A nonbinary child was murdered recently and Iāve been reporting multiple transphobic comments misgendering them, mocking their death, and deadnaming them. But they stay up. Tumblr wonāt do anything about it. But they drop everything to permanently ban a trans women.
Really shows their priorities.
Iām not seeing many people post about this and itās very disappointing.
Nex Benedict, a 16 year old nonbinary student at Owasso high school in Oklahoma, was murdered on February 8th. They were beaten to death by 3 cisgender girls in the girls bathroom.
Nex was brutally beaten to death and was denied care. Teachers refused to call an ambulance for them.
The news is deadnaming them, describing their death as āunexpectedā, as a āphysical altercationā, and saying it was āa fightā. The news is erasing Nexās identity and trying to erase the fact this is a targeted hate crime.
Please donāt let another trans murder be ignored.

y'all know that the explanations that matt gave as to why he banned are predstrogen aren't for us, right? saying it was because of sexual content or exploding a car with hammers, or whatever. justification is irrelevant to his actions; he's an authority; metaphorically he's an abusive parent, and one of his children talked back so he hit her.
the justification isn't for us; it's for transphobes. it's for people who have already learned a predisposition against trans people, who will listen and agree that it's justified. she broke the rules! anyone who breaks the rules gets banned, duh. it's for people who won't think twice about how many trans women have been banned, censored, etc., who won't realize that this is just the latest in a pattern of attacks because, because anyone who got censored is just an individual who broke the rules.
he's telling them what to think. his words are targeted at the people who will listen to him without second guessing them.
the rules are not there to protect us. the purpose of a system is what it does. the words of the rules are not there as an explanation of their purpose; the words are the language and justification that the oppressor uses to keep their followers loyal. the rules themselves exist to keep us in line.

the language games are there in how he misgendered her, too. notice how when he switches to using it/its, he's not technically talking about predstrogen, he's talking about 'the account'. by designating 'the account,' 'the post,' and so on as separate from her, he legitimizes his usage of it/its to refer to her; 'the account' is a thing, it/its are the the right pronouns for a thing, right?
and it degrades her again by saying that her account is just a thing, and not something that she poured love into, not something that's a part of her.
we already knew staff had some shitheads but the ceo coming out and saying the quiet part out loud so blatantly is insane im still reeling. fuck you forever dude

i think it's worth remembering that there has been a multi month long ongoing harassment campaign against various transfems on this website by now, with tumblr moderation doing barely anything about it (except banning some of us), but they're currently able to find every single post vaguely mean to matt and suspend them within an hour with no reports.

Iāve been thinking about how to put this into some form of dignification because Iām very upset about my friend getting nuked like that but the only way I can put it is:

having known avery across 5 accounts now itās been exhausting to watch the staff get more & more hostile every time she got deleted & to watch as terfs gain more power over the āqueerest place on the webā. I guess Iām not the first person to say that it makes me feel less safe on the site Iāve spent over a decade on & I feel even worse for avery essentially being put in exile from the wider community, no one likes being isolated.
I generally keep out of arguments but Iām very upset at the transmascs that bought into the terf divide-and-conquer strategies over the past year, both on & off this website. I kept my mouth shut so I wouldnāt have people barking down my throat & half the time it looked like everyone was just arguing in circles but at the end of the day itās us trans women that get our teeth kicked in for daring to stand on their own two feet.
Iām not surprised at the staffās handling of all of this either, with the ceo being as paper thin as he is, lawsuit theyāre trying to ignore & the fact we know that there are terfs on tumblrās staff, this was a car crash waiting to happen. thereās not much else for me to say thatās already been said, the only thing Iām wondering is how matt plans on getting american authorities involved when avery lives in northern ireland.
I doubt this post is even going to reach outside of the circle of trans women who already agree with my sentiments & if it does Iām probably just gonna be yelled at & be called a crazy tranny but I donāt really care, this shouldnāt have been a thing to begin with but I guess the existence of trans women never makes any of you happy.

for awhile tumblr almost felt like a place on the internet we as trans women could carve out for ourselves. there was always an undercurrent of hostility towards us, like there always in pretty much space that isnt explicitly curated by a trans woman, but i could at least pretend we had something.
now? even in the past two months since the new year started, the sheer volume and intensity of transphobia is mind boggling. like every shitter from every group made a resolution to harass as many trans women as possible.
and do we get help? any form of anything from "the queerest place on the internet"? no. instead our blogs get flagged when we post innocuous selfies (something ceo matt literally acknowledged himself as a "bug") which means it loses all personalization and sense of identity. just another faceless nobody for them to cast aside and ignore. thats if youre lucky. otherwise your entire account gets wiped off the site while you face daily harassment from the most bad faith people imaginable and any trace of you scrubbed.
i want to scream and cry and be angry but all i feel anymore is im just so tired. when will we have a space for ourselves that doesnt want us dead so openly.
