i’m going on hiatus and will most likely be archiving this blog.
i in no way support kishimoto. never have and never will. his work has ALWAYS included the sexualization and predation of minors in it, is the thing. old pervert characters, inappropriate comments about minors, etc. not to mention everything else in his work (racism, homophobic and transmisogynist character types, ableism, some glorification of feudalistic and imperialistic themes, the list goes on).
ive always been very openly critical and aware of all of that, very active in denouncing it, made sure not to financially support kishimoto, and checked myself so that none of the naruto content i reblog or create contains influence of those things.
ive always done that and been aware of that. but i feel that now, with his open support of a very real predator, a darker line has been crossed. and the more i ask myself if it is possible for me, personally, to enjoy this series while being critical about it - while Acknowledging that he is the source and that his views about this have definitely been inserted into his work - the more i come to the conclusion that i just can’t. at least not to the degree that im willing to see content of it constantly because of this blog.

edit: to clarify, this isn’t some moral condemnation of anyone who continues to like/read/watch the series. that’s up to the individual to decide. it is up to you to decide if youare able to confidently continue to be critical of what you are consuming, while taking into account who created it and what kind of themes he is inserting into his work, and also thinking about whether or not the methods you are using to consume this media end up supporting kishimoto financially or through continued exposure.
i cannot make that judgement call for you, and i don’t plan to. all i hope for is that everyone is honest with themselves about all of these factors.
my personal decision is not because i don’t trust myself to be critical. as i said, i always have been and will continue to be. it is mostly because this subject affects me on a personal level and this is for my own mental health.
