver. Like one hand on the steering wheel one hand on your thigh. (so uhh apple jack can I be your passenger princess urmmmm..)

See the thing with them is they both have the same goal. They want to see someone smile, it's what makes it all worth it to them (Pinkie Pie in Smile Song, Rarity in Rules of Rarity). They naturally go about it in a different ways, Pinkie Pie focusing on joy through laughter and friendship and Rarity on joy through reaching one's truest self and glamor, but ultimately it's the same base ethos: my life's dream is to make other's happy in whatever way possible.

You'll also note that they're both super casual with affection, if someones gonna initiate a hug it's gonna be Pinkie, and if someone's gonna initiate a nuzzle it's gonna be Rarity. They have a very open sense of love, once again tied to that joy bringing basis. I was talking with friends in a server the other week and we basically decided this makes it highly likely they would end up just not realizing they were dating (Rarity would because she thought that was just Pinkie being Pinkie, and Pinkie would either think it was confirmed because she gave Rarity a special candy ring OR also fail to realize despite Rarity literally making her a wedding dress, she's just so generous that way)

They also both have big dramatic emotions, Rarity in a 1920s way, Pinkie Pie in a looney tunes way. They tend to catastrophize (THE WORST POSSIBLE THING!! and ALL MY FRIENDS HATE ME BECAUSE THEYRE SKIPPING MY PARTY) but they also are both naturally willing and able to help others in that state get back up on their hooves.

Also they're just cute together and I like them
