The Tsali Recreational Area, part of the Nantahala National Park, is a premier vacation destination for camping, hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Out of the many recreational activities to do here our mission that day was mountain biking. We would like to thank Andy Zivinsky, from Bryson City Bicycles. He was nice enough to bring bikes for our cast to ride and outfitted them in safety gear in this video of the week. You may also find that even though this is a bike trail, there is still much history here to discover.

The High Hampton Inn video was a perfect example of how everything can fall into place when we shoot a video. The weather while we were in Cashiers was anything but perfect for those couple of days. We had decided that we would come back another time to film the High Hampton for the weather was so dreary. When we woke up that morning to pack up and leave, the sunshine came out and we knew it was perfect to shoot. Having nothing planned, we woke up Maria (Charlie Harwell) and told her she had 5 minutes to get ready. She thought we were joking with her. Barely awake, hardly any makeup, and morning hair, Maria jumped out of bed. We filmed all of the beautiful scenery, and met Mother Nature herself. Mrs. Figgy was a wonderful woman who was working in the flower garden. She happily agreed to be in our video. This video  was shot with nothing planned and it turned out amazingly.

While we were in Sylva, we had the privilege of filming at the Jackson County Courthouse. In this 3-part video series, we find the fun, beauty, and history behind this newly renovated library. In the video 107 steps, our actors had to run up the staircase 29 times! One take was done with little Charlie (played by Maria Papako) as the camera-girl. She also used the Go-Pro camera to shoot a scene upstairs in the library. This is where you see Jessy, our production manager, as the librarian in her first role. Look for her again in the Haywood County Courthouse, which is coming soon.

As we discovered in our week in Macon County, Franklin is full of Cherokee history. Some skeptics may try to argue the "Little People" but no one can disagree with what happened on set that day. We had filmed the first video on that afternoon at the Macon County Historical Museum where we meet Steve Rice and the "Lady of Nikwasi" statue. Mr. Rice revealed to us that for many years the "Lady of Nikwasi" was missing, only to find her way back to Franklin in a car full of trash. When our girls and Mr. Rice traveled up the mound later that day, it was the first time she had been back in all those years. At the Macon County Historical Museum, you can see the artifact is a distinct brown shade while when we see her again on top of the Niwaski mound, she is a deep red color. This is not a product of movie magic. She had changed colors! At that point, the clouds grouped together and the sunset was unlike every other sunset any of us had ever seen. It was almost like something or someone was showing us gratitude for bringing the "Lady of Nikwasi" back. I feel like I can speak for everyone when I say that was a day we'll never forget.

This week’s video comes to you from Bryson City and the Hillside Cemetery where Horace Kephart was laid to rest. This videos is the start of a six video series in which Charlie learns the importance of home and family. Check out the “Road to Nowhere” and the “Decoration Day” series with the Laneys.

When the film team was at the Hillside Cementary searching for the Horace Kephart grave, we ran into two Bryson City natives digging a grave. Neither of these men and any idea they had a well-known author and adventurer buried in their cemetery.  There are many gems in Western North Carolina just waiting to be discovered, even by the locals.
