Do you believe that people have free will? Why or why not?

What an interesting question. On a surface level, I do believe people have free will. Every little thing we do every day is the consequences of choices for and by us even if we're not aware of it. Many argue against free will by stating that everyone is doomed by the circumstances they were born into. Who you are is determined by the envionrment you grew up in and how others have shaped you, so you never really got to exert will in the type of person you chose to be.

I disagree. Every person, no matter their circumstance, still is fully capable of making their own decisions. Just because your decisions are flavored by your experiences, doesn't make them any less of your own.

That being said, I do hold the personal belief that some actions are fated or inevitable. Whether that be as someone is shaped by circumstance or decided by a greater power. For instance, if someone is born rotten, no matter what, they cannot escape that truth. Same as if someone was born for greatness or for those who prophesize their own deaths. Such an evitabilitu cannot be escaped.
