“Yeah it’s no biggie, she didn’t even buy anything. Old ladies…” Asri mumbled before grinning at the man before him. “Did you find all the plants that you wanted?”

He let out a small laugh at the mumble about old ladies, glad he hadn’t offended this man in any way. “I think so. For now, anyway. You’ve got a beautiful collection, though, so I’m sure I’ll be back at some point.”

“You don’t have to apologize… I’m not mad. Are you?”

“Am I mad? No. Not in any version of the word, I’d like to think. Though, I suppose if I were mentally mad, I wouldn’t really know it, would I?”

“My apologies. I didn’t mean to step in front.”

Nestor nodded and leaned back against the couch he sat on. “Yes well, good thing Ethan can handle a bit much. Obviously he has some sort of liking towards me.” The vampire joked, rubbing his teddy bear’s ears as he spoke. “No, she’s much like all the other wolves I’ve met. It takes a certain type of person to get turned, like with most things, I don’t take anything personally.” He said simply,a small shrug followed. “Interesting. Well that’s good. As long as she got whatever she needed.”

“It seems like he has more than a liking to you,” he shrugged with a small smile. He was still worried for Nestor, worried about the witches intentions, but he didn’t want to worry Nestor any more than he already worried himself. Not until he was given a reason to. For now, he was content to watch his friend be happy. He thought about what was said about it taking a certain type of person to get turned into the various creatures, but he wasn’t sure that was true. “I don’t know….vampires are all pretty varied. Why shouldn’t wolves be too?” It wasn’t like Rana had sought out being turned, or even wanted it in the first place.  “She did. When was the last time you were in the sun?” he asked curiously. “Were you ever able to be?” If Nestor had been born this way, he supposed it was possible that he’d never stood in it. Or maybe he had different rules about it.

Watching Toy Story on the beach during sunset sounded like the most cotton candy fluff she had ever been a part of, and she couldn’t even bring herself to be a dick about it or make fun of it. Her finger had healed within a minute, and she was back to pressing her face to his icy and bare chest. “We can,” she edged around the point effortlessly. If he outright ordered her to, she would, but if he was just going to gently hint at it she had no problem shutting him down and out.

He wanted to press the issue, but she was right. This was a special day. And he had a sinking feeling that he knew exactly why he wouldn’t like her running with Valentina. He didn’t have the stomach to hear it out loud quite yet. “Some other time,” he said, knowing that she wasn’t ready to say it. She didn’t need to anyway. It didn’t matter. She was his and he was hers and that was what was important. He pressed a long, soft kiss to her hair, breathing her scent in deeply as he echoed ‘mine’. “We should go swim. The water’s warm and no one can see what’s happening underneath it,” he said playfully.

“Of course. It’s childish, it’s brilliant, it fucks around without repercussions. It’s human.” Rana pulled her hand back to give the skin a chance to heal over, only allow him a bit so that he didn’t throw himself into discomfort. That primal feeling of the animal that paced inside and just under the surface was always there, and her mind she liked to picture it as an actual wolf just to give herself a nice visual. And right now the wolf had curled up happily, practically melted into a pile of tail wagging at the fiercely whispered mine. “Mine,” she echoed, tangling her fingers into his hair so she could bring him down for a kiss that only added to the scorching summer heat. “I know. I didn’t say no, I said not now. This is a special day.”

“Toy Story it is,” he said with a small smile, still confused as to how a movie about toys could bring about his humanity, but trusting Rana completely. A small whine sounded from his chest when she took her hand away, but he understood. He didn’t want to get sick and she needed to be able to heal without him acting like a leach. He kissed her back happily after she called him hers as well, not sure when the last time was that he’d actually been somebody’s. He liked the idea of being Rana’s, and even more the idea of Rana being his. Still, the comments about being with her maker during the moon made him uneasy. “It’s a special day, but we can still talk,” he pointed out.

