Thanks To Hackers
Usually, people see hacking almost as a crime, however, believe it or not, there are a lot of good ways to use hacking. Not all the hackers tend to break into your computer and steal your data. Doing my research for the post, I found out that hackers divide themselves into several types or groups, which are The Black Hat Hackers, Grey Hat Hackers and The White Hat Hackers. The Black Hats is the type of hackers who are actually break into your computer in order to steal the data. The Grey Hats are somewhere in between Black Hats and White Hats. They don't work for their own personal gain, however, they may technically commit crimes and do unethical things. And, finally, The White Hat Hackers is the type of hackers we truly should be thankful for. Those are the "good guys" in a hacking world. I would invite them all for Thanksgiving dinner with a big pleasure. Funny, that the term Black and White hat comes from old Western movies, where “good guys” were usually wearing white cowboy hats, and “bad guys” were wearing black ones. Obviously, The White Hat Hackers are the total opposite of a Black Hats. They use their skill to benefit the society. The synonym of a White Hat Hacker is an “ethical hacker”, who uses his knowledge of computer security systems to fix or test the organization’s systems. Interestingly, that Black and Grey Hats would use absolutely the same methods and techniques, but the motives would be different. White Hat Hacking might be a hobby, and at the same time it might be a permanent job on a company’s payroll. White Hats might work for organizations to protect them from the Black Hats. Being a computer security specialists, they use their abilities for a good and legal purposes, rather than criminal and illegal purposes. For instance, many organizations employ “ethical hackers” to test and improve their computer security systems. By using the access to the security system, hackers gives a report to organization about weak points of the system in order to improve their defense. This is known as “penetration testing”. Another thing, that we could thank hackers for is that they are excellent analytics. Even more, I would say judges. It might be sort of a controversial reason, however, its worth discussing. Have you ever notice, that hackers immediately make public all the bugs in OS or issues in newly released software. They do it in a way that average user cannot do. All this draw an attention to the fact that company didn’t make enough effort to create a worthy product, which encourages the company to be more careful in future. Therefore, in my opinion, the whole definition of the word “hacker” is controversial. It could mean someone who simply breaks into system for his own good or, on the other hand, someone who identifies security weakness in a system, however, instead of taking an advantage of it, reveals it in order to be fixed and improved.
