Q: Why are you so opposed to infant circumcision?

A: A multitude of reasons. I explain in detail here.

Q: What if I’m circumcised and like it? A: That’s fine! I’m not trying to make anybody feel bad about their penis. If you don’t mind being circumcised, or even prefer it, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, and I would never want to diminish your happiness with your penis. But despite your own contentedness with being circumcised, you can’t just assume a future child of yours will feel the same way. Let circumcision remain a choice for them.

Q: What do you think of people who choose to get circumcised later in life? A: I’m not opposed to anybody making such a decision about their *own* body, as long as it’s their *own* decision. I just hope it’s an educated decision, in which the person is aware of the risks and negative aspects, and that they’re not being pressured into it either.

Q: What do you think of circumcision for religious reasons? A: I recognize the complexity of the issue and do NOT condone any anti-Semitic or anti-Islamic sentiment. However, my belief is that religious tradition is not a good reason to harm others, and this includes removing functional body parts from a person who can’t consent.

Q: Isn’t circumcision necessary sometimes, due to problems that can arise with the foreskin? A: The majority of problems that are treated with circumcision can be treated in other ways, including antibiotics, less drastic surgeries, and for adults who cannot retract (remember, non-retraction is NORMAL in infants and young children), stretching exercises, phimosis-curing devices, creams, and once again, surgeries that don’t involve lopping off the entire foreskin.

Q: Why do you care so much about other people do with THEIR babies? A: Because I don’t like to see people suffer adverse effects due to other people’s ignorance.

Q: You were circumcised as a baby, how do you know having a foreskin is better? How can you miss what you practically never had? A: It’s kind of just basic science that if you remove thousands upon thousands of nerve endings, sensation is going to be diminished. Also, the visual and tactile difference between the glans of a cut and uncut penis is further indication of the change that occurs. Additionally, inhibiting the penile skin’ mobility is contrary to the intended gliding mechanism of penetrative sex. Perhaps most importantly of all, there’s the testimony of people who got circumcised in adulthood and attest to reduced sensitivity and/or other sexual problems that weren’t present prior to circumcision, as well as those who restored their foreskin (regardless of when they got circumcised) and report improvement.

Q: When and how did you come to form your stance on infant circumcision? A: I was 10 years old when I first learned about circumcision, and I was against it from the start. It just seemed like a no-brainer that if the negative effects are numerous, and the supposed benefits have been debunked (or at least are debatable), it shouldn’t be practiced. I explain in more detail here.

Q: Have you discussed any of this with your parents? Are you angry at them for their decision to have you circumcised? A: It’s not a topic I’ve discussed with them, no. I’ll admit part of it is simply the fact that discussing sex and genital stuff with them has always been rather awkward, but also, I simply just don’t feel the need to have that conversation with them. While I’m disappointed in their decision, I’m not exactly mad at them. My anger is more directed at the circumstances that have allowed infant circumcision to become normalized and perpetuate in this country.

Q: What’s an “intactivist” or “intactivism”? A: Intactivism is a word for the anti-infant circumcision movement. It’s a portmanteau of “intact” and “activism.” Sure, it may sound a little silly, but it’s quicker to say/type than “anti-infant circumcision movement.”

Q: What’s the deal with the “intact” VS “uncut” terminology? A: Many intactivists prefer to refer to the uncircumcised penis as “intact,” because the word “uncircumcised” sort of normalizes circumcision, implying that circumcised is the default state. However, it’s been noted that some people are uncomfortable with using the word intact, and feel that it may be upsetting for happily circumcised people. That said, I use both “uncut” and “intact,” not favoring one over the other.

Q: Are there different styles of circumcision? A: Yes, the main difference is that circumcisions can be either loose or tight (or somewhere in between), referring to how mobile the remaining penile skin is, which I elaborate upon here. Other variations include how much (if any) of the frenulum is removed, how much (if any) inner foreskin is removed, where the scar line is placed and how prominent it is, and various other circumcision after-effects.

