Little update because I promised the first chapter of my fic over a month ago and still haven't posted it yet, so sorry for that.
I get so busy with work in the spring time (summer and autumn too, honestly) and I shouldn't complain because it's my dream job but I never get any time to write!!
I don't know when I will actually get that chapter finished; it's almost done but I am honestly so bored with it. Thank you to those who have commented how excited they areβand to everyone for being so patient.
How very interesting. I'll be keeping tabs on you, blogger. Favourite episode?
this is so ominous? thank you??
I don't usually have favourite episodes but if I had to pick one, I'd say 04x21 β Ruby Slippers. I love that it stands out amongst the rest of the episodes with a different ending. The characters trying to be respectful while also so awkward around the drag queens is hilarious to me. And the final reveal always gets me.
Some honorable mentions,
01x14 β Crimson Casanova; Jane and Cho amuse me
05x02 β Devil's Cherry; enough said
05x13 β The Red Barn; genuinely the only episode in the entire show that freaks me out
Note: The Red John case is extremely traumatic for Jane, which is why youβll see it noted when heβs dealing with it.

can someone stop me from being a perfectionist so I can actually make some progress on my fic instead of just rewriting the opening paragraph over and over again?
please please spill re: Red Brick and Ivy takes, I keep being like "...eh? sure?" about that dynamic and I find it so hard to verbalize what's bothering me about it because I do love the peaks into Jane's life before s1e1 and this and Red Dawn are basically all we get to know about post-murder-pre-cbi time of his life
Jane and Sophie have such an interesting dynamic because she is one of the only people that actually has power over him. Not professionally or physically but emotionally, which is almost nonexistent when it comes to Jane.
By the time Red Dawn takes place, Jane is moved forward entirely by seeking revenge. He has no other reason to live (in his opinion). And in the original script for Red Brick and Ivy, it's actually Sophie that starts that fire.
Not much of Jane and Sophie's interactions change between the episode and the script, but the flashbacks do. Looking through the script, their relationship reads more like a bad doctor and codependent patient. Sophie essentially manipulates Jane into seeking revenge on Red John.
And as a sidenote: in the episode flashbacks, there is a scene with Red John's smile on the wall. It's messy and poorly drawn, and Jane is in a secluded hospital room. Which is just a heartbreaking fact that I never see anyone talk about. Jane had to have put it there himself and it makes me wonder; how many times did they clean it away before they realized he would stop hurting himself if they left it.
I actually have so much to say about episode 10, Red Brick and Ivy, because why is there a weird sexual tension between Jane and Sophie Miller? And it seems entirely forced by Sophie.
Jane deserves a doctor that's not attracted to him.
- Sidenote: I'm pretty sure I know how Jane did the trick at the beginning of this episode and I'm also pretty sure it wouldn't work on my neurodivergent ass
- The whole team indulges Jane's magic tricks
- Rigsby is an arson specialist and spent two years with the San Diego Arson Squad
- Van Pelt knows stuff about old cars (idk, I don't)
- Rigsby likes some kind of mango drink
- Van Pelt doesn't want to date Rigsby because she wants to stay on the team
- Jane is prepared to torture Red John
- Cho wishes he had sex with his eighth grade teacher
- As much as Jane denies it, I think his opinion on revenge did change a little after this episode (like he still wants it but he has decided torture is too far, if that makes sense)
