Hictooth Headcanon: Toothless hesitates to leave Hiccup because he knows deep down that Hiccup won’t be around for much longer. So Toothless wants to spend time with Hiccup as much as possible. Did I break you yet?
HAH! Bold of you to assume I wasn’t already broken!
But seriously, though. This is such a wonderfully heartbreaking headcanon. We don’t know for how long a dragon lives, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Toothless will end up outliving Hiccup with ease and knows that he will.
NOW THAT’S HOW YOU END A TRILOGY.
I’ve watched all spoilers on IG ever since the first week of January but still, it made me bawl my eyes out. Luckily, I was the only one in the Skybox area so no one heard me squeal and cry. Great job for making me cry for the third time, Dean Deblois! 😎
And the soundtrack. Odin knows how many times I’ve been listening to it ever since its release but hearing it while watching the movie makes it more eargasmic! And that “Coming Around” scene. Nostalgic! Give me those bagpipes! You never cease to amaze me with your compositions, John Powell! I hummed the whole soundtrack while watching! HAHAHAHA The “Third Date” unconsciously plays in my head everyday. 😂
Now I’m tempted to binge watch the movies, shorts, and series again. And I need to reread the book series! I haven’t read book 12 yet!
THIS MOVIE BETTER WIN THE OSCAR FOR BEST ANIMATED FEATURE THIS YEAR, FAMZ. OR ELSE IMMA THROW EVERYTHING AROUND ME. INCLUDING PEOPLE! 👿
I think we can all agree that Toothless didn’t forget Hiccup at the end of HTTYD3 before he miraculously remembered
He was definetly just hyperfixating on his beard with a “what the fuck is that?”
Hiccup and Astrid are sleeping together
Hiccup : (mumbles in his sleep) "I love you..."
Astrid : (smiles) "I love you too, Babe."
Hiccup : "...Toothless ..."
Astrid : 0_0 ?
Hiccup : (snores)
How to Train Your Dragon 3 has the most diverse audience I have ever seen. You’ve got kids going to see it, parents with a one year old just so they can watch it. I saw at least 12 gay couples go and see it opening night and then you have the 20 year old straight guys who give me their ticket without looking at me like they’re embarrassed that they’re seeing it by themselves like you go boyo and the polar opposite same age women going alone or in a group to see it all super excited. Dads going with their son or daughter or both not even looking reluctant about it. There are 40-60 year-olds during the day usually. Like Hiccup and Toothless’ friendship is what is up for everyone; we all just want to see two friends being best pals
One Last Wish (HTTYD3)
im sorry. i had to.

“It’s okay, Dad. We’re nearly there.” Pulling the blanket up over her father, Zephyr stood moving to her mothers side. Her long grey hair blew in the winter breeze as she inspected the water in front of her.
“There.” Astrid let out a breath as she linked her arm with Nuffink. Zephyr quickly let go of the anchor as Nuffink pulled the sail back. The boat stopped, swaying with the water gently. Astrid turned to look ahead. A black dragon with familiar bright green eyes stared back at her before slowly gliding over to the boat, landing on front. Black scales were peeling off the dragon, wrinkled skin covered it’s body. A cough erupted from Hiccups chest as he sat up. Green eyes met green eyes. Astrid, Zephyr and Nuffink making sure to stay out of the way. A smile creeped onto Hiccups face.
“Hey there, bud.” Toothless took a step forward, sniffing his best friend before cooing. “Yeah. I missed you too, Buddy. But…” Hiccup paused to cough again, looking up at his wife and two grown children. “It’s time for me.” Toothless growled sadly, lying his head on his best friends lap. Astrid moved towards her fragile husband before sitting down next to him, wrapping an arm around his waist. Zephyr and Nuffink came to sit by their dad, a tear rolling down Zephyr’s cheek.
“Don’t be sad, my little girl. I’m happy.” Hiccup wiped the tear from his daughters cheek before lying on his back. One hand was wrapped around his wife, the other rested on Toothless’s head. He looked around one last time. His two beautiful children. His angelic wife. His best friend of a lifetime. “I’ve never been happier.” And with that, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III took his last breath, a smile plastered on his face as he fell into an everlasting sleep.
Hollow.
!!!HTTYD 3 SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
He wishes he would feel more at loss, but as he looks at the skeleton of what used to be Berk, all he feels is empty.
Did someone say ‘Hiccup returning to Berk 1.0’? No? Well, here you go anyways. Angst ensues.
Huge thanks to the wonderful @resident-mother-hen for Beta’ing - love ya!
…
It takes them a month.
He’s ready to kiss the ground when he sets his foot on the wet sand. His knees wobble and he knows he looks as unsteady as he feels. Eret clamps a hand over his shoulder and almost sends them both flying back into the ship, but Hiccup appreciates the gesture. He really does.
It’s quiet.
No one in their group of twenty is willing to make the first step. They stand in silence instead. Mourning, he realizes.
Hiccup wishes he could look away but his eyes are glued to the familiar buildings (and he can still pinpoint where everyone lived), to the slightly faded colors of the constructions he worked so hard to build. He can almost see the fire rising from the burned wood, smell the smoke and hear the roars of dragons.
He wishes he would feel more at loss, but as he looks at the skeleton of what used to be Berk, all he feels is empty.