“Let’s do it, then. I’ll drag out the humanity in you.” Not that Jasper wasn’t one of the most humane creatures she’d ever met, but he was awful with the normal everyday mundane details of being a human, pop culture included. Rana wasn’t too worried about labels, so she shrugged, a little too distracted by the sight of him bringing her finger up to his mouth, staining it red. Why was that sight so much hotter than it should be? “I want to be yours. And I am. That’s all that matters.” She shook her head at his question, trying to let it pass without an answer. Not today, not on their sun day. He didn’t need to know about broken bones, or the fever pitch intensity of a fight, of the animalistic sex in abandoned caves or the crash and burn of such a prolonged high of adrenaline. “Not today. Just run away with me.”

“A movie about toys will bring out my humanity?” he asked, clearly amused by the thought of it. Either way, it seemed fun, and if Rana was okay with it, then he wanted to do it. Her blood tasted the same way it had the last time, not wonderful but still her and even if it upset his stomach slightly, it wasn’t enough to really make him sick. But it was enough to get her pumping through him and he relished in the idea of that, of them becoming one in more ways than one. “Mine,” he commented softly in response to her, mesmerized by the idea of that. “And I’m yours,” he said honestly, completely prepared to give his entire self to her. But then she was shaking her head at his question and he frowned, not really wanting to know why she wouldn’t answer it but needing to. “Rana.....you can tell me anything, you know,” he said softly, gently, wanting her to open up to him about this. He didn’t want secrets between them. He had too many of them to last a life time.

“Any of them?” Her tone was colored with disbelief as she craned her neck up to face him. “You need to see all of them. Except I’ll be skipping number three. I’m not gonna be the first one to cry in this….whatever we are.” Her weight shifted happily against him when he pulled her closer, jerking her hand a little too quickly from a viscous piece of glass hidden in the sand. The sting of pain barely registered, just more warmth and sensation to add to the list, and she lifted the blood pad of her thumb to her mouth. The idea of running felt cowardly, but also freeing. It was a big world and she had seen hardly any of it. “Soon? Before the next full moon. I…It’s not smart for me to run with her again. You wouldn’t like it.”

“I don’t really watch movies,” he admitted. He’d seen a few, but it wasn’t something he went out of his way to do. He raised an amused brow when she tried to label them and failed and really, that only brought up a larger point. Because he didn’t know what they were either. It had been too long since he’d been involved enough with a person to worry about labels and titles, and even then, the labels he’d worried about were certainly different than the ones being used by the current generation. “We can be whatever you want us to be,” he settled on, not wanting to push anything. The second her hand hit the glass he smelled it, and he looked quickly to see what she did. As she brought her hand to her mouth, he gently took her hand in his, pulling it to his mouth instead. It wasn’t the best tasting blood, but it was hers, and he hated seeing her hurt if even for a minute. When she finally pulled her hand away, he looked at her questioningly, wondering what was so bad about running with another wolf. “Why wouldn’t I like it?”

Giving him what he wanted on his only day in the sun for the foreseeable future hadn’t even been a question. If he said he wanted to walk across hot lava repeatedly, she’d be okay with it. Her free hand roved through the hot sand, absorbing even more warmth from the beach with a small sigh. “What movie? If it’s awful I’ll set up my phone very close and we can watch our own.” Now that she had a taste for movement and new places, she was happy to explore more of them. It also helped that she wasn’t eager for more runins with Valentina. The New Moon had been….cathartic, familiar, frustrating, lovely and hell all at the same time. She didn’t want to need the other wolf. She wanted to be stronger than her sway. “Nowhere this deep into the South ever again, at least not in the States. Chicago, maybe. Spain. Japan. Somewhere new.”

“I think they said it’s Toy Story. I’ve never seen it. Is it any good?” he asked, completely willing to simply leave once the sun was down to do more interesting things. She’d already sacrificed a day for him, he wasn’t going to ask her to go above and beyond. He pulled her a little closer, absorbing the heat from the sand and the sun, but more importantly her. He had a feeling there was already a ticking clock above their heads. She was young and a little wild and he fully expected to wake up one day to her being gone for good. But he’d take what time he could get happily. And he’d very willingly take on the idea of her moving with him. “We can go wherever you’d like,” he said honestly, knowing he’d already seen most of the world. It was time she got to as well. “Say the word and we can be there.” He had enough money and resources to make whatever move she wanted happen.

