It’s weird that Jack is always apologizing for how he acted when Mary died and saying “I should have known how that felt”, even after he got his soul back
His emotions are entirely focused on Sam and Dean and not Mary, the woman who was his sole caretaker for six months of his life and was one of the only advocates on his side for a huge portion of the show. It makes me angry that we had a shot of Jack holding Mary in his lap after saving her life, and shots of Mary protecting Jack from an explosion, and Mary telling Jack to leave her to die and him coming back to protect her. Mary stood up for him in the end of season 13 and let him make his own choices. She trusted him.
Jack is apologizing to Sam and Dean. He’s crying because he didn’t understand how they felt even though he literally lost an important figure in his life too and that Jack is also a child and that he already blames himself for his own mothers’ death!!! I don’t know if the writers are trying to make Jack seem disconnected or confused, or if they literally forgot that Mary was a person and that bringing her back was subverting the fridge trope and now we literally have a male character crying at two other male characters about not knowing how they felt when a female character f–king died.
I do think that Jack could be in denial or just trying not to think about Mary to control his emotions but for f–k’s sake, can we mourn Mary and not the idea of Mary? Yeah, Sam and Dean’s emotions matter but Mary got screwed over the most and I hate that the show decides to focus on Jack apologizing rather than his actual horror and sadness over her death.
I’ve always hated how it never feels like there’s mourning for a reasonable amount of time in Supernatural. Sometimes it makes sense- they’re running out of time or it’s all just so horrible that they can’t do anything. But… after they’re done, they almost never go and mourn someone after the funeral. We haven’t seen the rest of the series yet so we may see them mourning Mary and feeling her absence but right now, it’s made me angry.
