Original tournament masterpost
Interrupting the usual tournament posting to say that I finally started to consume the first of all of the media I wanted to consume as a result of seeing cool swords in media from last time, in that I started Dark Souls 3 this month
Despite the fact that I usually hate slow games and also quit very easily when a game gets too hard I'm enjoying this one a lot. Mechanically and format-wise it's very similar to Tunic (great indie game you should play it) so I kinda figured I'd like it, and yeah. It's like tunic just you gotta be slightly more patient. And it's less colorful. and there's a million stats and items and stuff lol
I'm currently trying to grind out mr pontiff sulyvahn who is actually the first boss who's taken me more than 5 tries to beat if you can believe that. But I've still spent more time grinding out tunic bosses so I'm not that worried
Sulyvahn's swords are very baller and I wish I could submit them to my own tournament :( I haven't gotten to use any cool swords myself though. At my brother's recommendation I've been using a dex build and fortunately or unfortunately for me I got the 2% lothric knight sword drop first try, and with a sharp gem that's an A grade dex scaling so this is kind of my best weapon for the whole game I guess? Which is cool but also kind of sad because it's about as basic as swords come
But hey seeing bosses use cool swords is good enough for me
Anyways I beat the game lol
Lucked out Pontiff one round. Not sure I could replicate it but the second phase was shockingly easier than the first one
I'm currently grinding out Nameless King before I take on the DLC. He is kicking my butt but I'm fully convinced that if there wasn't a first phase with a dragon to this fight I would have beaten him three times over. I think next time I play the game I'll beat him probably I understand all his attacks I just need to string everything together into a successful run. Luckily I understand the first phase so well by this point that I never have to use more than 2 estus before I initiate phase 2
I have had a lot of fun with this game and I'll definitely be picking up more souls games. I think my play order after I finish up 3 is gonna be DS1 > Bloodborne > Sekiro > DS2 > Elden Ring. I've gotta do DS1 first and I wanna put off Sekiro until I've done some of the slower ones cause I'm afraid I'll lose patience once I start a faster paced game lol. And I'm saving DS2 for once I'm thoroughly into the series cause I know it's pretty bad. And Elden Ring I'd just rather play in summer when I have more time lol
Sorry to literally every other game I planned on playing for cool swords as a result of the tournament I am solely interested in soulsborne games right now
Congrats Holy Moonlight Sword for continuing to be the undefeated champion! I'll make a proper end-of-tournament post....eventually I guess idk but thanks for following along y'all
The Ultimate Rematch: Holy Moonlight Sword vs. Nightblood
Holy Moonlight Sword
From: Bloodborne (and every other Fromsoftware game)
Wielder: Ludwig
One of the recurring elements in FromSoftware games, all the way from King's Field to Elden Ring, the Holy Moonlight Sword is the Bloodborne iteration of the weapon. Implied to have been created by the Great Ones (eldritch god-like beings), it is discovered by Ludwig the Holy Blade in the labyrinths beneath Yharnam, and used to fight the scourge of beasts within the city. Eventually, Ludwig lost himself to beasthood, and found his way to the Hunter's Nightmare, along with this Holy Moonlight Sword. In Ludwig's boss fight, the sword would return Ludwig's sanity to him (perhaps due to its eldritch origins and his own familiarity with it), allowing him to fight like a man, rather than a beast. After Ludwig's defeat, it would either be gifted or taken by force by the Good Hunter to use on their own journey.
Nightblood
From: Cosmere/Warbreaker
Wielder: Vasher
Nightblood is a pure black sword that bleeds black smoke when drawn. If a wielder unsheathes it for too long, they will die. When it was forged, it was given the command to “destroy evil,” but it doesn’t actually understand what evil is (to quote one of my submittors, it “approaches this with all the enthusiasm and moral nuance of a golden retriever”). It is very chipper and thrives on approval, wanting to be praised for all the evil people it has killed. The sword can possess evil people, causing them to kill the evil people around them and then usually commit suicide. It can communicate telepathically with others. Finally, it is canonically “fascinated by gender, and trying to figure it out.”

I understand Holy Moonlight Sword probably wins for popularity, but I have to point out Nightblood EATS investiture, the energy that powers magic. Holy Moonlight Sword looks magic to me. Nightblood’s just gonna have it for breakfast
This does assume that the energy which powers the Holy Moonlight Sword IS investiture, which is highly unlikely given its location within a Pthumerian labyrinth and connection to Yharnam's Great Ones. Because of this, it is likely consuming the HMS would give Nightblood a severe bout of indigestion and/or corrupt it irreparably.

Final Match: Splatana Stamper vs. Nightblood
Splatana Stamper
From: Splatoon
Wielder: the player
The Splatana Stamper is an ink-based sword designed to look like a wheeled date stamp mixed with a chainsaw. Since its blade is made of stamps, all of its slashing power is derived from the ink that coats its business end. Every time you swing it, it shoots a slash-shaped ink projectile that acts as its main source of damage and travels surprisingly far, with the added damage from the blade itself in melee range being more of a bonus. When you charge it up before swinging, its ink slash will be twice as powerful and travel slightly farther but move through the air more slowly, and getting hit with the blade itself becomes an instant kill.
