it’s no reprieve when the sun sinks behind the horizon. the air stands, hot and humid and still, as they push through to find somewhere to sit on their campsite. with an exhale they drop to the ground and spread their limbs across the grass. with the earth at their back and the stars at their forehead, they close their eyes, unfathomably eager to finally rest until it is time to meet the rest at sunrise. but that is a dream which will not come. even as their limbs ache, as their head swims and their eyelids grow heavy, there is something unwanted that holds them back. talin see them, still, when their eyes are closed: they see a fire that spreads through an unsuspecting harbor. they see a flash of white hair as it emerges from the embers. they see the world as it collapses under the weight of it and crumbles to ashes. the scar of their wound hums and they let it, because it seems particularly cruel to do so.
and what are they, if not cruel? the silvery voice in their head, echoing in their ears every night, is a stain on their existence after all. it is at this moment, too, that they hear gale's footsteps. they do not move from their sprawl across the ground, although they pry their eyes open suspiciously and glance @weavrot's way. and as quickly as they think it, the elf speaks, voice sharp and unkind (but that is nothing any of them are unused to). ❛ what, are you gonna eat me? ❜ a pause as they lift their hand to sway it around. they sit up at that, finding no reason to wallow in their own thoughts. ❛ tell me, oh monster from the deep. i give you two choices. one side of the road has some unwanted ghosts. things that won’t die and should stay where they are. on the other side, everything undesirable burns away in the sun. both of them reach to a tree with delicious fruit. which one would you pick? ❜

i do sincerely enjoy the durge playthrough but what's so funny to me is how i went from playing a manipulative but good character (shams) to a stupid but evil character (talin) because now the game is much longer
