i think cas should be stupidly protective over sam in bursts and during times when hes the least human he brings sam dead birds and mice and then just stares at him with big eyes

well yes ! additionally he keeps bringing sticks into sam's room (motel rooms or his room in the bunker, either or) and placing them around sam's bed. puzzling. and sometimes sam goes to grab his tie when he's playing fed and instead of the tie he brought with him there's only a single blue one (striped after s10) in his bag. weird. and sometimes cas stands with his shoulders hunched like he's fluffing up his wings. strange. and at some point cas starts playing music whenever sam sees him. odd. and cas seems to be wearing increasingly bright blue ties around him. really just confusing behaviour all around.

STOPPPPP i'm squealing. i really want sam to be running through alternative reasons cas might be wrapping his wings around him (because there's simply no way cas has a thing for him. that'd be insane. the more likely possibility is obviously that [checks notes] cas is. shielding him from. uh. jack...? and a. a beer bottle. and the explosions on tv. from the wrong direction. because he's bad at it. obviously) so he's calling cas a dumb bird for sucking ass at whatever the hell bullshit sam is coming up with to explain cas' behaviour and cas gets soooooo upset. target mate isn't impressed? target mate thinks he's stupid? so his wings fluff up (to anyone but sam cas just appears to be shrinking inwards. but sam can feel it) and sam smiles and laughs about it fondly (#teasing) before returning right back to whatever they were doing before. but cas' wing tucks just a little closer to sam.

sam falls aslepe on cas just once and wakes up genuinely like hes in a nest. cas put all the pillows around him and his wings are fully cloaking him. cas isnt asleep. hes just staring at him and his eyes are weird and then he gets embarrased and hides his face in cas' neck

UWAAAAA him hiding his face and cas starts running his hands through his hair (preening :>) and sam just shrinks even smaller but lets him. but once cas realises he's allowed to do this and sam won't stop him he starts tidying sam up in other ways. refolding the collars of his shirts neater. brushing away any dirt sam misses. handcombing his hair. it just becomes a thing with them. cas tidies sam up! it's just a thing. then sam fixes cas' tie Once and cas kicks it up twelve notches. he fully just stays in sam's room every night and when sam takes the nest apart he rebuilds it again. sam wakes up tucked against cas' chest surrounded by feathers every morning with cas staring at him like ꒰ঌ(🔵_🔵)໒꒱ and he just closes his eyes and is like "can you. not look at me like that please." and then he peeks again and cas is ꒰ঌ(–_–)໒꒱

squeeeee sastiel movie night but sam falls asleep halfway through and cas just stays in sam's bed and continues watching movies through the night, mostly fairy tale movies he has knowledge of from metatron but wants to see for himself, meanwhile sam keeps cuddling up closer in his sleep <3

cas likes the fantasy of being able to save sam, dean likes the fantasy of being able to protect him so he doesn't need to be saved, mary likes the fantasy of there being nothing to protect him from. these all reflect on what they view as their greatest failures. cas left sam's soul in the cage by mistake, so he wants to correct it by saving him properly. dean failed to protect sam from many things, so he wants to correct it by protecting him properly. mary unintentionally signed off on sam being targeted by demons his whole life, so she wants to correct it by not putting him in danger in the first place.
