One of the Many Uses of Bulk Tanker
If you have never heard of “fracking” do not worry. Anyone who is not associated with the natural gas industry is not likely to know the slang. It is not a cuss word if that is what you are thinking! It is simply the mash up of the word “hydraulic fracturing”. We all know that there is such a thing called natural gas, and many people might even use it but we do not know how it comes to us. This is a process where bulk tanker plays quite the hero as it involves, transporting large amount of water, sand and chemicals to the gas site in the process of extracting the gas.
The main concept of extracting natural gas from its parent rock is, in theory, a simple process. First, a deep well is drilled into the earth, as deep as 10,000 feet! This well is a lot narrower than the conventional well. Through this hole in the ground, water, sand and chemicals are injected at high pressures so that it causes the precious rock layer to crack. The sand in the mixture causes the fissures to remain open so that the entrapped gas can leave the rock freely and be collected in the tanks at ground level. From here the natural gas is piped into the market. In the meanwhile the excess water seeps back up and is collected in pits and from here they are carried off to treatment plans. And all this would be incomplete without bulk tankers!
We have all seen cement tanker at some construction project or the other, but we do not appreciate the vital roles bulk tankers play in our lives, in general. Imagine the important task of carrying the millions of gallons of water and sand and chemicals to the site. If there were no bulk tankers we might have to contrive a much more complicated way to extract the gas. And not just this, there are thousands of ways in which they are enriching our lives each day, and yet they find no place in our prized wall of posters!

When we see trucks on the road they are just that to us – trucks. To us it is one homogenous entity that engulfs all those vehicles that transport stuff from one place to another. The truth is not that simple unfortunately. There are in fact many kinds of trucks on the road. The funniest thing is that they are not even one whole vehicle most of the time. Those abnormally large vehicles that cause us to flee to the very end of our lane are often not one but two vehicles in one. The front part where the engine sits is actually the ‘truck’ part of the vehicle while the rest of it is the trailer. Even in the trailer there are many different kinds mainly the full trailer, the semi trailers and skel trailers.
If you come across semi trailers for sale ad anywhere and wonder what they actually are, you are about to find out. A full trailer is the whole box like structure with wheels all along its length. For the absolute novice, it is the huge cargo area that ‘trails’ behind the engine. Transportation of industrial goods have become much more civilized today than what it was even a few years ago. There are designated vehicles to carry each different kinds of materials all fitted with the needed technology. We have all seen a bulk tanker that either holds water or oil but it can actually be used for many other purposes. One very common use is the transportation of milk. Bulk tankers are equipped with certain cooling mechanisms that keep the milk cool on long travels. The tankers keep the milk cool and prevent curdling. These can bring the fresh, raw milk from the farms right up to the packaging department. These tankers need to be cleaned after every delivery to make sure that there are no elements in the tanker that can ruin the next batch of milk.
It is another misconception that bulk tankers are only used to transport liquids and gases, they can carry solids too. Sand tanker is one example that helps to carry sand from one place to the other. Now you may wonder why they would need to transport sand. Well, sand has many other purposes other than being a good place to get a tan! It is used for construction purposes, and is a useful component if you are setting up a swimming pool as well. If you think about emergency water supply the first thing that crosses our mind is fire fighting. They are the ones who need quick water and usually a lot of it. For them, vacuum tanks prove highly beneficial. The great thing about using vacuum truck for firefighting purposes is that the tankers can store more water and at higher pressures ensuring that it can be dispensed quicker to bring the fire under control. Another benefit is that if they run empty they can be easily filled up through any water source that may be nearby at top speed, saving many crucial minutes.
