On January 18, 1979, the Earl of Clancarty initiated a historic debate in Britain’s venerable House of Lords over a “question” previously requested by him. The debate lasted almost four hours, and not less that 14 lords stated for the record their pro and con positions concerning UFOs, and specifically , Lord Clancarty’s motion that Her Majesty’s initiate an “intra-governmental study” of UFOs, as well as his suggestion to set up a UFO Study Group within the House of Lords to look further into the matter. It was reported that within 48 hours of this debate, every single copy of Hansard—the official Parliamentary Debates records—with the UFO transcript was sold out.

On January 17, 1967, an article entitled "UFO Pictures Look Factual" was published in the Edmonton Journal in regards to several photographs taken by two teenage brothers in Lake St. Claire, Michigan.

DETROIT (AP) - A leading expert on unidentified flying objects said Monday that photographs of a “flying saucer” taken near here last week are apparently authentic.

Dr. J. Allen Hynek, chairman of the astronomy department at Northwestern University, also said the pictures are strikingly similar to other pictures of UFOs he has investigated.

Dr. Hynek, a scientific adviser to the U.S. Air Force’s Project Blue Book, which co-ordinates all UFO reports for the military, commented in an interview with the Detroit News.

Dr. Hynek had examined negatives copied by The News from the original prints taken last week near the Detroit suburb of Mount Clemens.

“Analysis so far does not show any indication of an obvious hoax,” he said.

On January 14, 1953, a secret committee commissioned by the Central Intelligence Agency met to review widespread reports of unidentified flying objects the previous year, especially over the Washington, D.C. area. The committee is generally known as the "Robertson Panel" after its director, Howard Percy Robertson -- a physicist, CIA employee, and director of the Defense Department Weapons Evaluation Group.

Later declassified, the Panel concluded "that there was no evidence of a direct threat to national security in the objects sighted", but that they could pose an indirect threat by overwhelming standard military communications due to public hysteria. As a result, the Panel recommended that a public relations campaign should be undertaken in order to "debunk" UFOs, and reduce public interest in the subject, and that civilian UFO groups should be monitored.

An unknown airship passed over Chattanooga yesterday morning about 9:30 o'clock, proceeding in a northeasterly direction and in a straight course, as if on a long journey. The unusual sight was witnessed by many people in this city. Starting point or destination of the mysterious aerial craft is not known. Some who saw it described the vessel as cigar-shaped, which would indicate that it was a dirigible balloon. These people say they did not see it through rings of cigar smoke, either, and that they were not victims of a pipe dream. The airship seen yesterday above the city is thought to be at least the second to pass over this region within a few weeks. Some Chattanoogans saw a strange object in the sky recently and strongly leaned to the opinion that it, like the unknown visitor of yesterday, was an aerial machine.

On January 13, 1910, the Chattanooga Times publishes the above story, entitled "Many See Strange Craft Pass Over Chattanooga". The sighting is one of many chronicled by paranormal historian Charles Fort.

“It appeared to be round in shape and although it was high up, you could just about make out the shape.

“But what caught our attention was the fact that it had a huge bright white beam of light coming from it.

“It wasn't beaming down or in front, but straight up into the sky.

“We were so surprised by what we were seeing, we stopped the car to concentrate on it.”

“As my wife got out of the SUV and I got out of the other car, she began to reach for our son in the car seat, when all of a sudden I noticed this strange black/grayish ball just hovering in the sky,” he said in the report.

The ball seemed to be floating in the same direction as the moon.

“What is that?” the Kyle man asked his wife. “Look! Look there, do you see that black ball?”

“Yeah, I see it,” she replied, according to the report.

“What the heck is that?” the man recalls saying. “It’s just sitting there.”

He turned around quickly to grab his “smartphone” from the car seat, but when he looked back the object had vanished. After his wife had gone inside with their child, however, he reported seeing a second, cigar-shaped object resembling a long black line in the sky not far from a jet at a higher altitude.

During the first week of 2012, UFO reports streamed in from around the world as numerous eyewitnesses described and videotaped strange things in the sky.

Whether they were balloons, conventional aircraft or misidentified astronomical objects, the new year of UFO sightings is off and running as the worldwide proliferation of digital video cameras and phone cams makes it easier than ever to photograph unusual sights in the sky above us.

A veterinarian examined the cow, and determined that it’s vagina and udder had been removed. According to the police report, the vet told officers that it was a precise cut and whoever did it “knew what they were doing.” He also stated that the cow was alive when the parts were removed.

“I couldn’t believe it happened so close to home,” said rancher Gordon Phillip, a friend of Hamilton’s and one of three ranchers in the area. The ranchers lease the land from KCI – the cattle herds keep tall grass down, which in turn helps keep deer off the airport’s runway.

“”It’s amazing, like how the vet said, if he had done a massive masectomy like that on a cow there would be blood all over the field, but there was no blood,” said Phillip.

Police say that when the cow was discovered on Thursday morning, the gate was still locked and there were no footprints or tire tracks leading to the dead cow.

“It’s somewhat amazing because the lack of evidence,” said Phillip, who says that he discovered one of his own cows mutilated 30 years ago. When he asked his vet for an explanation, Phillip says that he just looked towards the sky.

On January 11, 2008, in Denton, TX, a witness describes the following alleged sighting:

"It was flying very slow approx. 30 mph. 30-50 yards away. It seemed to be hugging the shore line, flying at eye level. It made no sound at all. Black and gray in color. Delta shape. No bigger than his 1978 thunderbird. Rectangular rear, with three large round openings in side. The top of the craft looked as if it had an extended canopy. Running about three quarters of the way down the fuselage."

On January 10, 1961, at 12:14 p.m., a Polaris missile launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida was paced by a UFO. Its radar signal was so strong that the radar tracking locked onto the UFO instead of the missile.The UFO stayed on the radar screen for several minutes.

On January 9, 1969, the $500,000 government-funded UFO study at the University of Colorado released its controversial findings, informally known as the "Condon Report" after its director, Edward Condon.

The voluminous report, which is generally of high scientific merit, analyzes a variety of UFO incidents and data -- many of which ultimately have "normal" explanations -- but some of which do not. However, the introductory "Conclusions and Recommendations" section prepared by Condon advises that "that further extensive study of UFOs probably cannot be justified in the expectation that science will be advanced thereby".

Two years before the report conclusions were published, a memo from one of the committee members was leaked stating that: "The trick would be, I think, to describe the project so that, to the public, it would appear a totally objective study, but to the scientific community would present the image of a group of non-believers trying their best to be objective but having an almost zero expectation of finding a saucer." An enormous public relations battle ensued, and as a result the entire study has been forever steeped in controversy.
