These eider ducks hang around Cromarty firth. There is a small group of them. It's lovely to watch them swimming. I was lucky enough to notice a couple resting on the shore. I approached very quietly from behind some gorse bushes. I filmed and photographed these eiders for a while before they came back to have a swim again.
Yellowhammer spotted at Spey Bay around a month ago.
It's really wonderful to witness third brood of house sparrow this year. They are all over my garden.
This week blackbird fledglings finally emerged from the hedges in my garden and came to feed on the seeds by themselves. The parents watch from the top of the apple tree or neighbours roof and occasionally feed the young. What a joy to witness!
Shellducks at Udale Bay.
A documentary exploring the most intelligent species of bird on earth. It's amazing what these birds can do! Next time you see a crow bear in mind that although you can't tell him or her apart from other crows they will be able to recognise you and describe how you look to other crows. Better be nice! :D
Photos from my last visit to the hide. Flocks of geese were taking off and landing in the bay all the time.
I visited the hide in Udale yesterday and I had pleasure to watch hundreds of geese feeding, grooming and snoozing in the bay. What a wonderful sight!

During Christmas holidays I visited Saltram park (Plymouth) and spent some time watching birds foraging on the mud banks exposed by tide.
There were lots of little and black headed gulls, few crows, redshanks, flock of mallards (couple with unusual plumage) and small bird that I think it's a coot. The true highlight of the visit was sighting of Little Egret. What a beautiful bird! On the video of foraging egret you can see a large wading bird. I think this must be bar tailed godwit in its winter plumage. In one shot little egret comes very close to a grey heron.
It was very exciting to hide in the trees and observe Little Egret! They are rare in Scotland so being down south was a great opportunity to see it.

Inside the hide
I visited the hide again. I arrived at 10:00 (4h before the peak of the high tide). There weren't many birds to start with but soon enough oystercatchers arrived.
During my visit I observed widgeons, redshanks, oystercatchers, gulls, mallards, a shellduck, swans and many other species. Although the hide was cold time flew by.
This photos are from my first visit to Udale Bay on the 4.12.2013. I will be visiting this lovely place on a regular basis. I hope to do some magnificent sound recordings and films of birds from RSPB hide.