Q: Does circumcision have any effects on the partner in sex? A: Yes. The gliding motion that foreskin provides makes penetrative sex smoother and less abrasive, and many partners report they enjoy the sensation of the foreskin rolling back and forth inside them. Foreskin also helps to keep lubrication (natural or artificial) in, thus aiding against drying out. In general, many people prefer the sexual response of a partner who is not circumcised, and other sexual activities including oral sex and handjobs may have to be performed differently to optimize it for their partner’s circumcision status. I have tips for both of these (handjobs, blowjobs).

Q: How can I help educate others about circumcision? A: With individual people, it helps to at least take on a calm, non-accusatory attitude. More generally, two big ways are reblogging as much as possible on Tumblr, and if you want to go the extra mile, spread some awareness cards around. I answer this in more detail here.

Things that are not body positive and not cool:

-Making fun of penis size.

-Expressing disgust at somebody for being circumcised, or not circumcised.

-Insulting anybody for the size, shape, or symmetry of their labia.

-Shaming others for their pubic hair grooming preferences.

-Bringing people down based on ANY aspect of their genital appearance.

We have all our aesthetic preferences, yes, but it’s not okay to make anybody feel badly about their body!

Be kind to others, and keep in mind what a leap of faith someone is making when they show you their naked body. They’re letting you into a very personal, private, intimate part of them- be gentle!

Yes indeed, it was a MAJOR mistake for whatever company owns Tumblr (Yahoo I think. Yes??) turning Tumblr into a heavily censored website starting this past December. I’ve been using Tumblr for some 5+ years now. I use images of intact penis and sometimes of - sadly - FORCED-to-be-cut-at-birth penis in my educational and protesting work to help end the more than disgusting sex crime of NON-MEDICAL (yet always inflicted every day all over the US) infant circumcision, a religion-based, religion-blessed atrocity and fraud here in the sick, violent, religion-damaged US. When I try to use images of uncut penis, of cut penis sometimes, and even of a helpless, healthy baby boy being tortured and sexually mutilated in the US, some Tumblr person or maybe some Tumblr robot blocks those images!! I don’t understand though how others are able to post heavy duty porn and I can’t post my images of cut, intact, baby penis. Tell me how others are able to do their porn images postings.  Thanks

Tragically and senselessly, ~ 80% to perhaps or probably as much as 85% of US-born men were each FORCED at birth to have a permanently damaged, horribly surgically altered penis FOR LIFE. These cut-at-birth US-born men usually or often utter the ridiculous, worthless statements that their sex lives are “marvelous” and that they “just couldn’t stand any more pleasure” when, in fact, the sex lives of Americans, due to the sex crime inflicted on US-born men, are disastrous being so unnatural, so limited, so wronged. And all this mayhem, damage and sexual dysfunction due to anti-sexual-pleasures evil religion.

I’ve never been able to accept the fact that someone cut part of my penis off when I was a baby. The sheer monstrousness of it haunts every waking moment of my life. Sometimes I think I’m beginning to make some sort of adjustment to it, but then I see an unmutilated man in a magazine or shower and I become overwhelmed by uncontrollable feelings of outrage and disbelief that I was made the victim for life of something so sick. Sometimes I feel I’m at the edge of madness and just can’t handle it.

An explanation of what foreskin restoration is

Besides taking a stance against infant circumcision, the other main component of this blog is discussing my experience with foreskin restoration. I get a lot of questions about what this means, because after all, it’s not an extremely well-known process. That’s not to say it’s obscure- there are literally thousands of people restoring their foreskins. But overall, the existence of restoration is unknown to many. Here I’ll summarize what foreskin restoration entails.

First off, foreskin restoration typically does NOT refer to any type of surgery. Although there are surgical methods of foreskin restoration, the outcome is generally less-than-satisfactory, so not many people choose this option.

