NIRVANA SEEKER;; -- ( so, in case only a few of you know, goku, the bae, is based off Sun Wukong, the monkey king from Journey to the West. in some portrayals, the monkey king is prideful, sure of himself, ready to take on any challenge the heavens throw at him, in pure confidence that he WILL overcome them. that’ll be very relevant in a sec ) 

during his journey with shenron, for the first 100 years, he embarked on a journey to seek nirvana. he saw renounced all but the clothes on his back, the senzu beans in his pocket, ( the nimbus cloud inluded but it’s more of a sentient pet )     & the red staff that became a extension of himself, used primarily for self defense. goku saw great sights, met great overlords of worlds, & guided by divine sage that ruled over all things nature; Sun Wukong. 

goku became sun’s protege after overcoming horrific trials of mind, body & soul that left him wracked to the very core. completing the trials, goku set off on the path to become a divine sage & achieve a fabled state of absolute nirvana. needless to say, it was nowhere near easy.