I don’t like sand,” she offered up, like it was the most logical explanation in the world. If it was something that made him happy and he wouldn’t burn up, she would have gladly done it ever day. All of her favorite memories as of late featured him. Her throat was suddenly thick at the realization, but she kept her eyes shut tight so she didn’t embarrass herself. It was bad enough that she was constantly waiting for Valentina to kill him, she didn’t need to add over commitment to the list too. “Me too. Which is why lately, I’ve been thinking. If you ever decide you want to leave? Say the word. I’ll follow you.”

He laughed lightly at her explanation, not bothering to question it further than that. “Well thank you for putting up with it today,” he said honestly, knowing this hadn’t been her first choice but grateful that she’d gone along with it anyway. “If you don’t mind a little extra, they’re doing a movie on the beach after sunset. And then I can take you home and thoroughly make sure to wash all of the sand off of you.” He tried not to wince when she said her memories were important, knowing that she’d given one up for him to have this opportunity. He tried to take solace in the fact that they were making a new one instead. He was surprised to hear that she’d go with him, knowing she’d come here for a pack and at least gotten Valentina back out of it. He wouldn’t ask her to leave that. “Where would you want to go?” he asked curiously.

“Nice to meet you, i guess i have to be careful then,” Elliot said knowing that this town was different from all the places he have been to and that he did have to be careful and watch his back, “have you lived here long?”

“It would be smart to be,” he said. Though if this stranger decided not to be careful, it wasn’t like he hadn’t done his part in warning him. “I’ve been here a few months, now. People seem to be frequently pouring into this town these days.”

Rana wasn’t used to feeling so constantly peaceful, but it was nice. The cycle of her pale skin burning and instantly healing in the sun was also a foreign sensation that she didn’t hate. “It’s bizarre that you don’t have any prized possessions. Your apartment looks like a page out of Minimalist magazine.

“How do you not do this every day?” he asked, thoroughly enjoying the heat from the sun and the sound of the water. Even the sand underneath them felt perfect and he’d never be able to thank Karana enough for giving this gift to him. “I have a few items, but I keep them safely in storage. In the end, though, objects are objects. I much prefer my memories.” Like this one. He was sure this memory would be his most prized possession for centuries to come.

“Thanks a lot and why not, is the town dangerous or something at night?” Elliot asked with a grin on his face, “I love night time because it is peaceful and the perfect time to go for a walk. I am Elliot Matthews by the way”

“There are some unsavory characters that roam at night, yes,” he said honestly, always fearing for the new humans in town who seemed ignorant to that fact. “It’s a pleasure, Elliot. I’m Jasper.”

“Sorry, yes i was” said Elliot in a clear voice as he looked at the paper with directions in his hands before looking at the man, “Do you know where University of Eastland is?”

“Oh, right. Sure, man. If you follow this street down about ten blocks and take a right, it’ll eventually be on your left. You probably shouldn’t be out here so late, though.”

Luckily she didn’t break the skin, so instead of the sickening taste of his blood she got nothing but warm flesh. “You get attached to everything. it seems inevitable.” Her eyes closed against the sun again, nestling further into the crook of his shoulder. “What about cars? Those don’t die so quickly.”

As she curled closer against him, his arm tightened around her slightly and he pressed a kiss to the top of her head. He wished he could hold on to this moment for eternity - though he had a feeling he’d never really be able to forget it. “Too much pollution when I’m perfectly capable of getting around on my own.”

Instead of responding, Rana twisted in his arms until she could sink her teeth lightly into his bicep. The sunshine and heat made her lazy, or she would have summoned a better response. “Why no animals?”

He let out a small ‘ow’ when she bit him, more surprised by the action than anything, before laughing lightly at it. “I move around a lot - seems unfair to them. Besides, they die quicker than people and it gets exhausting to sit through. I get too attached,” he said, tracing his fingers idly down one of her arms.