Rather, foreskin restoration is done completely by the person himself. It’s a method of tissue expansion in which one tugs/tensions the penile skin, in sessions over a period of time. This tension gradually encourages the development of new skin, until the point that the foreskin is essentially recreated. This is NOT just stretching the skin. Although some temporary stretch tends to occur, the process ultimately results in the development of completely new skin cells. These skin cells take on the properties of the cells they are expanded from. Thus, the end result of foreskin restoration tends to be closer to an “original” foreskin if some of the original foreskin is left over from the circumcision in the first place. But those who lost all of their original foreskin due to circumcision need not worry, restoration will still bring about a foreskin quite similar to the original.

The two main methods of foreskin restoration are manual restoration and restoring with a device. Manual restoration is simply using your hands. There are various tugging exercises you do, either in a couple of 20-minute daily sessions, or several shorter session spread throughout the day. You can also restore using a foreskin restoration device. Over ten of these devices exist, each working slightly differently, but all producing basically the same end result. Whichever device you choose, you wear it on the penis, and it tensions the skin for you. Typically these devices are worn for several hours a day, anywhere from about 4 to 10 hours is recommended. Some devices can be worn while sleeping, while other should only be worn during the day. You’re not limited to either a device or manual restoration- many including myself use both methods. Some even switch off between multiple devices. Although one needs to be dilligent in their routine, you do not need to actively restore every single day- you can take a day, maybe even a week off here and there.

Absolutely anyone with a circumcised penis can restore their foreskin. Although certain methods and devices are limited to men with some slack skin, a man with no slack still has options until he develops it.

Another aspect of restoration is retaining. When someone is far along enough that they can pull the skin over the glans, it is recommended they wear a retainer of sorts to keep the skin there even when they’re not actively restoring. This is not only for comfort, but also promotes glans sensitivity as well as helping to shape the developing foreskin.

A frequent question I get is “Does restoration hurt?” The answer is absolutely not. I will admit that many devices look intimaidating, and the idea of tugging on your penile skin generally just doesn’t sound pleasant. But the key the restoration is, you don’t tug to the point of pain. Just enough to feel tension. Manual restoration may sometimes feel a little strenuous (even then you should probably ease up a little), but NEVER painful. Devices should absolutely never hurt either. If you feel pain, you need to adjust the tension. Besides being painless, devices do not feel uncomfortable, either. A few devices do require a strap that runs down to the knee, and this may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but there are several devices that consist of nothing more than the part that goes on your penis, and these do not feel uncomfortable at all. Sometimes, I forget I’m even wearing my device.

The monetary price of foreskin restoration varies depending on your method/device. Manual restoration, of course, will cost nothing, being a hands-only method. If you use a device, it can coat you anywhere from maybe $10 if you make your own device, to around $50 for a modestly priced (but very effective) device, to about $150 if you go with the most expensive option.

The amount of time it takes to finish restoring depends on various factors, including how much skin was cut off in the first place, how much you want back, what method(s) you use, how well you stick to a routine, and just natural differences between people. A realistic time frame is about 4-6 years. However, some men have been lucky enough to finish in just 2, and others have been restoring for a decade.

The ultimate question: what does one stand to gain from restoring their foreskin? Well, once the glans has been covered consistently for awhile, it will shed its callous, and regain the natural sensitivity it is supposed to have. The same will happen for the inner portion of the foreskin the rests against the head. For those who lost the foreskin’s slackness as a result of circumcision, this mobility will be fully restored, leading to more comfortable and pleasurable sex and masturbation. The penis will generally feel more comfortable against clothing, since the glans is no longer rubbing up against underwear constantly. And of course, there’s obviously the emotional value of regaining something that was taken from you, as well.

What doesn’t get restored? Well, a restored foreskin is not quite as snug as an original, so unwanted retractions may occur more frequently. The frenulum, if removed, cannot be restored either. Even those who have a frenulum remnant have a harder time expanding that tissue. But despite the losses that are permanent, the benefits of restoration are great enough to justify the process. Men who were circumcised in adulthood and then restored their foreskins (in other words, those who have experienced all 3 states: intact, circumcised, and restored) typically report the following: if the sexual pleasure felt with an original foreskin can be rated as a 10, circumcised pleasure can be rated anywhere from a 1 to a 5, and restored pleasure a 7 to a 9.