the moment hiccup realized that he needed to let toothless go for his protection was the moment I started fullstop sobbing in the theater
Hiccup the Weak
People had demanded to return. But it had only been a few, generally the old farts who were far too tied down to old Berk to just up and leave with no hope of returning. Gobber had warned that such a thing would happen, but Hiccup was too depressed to think about that. He’d attempted to patch it up with “We’ll figure it out. For now, build huts, fortify ourselves in case we’re attacked. By weather or neighbors.”
So they built- and quickly. It was a distraction. Hiccup wasn’t the only one suffering from the loss of a friend, and any distraction from the memory was greatly welcomed. But the trouble arose again only two months after they’d “moved”.
Old Grissle slammed her beefy hand on Hiccup’s table. He jumped, the tankard in his hand almost bending under his tight grip. He swallowed and blinked, giving her a side glance.
“Grissle I-”
“A Chief does not abandon his home. Berk was our home! Our castle- and your’s for that matter! We wish to return, this place will never be home.”
Hiccup swallowed thickly and looked to Astrid who sat at his side. She just smiled sadly.
He couldn’t return. And that was just a fact. Too many painful memories lay there. Were they bad, per se? No, in fact, that’s what made them so painful. Generally they were good memories, but the fact that what caused those memories to be so good- Thor, so good- was no longer there… it almost turned those happy gay memories dark. Shadowed. Like events from a bad dream that appeared happy, yet something in the back of your mind whispered that something very bad was about to happen.
It was hard enough living on the island where they’d actually said goodbye. Hiccup didn’t know if he’d ever be ready to go back to the place where they said hello.
He took a deep breath and slowly let it out. He tried to plan his words carefully. “I’m very sorry Grissle- and you Jerod, Miche, Worm, Shard, all of you- I really am it’s just… I can’t go back. And I think I speak for others when I say that Berk- while it will always be our home- will never be the place we’ll live or thrive. It’s a memory.”
Worm’s head full of gnarly grey hair shook, as did the cane in his hand. “How can a Chief say such a thing-!?”
“I can’t go back.” Hiccup was hurting too much to care his voice cracked. He vaguely recognized Astrid’s hand on his arm. “I can’t. I’m sorry.”
“As am I.” Valka stated lowly.
“Coward. That’s what you all are. Cowards. Had Stoick been here, he’d knock some good old fashioned sense into your thick-headed skulls.” Grissle groused. She turned and stomped out of the half-built Hall, slamming the pine doors behind her. Everyone flinched at the sound they made, and Hiccup slid shakily into his chair.
“All of you…” He looked up warily. “I’m sorry. Truly, I am. If my Dad was here, he would go back. I know he would. Maybe he was wiser than I, maybe he was tougher- hardened. No. I know he was. That’s what made him Stoick the Great. Well, then, call me Hiccup the Weak, because I’m never going back to Berk. I… I just can’t. Wait- never might be too strong a word. I may go back some day, but will I stay?” His voice trembled. “It’s not that I’m not strong enough to face what we left. I’m… I’m too weak to face what’s not there.”
He already imagined it. It would be so empty, so drab. The bright colors of the huts would mean nothing when they were empty and covered in dust. He imagined walking through dead streets that he’d never seen empty. He imagined walking to the remains of his charred hut; to the old Great Hall, where his father’s statue stood.
The cove, where he’d met his best friend. He shook, biting hard on his tongue to keep from crumbling to pieces in front of so many.
“If you wish to return, then by all means, you have my blessing to go. Take boats, take provisions. Take your children if they wish to accompany you. But I… your Chief will not.”
The room fell subject to heavy silence. Gobber looked down at his lap uncomfortably, his large broad shoulders hunched and his head bowed. Astrid squeezed Hiccup’s arm, and Valka cleared her throat.
A chair scraped the floor, and a bowed man stood, his old bones creaking. Leaning against the table, he peered out from beneath bushy eyebrows. “I’m a man of honor.” said Shard, a man of few words. When he spoke, everyone made a mind to listen. “As hard as it may be to die on a land that will never be mine, I follow my Chief, as was vowed of me at my Christening.”
Again, everyone fell silent. Slowly, one by one, the others stood. Some left the Hall, but some stayed, in silent agreement with Shard and his simple but truthful words.
“Thank you.” Hiccup said quietly. “I will try my best to be the Chief you need, and hopefully… this will be the start of a better Berk.”
He knew it would never be half as good as Berk. Berk was home, Berk was… Berk. He had no words to describe how hard it was to stay away from the only place he’d ever really called home. But as hard as it was to stay away, the harder it was to even think of returning.
Maybe. One day, when he was as old as the Vikings around him, he might feel the tethers of his homeland beckon him home. Maybe then the memories would be all he’d have left. Maybe, he’d be a stronger man.
i’m thinking about it still, but the berkians now have a big responsibility, right?
only they know what really happened to the dragons.
they probably still have the book of dragons. i doubt fishlegs would leave it behind. not to mention all their dragon decor and their own stories about the creatures.
and hiccup probably worked on a map to the entrance of the hidden world for a long time. to make sure it was precise because he had to remember since only a dragon can find it.
and i can see it becoming a tradition among future chiefs and mainly in hiccup’s family, to sail to the entrance of the hidden world, just to check up on things.
it’s kinda cool to think about.
alright who’s gonna write the one-shot of astrid’s pov when she watches hiccup fall to his death after he lets go of the light fury in order to save toothless ??????
i have nowhere else to post this
